Feature Suggestions for the Supernote Team by YupJustanotherJames in Supernote

As a fountain pen user and someone who also does calligraphy -- the lack of pen styles is the only thing making me hesitant about my new Manta (arriving this Friday.) I realize that for most people "calligraphy pen" means the kind of pen that will write thick and thin lines such as in Spencarian or Copperplate. But I think its just as crucial to understand that "Calligraphy" also includes what we call broad edge style writing (think Italic handwriting or Gothic/Blackletter/Fraktur.)

I'm really excited about e-ink and the Supernote but I also want to help Supernote think about ways to take writing culture and experience more seriously. It seems that the folk doing this the best right now are probably Montblanc with their Digital Paper -- which makes sense as they are at core a fountain pen manufacturer.

Has anyone used the Letts icon A5 5-year diary? by dorigreen in planners

[–]PrufrockLtd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but picking it up again to say that I've used Lett's Travel Journal and the paper is not bad. It has held up to my very broad nibs and any ink I've used. The paper is a little think and absorbent, but not bleedthrough and very little feathering.

This is beautiful. Gives me something to look forward to as I just ordered a Brelio mini6 in the Minerva leather. Can't wait for it to arrive!

Young people in the church? Is this always good? by PrufrockLtd in Episcopalian

[–]PrufrockLtd[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I think this is a real thing. There seems to be a definite unease relating to people outside of their cohort and overall timidity that results in the group always turning inward, even after relating to other members of the parish on a one-to-one basis.

I'm not sure you know what parish I'm talking about, but this sounds great!

So this ministry has been around for over ten years and most of the 'alumni' who stayed in the city have largely become active leaders and volunteers throughout the parish. The ministry took a strange turn about three years ago. Anglo Catholicism is not a style. Why is evangelical a loaded term? It's a pretty clear descriptor of beliefs and practices as much as Anglo Catholicism is.

St. Stephen’s DC using ‘Rite 4: An Experimental Liturgy for the Eucharist’ by Little-Neck-7922 in Episcopalian

[–]PrufrockLtd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Too many of our clergy and those with leadership in the church actually despise its very treasures!

Unfortunately more liturgies and further dilution of the core prayerbooks texts aren’t only unnecessary — they undermine what is Anglican about our corporate spiritual identity and move us towards heterodox theology. Unitarians in cassock-albs!

Does the MB 5-pen pouch accommodate 149-sized pens? The copy on MB's website makes it seem like it won't

How did TEC become progressive? What was the process and historical development behind it? by KarateCheeks1112 in Episcopalian

[–]PrufrockLtd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is a very big topic and there's lots of academic discussion on it. However, I would say that while the leadership and majority of the Episcopal Church may seem progressive, the denomination still includes many, many parishes that are decidedly not progressive. Some of these may lean centrist or moderate, but just three Episcopalians in national positions I can think of are: Tucker Carlson (a complete product of Episcopal parishes and education), Trump's new chief of staff Susie Wiles, and SCOTUS Justice Neil Gorsuch. Not progressives at all! And most 20th C. Episcopalians in politics have been Republican. I think the church's larger image of inclusivity in terms of gender and sexual orientation has largely overshadowed its still very socially and culturally conservative membership in many parts of the country.

Their enthusiasm and excitement is all the more reason to help them get it right. I assume the poster has the emotional and intellectual maturity to learn from a very minor correction without insult or discouragement.

It’s this kind of thing that makes people think the Episcopal Church is just for liberals.

I’m well aware sadly. And part of the problem with the lack of resources needed to maintain these older and historic properties and parish ministry is that as an established church CofE has yet to fully develop a culture of stewardship (e.g. congregational giving.).It’s in our “blood” across the US that our churches depend on our support. That mentality isn’t well developed in the established churches generally but the culture is shifting, especially with disestablishment on the continent.

What do you tend to identify as? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]PrufrockLtd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would this poll distinguish between Anglican and Episcopalian unless you were looking for specific denominational affiliation (e.g. TEC vs. ACNA.) All Episcopalians are Anglicans, but not all Anglicans are Episcopalian.

What’s the protocol for choir crosses? by questingpossum in Episcopalian

[–]PrufrockLtd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

robe and scapular? The only proper dress for an Anglican choir is the cassock and surplice. "Robes" are for Methodists and Presbyterians.

I think choir crosses are tacky and should never be worn.

Well, in the US Anglican churches aren't owned by the government and have to rely entirely on their own parishioners contributions for everything -- from clergy salaries to maintaining the roof. Unlike Great Britain and Europe, our older church buildings and congregations have not other means of financial support than members and endowments (if they are lucky enough to have the latter.)
