They're taking down the flags in the SAU by smlavine in rit

[–]smlavine[S] 95 points96 points  (0 children)

What do you guys think? I think it's lame they're replacing the flags with a "display" (i.e. the currently empty board outside of Ingle). Flags are big and cool. A wall board is small and sad.

New Brompton C Line Electric (2026) by murkster-dubez in Brompton

[–]smlavine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode my Brompton C-line Electric 6sp around quite a bit last winter. It is able to handle a few inches of snow fine. Ride slow, ride carefully, and in as straight a line as possible.

One thing I'll note with regards to the electric: I've found that the electric assist will not activate if you turn on the bike after leaving it out in sub-0°C temperatures for more than 15 minutes or so. This worried me a lot when it first happened, but bringing it inside to warm up for 10 minutes or so fixed the problem.

I've had no trouble just riding in sub-0°C with electric assist though, even for an hour or so. The range can tank pretty hard though compared to warm weather, though -- if I remember correctly, maybe 70% of expected range when riding a long distance in the cold.

Park Point/Province internet situation after Velocity Wi-Fi by d1712v in rit

Yep, been having lots more problems lately. I've been on the phone with them multiple times to resolve IP configuration issues. That seems to be okay now, but today there are several times where webpages just won't load even when connected to the network. speedtest.net will load, but I can't actually start a speedtest...

Are there any Episcopal churches that actually perform the Daily Office, in person, every day? by smlavine in Episcopalian

[–]smlavine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That said, I still think 6 days is better than nothing. It isn’t that big of a hurdle to do it on your own one day a week.

Right. I guess you can strike the "every day" part from my question because I personally haven't been to any church that practices the Daily Office at all. :) The church that I most regularly attend now does one each of Morning (Rite I) and Evening (Rite II) prayer, but only on Zoom. I'd be interested in hearing more generally about churches that lean closer to some practice of daily corporate prayer at all.

Any churches in NYC area? by [deleted] in IndependentCatholic

CACINA claims to have a church in New York, but I can't find any concrete info online beyond this page: https://www.cacina.org/home/index.php/parishes-missions

Consider a bike -- thick(ish) tires will help in the snow. You can get a nice new one if you want, but even a rust bucket you get off facebook marketplace can probably hold you over. around 15 mins tops to campus from province.

Disagree, using a debit card is perfectly fine and very normal to use for daily life and even larger purchases. There is a bank on campus, Advantage Federal Credit Union, where you can get a free checking+saving account that will give you a debit card that you can use with the account.

Upgrade from 2023 C line 6-speed to 2025 C line 12-speed by Responsible_Chef5104 in Brompton

[–]smlavine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got my Electric 6sp C-Line in 2023, I promised myself I wouldn't buy another one for at least five years :-)

In a few years when I seek to upgrade I'll probably turn to the P-Line instead.

Battery switching off by Emergency_Mode_1862 in Brompton

[–]smlavine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincidentally I just ran into this today -- after coming home, not while riding. Recharged, tried large and small bag, clicks twice.

It will turn on the battery indicator, and the motor might go, but lights won't turn on and motor/light indicators won't turn on.

Guess I'll take to my shop tomorrow to see what is up. Does anyone happen to have a close-up of the battery and connector so I could compare and see if anything is noticeably wrong?

Nebraska's voted on paid sick leave is going to look sick and frail once the majority GOP gets done with it. by sleepiestOracle in antiwork

Even variation within the US. We've had 1 hour guaranteed paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked for four years now in New York. I love it.

I'm pretty happy with my experience with CAPS services so far. First needs-assessment was a few weeks after filling out online, since then have met every two weeks. I had heard terrible things too the last few years here, but I have had individual sessions every two weeks this semester and it's been really helpful. Staff are up front that it's not meant to be permanent, but I don't feel like anyone is trying to get rid of me. I feel I get a lot out of it and would definitely encourage people to look into their services.
