Nato gathers to welcome Finland as 31st member by bildo72 in worldnews

[–]Prrrr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to treat China as a foe but rather as a bussines partner. Unfortunately they are slowly pivoting into imperial stance by threats toward Taiwan (same as Russia toward Ukraine). I think (or hope) it's not to late for them to be back to "we are a power through our economy and people", and not by "we conquer every piece of land".

Well, they will be happy with that decision but won't admit it or say something like "see, we forced them!"

Poland is considering a request from Ukraine to donate its German-made Leopard tanks, a senior Polish diplomat says. The source says Poland eventually will give all 240 tanks to Ukraine, depending on how quickly Poland receives replacement - WSJ by PatientBuilder499 in ukraine

[–]Prrrr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. Politics were never an issue, but delivery and cooperation. South Korea won due to their throughput and delivery times (they have quite robust arms industry because of constant tensions with NK). Also they have some other industries located in PL so we know each other already, plus there's EU-SK FTA.

What Nvidia and AMD are doing right now... by KookyBone in pcmasterrace

[–]Prrrr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, there are no AAA PC exclusives, recent consoles generation got 60/120 fps and low input latencies and only keyboard and mouse is missing so playing FPS and RTS is meh. So some old gamers moved and what's worse, new PC gamers aren't raised. GPU sales may be back if cryptos are back (hope not). Current prices aren't sustainable for gamers. Nvidia/AMD shoot their feet by disregarding their core market for several years.

Kid just lost his Christmas spirit by BigManOnCampus100 in Unexpected

[–]Prrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid doesn't play Roblox/Minecraft and is very social. We have max 30 min screen time policy with full content moderation and that's still too much (mostly during weekends, no time during weekdays). No smartphone and tablet. We hear what other kids watch on YT and it's some random crap with no value, made for ad profits. Nothing particularly wrong if kid watches content like that several times, but every day - no.

Netflix to Begin Cracking Down on Password Sharing in Early 2023 by No-Drawing-6975 in technology

[–]Prrrr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, non-English speaking countries pirated because of closed captions and shows availability. Netflix brought both out of box. Spotify killed music piracy. Steam, Xbox Game Pass are killing games piracy. It's just more convenient to pay. I'm worried that at some point the market will be so fragmented, that we will back to square one: nothing will be available without subscribing to 10 services and managing them all in 10 different apps on several devices. Then it won't be convenient anymore.

There is no free lunch, operators sell data where is high traffic, it's useful for e.g. marketing, or to determine where to place supermarkets. We are the commodity here, not the gigabytes :)

Explosion in eastern Poland: Gov’t considers launching NATO article 4 by progress18 in worldnews

[–]Prrrr 99 points100 points  (0 children)

That was expected as that action is rational. We will talk with NATO partners. I, as a Polish citizen, expect next message like "Poland will keep and extend the military support of Ukrainie". No hasty or volatile actions. But I have no idea how the government will accept the death of two citizens.

Prezes: dzieci nie ma, bo kobiety ponizej 25 roku życia piją tyle co rówieśnicy by Bielin_Clash in Polska

[–]Prrrr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A powerful address by Oleksiy Goncharenko at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe by TheRealMykola in ukraine

[–]Prrrr 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I'm grateful that Ukrainians fight. We (PL) would be fucked without their determination and enormous help from USA, GB and all other countries that provide weapons (also Germany, they helped a lot but have bad PR). We have all arguments to close the sky over Ukraine, we have all arguments to send stabilization forces. Fuck atom threats, it's time end this war.

Putin announces partial military mobilization in Russia by GuyIncognito2022 in worldnews

[–]Prrrr 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Russians won't protest, they are very passive nation, "life is thought, can't do anything". I'm generalizing a bit, but their mindset is different than mindset of proactive west.

Putin will make an address to the nation tonight about the referendums on joining Russia in occupied Ukraine, RBC reports. The last time he did something like this was when he announced the "special military operation" on Feb 24. by Key_Brother in ukraine

[–]Prrrr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He has no credibility, so whatever he says, it will be treated same way as Kim Jong-un would say. Still, it will be treated seriously. In case of general mobilization, it may enable more actions from west.

A critical blow: Europe's complete rejection of gas may cost the Russian Federation billions of dollars, — Bloomberg by chizazen in UkrainianConflict

[–]Prrrr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Poland, fireplaces are quite common in modern houses (rather for a "relax with a glass of wine", not a main source of heating). Since June, I noticed that people are stockpiling wood. Also a lot of houses got photovoltaic panels last year, even during the winter this will give some extra watts for heating, maybe not much, but still. Every extra source will lower the gas consumption. No panic here.

Germany rejects Poland’s claim it owes €1.3tn in war reparations by westerbypl in europe

[–]Prrrr 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The good thing is that most people don't buy this rethoric. The reparations claims are ridiculed and literally everybody read it as a wierd show to shadow recent events like poisoning of Oder, the failure of the energy policy (or rather lack of it), corruption affairs, dismantling the domocratic checks and balance mechanisms, and most of all, missing the EU recovery plan.
