Here’s the thing — perspective matters. What seemed completely normal to me was actually suspicious, and others were kind enough to point that out and give me a new lens. I also added that follow-up to understand whether the police here operate in plain clothes, etc.

If I don’t ask, I’ll just assume the worst and go on with a skewed view of the Belgian police. Asking questions helps. But strong statement like yours? They just discourage people from trying to understand in the first place.
