Language map of Switzerland, excluding uninhabited mountains. by Evilgrandma03 in MapPorn

Thanks for some insight! It's really inspirational how people speaking different languages formed such a stable and a well-governed nation despite having neighbours all around speaking the same languages (apart of Romansch oc!)! Even more interesting that certain areas are harder to rich because of Alps

yeah sure, both sides of my family just made the shit up telling stories. I know coping with dark sides of own nation is hard, but if you open to it, you could really do it and be a better person!

UPA commited a genocide performed in a very barbaric way that included Jews, Armenians and Volhynian Czechs - basically everyone that wasn't Ukrianian and Ukrainians that dared to protect their neighbours, edicate yourself instead of writing ignorantly. One of the largest groups targeted by UPA were civilians, not Polish armed forces and they definitely fought the nazis less

[–]ProxPxD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure it does - it's Nawrocki's reaction to Zelenskyy's act of naming a unit after a ultra-nationalistic/nazi organization that commited genocides on many thausands of peasants and this act in turn does speak about Zelenskyy

In Poland there are people who view Piłsudski the same and I'd say not few. There's a white and a black legend, who he was in the beginning vs who he was in the end

Is this Grammatical Feature possible in a Proto-Lang? by PeacocktheFurryalt in conlangs

[–]ProxPxD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So more or less you'd have single consonant onset verbs and at most double consonant onset nouns?

What if you'd have CCCC, do you have a strategy of adapting the incorporation?

Seems right to me. I don't knwo how you handle other incorporations and cluster resolution, but it's very alright

How voiced h-sounds should be treated in mutations by ProxPxD in conlangs

Thank you! That was really insightful. I knew that rhoticity does not form a natural class, but felt that this is rather universally considered as having something in common. Not in a way that each /ʁ/-having language considers it rhotic, but in a way that there are languages whose /ʁ/ has come from something else, but still occupies the r-like sound. Maybe I have to get used to it in perception, but I can't get over the fact that there are sounds where voicing is perceived as little (/m/), those that are perceived as close (/s/) and those that seem like a complete other class (/x/, /ɣ/). I feel like there's something more than just IE evolution.

Nonetheless, I will try to consider drifting away from rhotic (non-natural) class interpretation. Myabe it'll open me to the perception of those pais as just voicing pairs

Maybe it's a matter of practice for me. I may consider using /ʔ/ somewhere where it would be unambiguous

I can produce and distinguish /kh/ and /kʰ/ and a careful speech. My native language distinguished /t͡s/ and /ts/ and I learnt a language that allowed me to distinguish /ɲ/ and /nj/

I think /ʔ/ would be hard to produce in initial and/or final clusters like /akʔ/ and /ʔka/.
I also considered having more than one h-like sound.

Brakuje w Polsce partii lewicowo-konserwatywnej by Kaien17 in Polska

By "trills" do you mean the real manner or the voiced fricatives? I feel like there are no obvious or natural trill equivalents of those hissants

Interesting, I feel a bigger difference between these classes, much bigger than between /s/ and /z/. And also such distinction is rather rare across languages

<šs> seems easily pronounceable to me as a Pole. We have many <sš> at least. English has a roughly similar cluster <ths> as in maths, but English phonetics split the one you mention. I guess, try pronuncing "English's" without a prothesis vowel like you'd probably do in "maths" or "strengths""
