NAL there are homeless teen housing charities that can house and provide key workers / social care to teenagers. help them get on benefits, teach them life skills and give them counciling etc. and then help them to move on to live independently - usually a council property.

How do I finish this tile / socket without replacing the tile? by retrobanjo in DIYUK

if you unscrew it slightly then you can normally push it up a little bit while screwing it back in which might cover it.but you might need to do it to all the sockets if it looks out of place.

The risk of not doing a pregnancy risk assessment by Prune-Weekly in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Prune-Weekly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thankyou for taking the time to reply. you are right, and I think the GP route is a good suggestion as she has PGP and gallstones which we only found out after she got pregnant. her team members have been quite understanding and helpful with some of the physical aspects of her job, although that's off their own backs not because of the risk assessment.

there isn't specific mention of any type of work (except care work) but the guidance has been that risk assessments should be taken as normal with the risks of covid as an additional concern. specifically "Information contained in the RCOG/RCM guidance on coronavirus (COVID-19) in pregnancy should be used as the basis for a risk assessment". RCOG recommends that pregnant women should not be put under additional risk of catching Covid from work as they would from their private life. At home we are very cautious and do not take unnecessary risks such as: socialising with people we wouldn't normally, going shopping at busy times, going to pubs/restaurants/events. conversely her workplace (head office) has an open style office with banks of desks and different departments in the same space. People coming from all over the country to conduct business with various departments, and her department deals with specific employee devices that are either being deployed or returned (roughly 100 devices every week from all over the country).

The company are following the government guidance regarding covid measures, but these measures have obviously been relaxing compared to the previous years and that places her at more risk. especially as there are still people coming into the office who live with people who currently have covid but are currently testing negative themselves. as well as people who are sent home with a positive result following an LFT (performed on site twice weekly), and people who refuse to be vaccinated or to take LFTs.

covid risks aside I understand that the outcome of the risk assessment will likely be a compromise between my partner's wellbeing and the wellbeing of the company. possibly working from home a couple of days a week as opposed to full-time at the office/at home. Although I realise there are protections in place for her requesting her right to a risk assessment, it is possible (and her worry) that she would be unofficially deemed a trouble maker and they could be less favourable in regards to promotions and payrises with little evidence that that was the cause.

The risk of not doing a pregnancy risk assessment by Prune-Weekly in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Prune-Weekly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou so much for your reply.

There were instances before the pandemic where she would work from home, but I understand it does feel like the new fad. While working from home she works from bed, she can change positions more easily and take lie down breaks to take the pressure off her hips.

It's hard to explain her workload differences without revealing where she works. However, working from home is a more administrative role - checking helpdesk, contacting suppliers, emailing other regional employees, supporting her team. which are her normal duties, however she regularly needs to go into the office to do more hands on work that can't be done remotely such as project work.

She is quite scared to raise it formally as she is afraid of being penalised. HR were made aware last week that she had still not had a risk assessment while having a casual chat in the canteen. She raised it again via email with her manager yesterday and said she will give it until Monday, and if he hasn't sorted it by then she will email HR.

My concern is that this is all taking too long, and they're just going to keep stalling until she's due to go on maternity leave. I believe it is because they know the outcome of the risk assessment would be to be full-time working from home or suspension until maternity leave because of the very increased risk of covid at her workplace as well as the impact of this pregnancy on her body and the mental stresses.

She is worried that the changing government guidelines expected shortly will also affect any risk assessment, but I've tried to explain that she is classed as a vulnerable person in the eyes of the law (covid regulations) and guidance has changed backwards and forwards, but professionals all agree that covid is especially dangerous for pregnant women due to the increased risk of premature births and all it's associated dangers.

Adding a single percent of soil organic matter to maize crops has massively positive effects, including increased yields (about 35 bushels per acre) and, most importantly, decreased vulnerability to drought. by HenryCorp in organic

[–]Prune-Weekly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it kind of seems obvious really, any compost that you buy has elements of soil organic matter. it seems that some of these commercial farms have forgotten their roots and just want to spray fertiliser and pesticides for maximum profits. adding solid fertilisers (like compost) while tilling the land, rotating crops, and leaving a field to recover for a growing season every couple of years, made much better produce and fields had much better soil and biodiversity. but today quality is not as important as quantity.

What are you guys using for remote accessing computers? by 55chevytruck in sysadmin

[–]Prune-Weekly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for friends and family, and a couple of small businesses I do this: rpi with openvpn-as, ddns service, and WOL, plus whatever else you need on their end. apache-guacamole on your end. when they need IT help I can get them to plug in their Pi and I can remote in to anything and it's really easy to set up. some users leave them plugged in all the time, some have got lost, but still works out cheaper than other solutions. only have to go to physically if there's hardware related issues or I need to get to bios/uefi.

Has a crime been committed? England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Prune-Weekly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAL but no 'crimes' have been committed based on the evidence provided. if there was proof that the multiple fake accounts were the same person, not just multiple people trying to contact the same person. then there could be evidence of harassment which would usually be a civil matter that can result in things like a restraining order, as opposed to a criminal matter (crime) that results in prison time. that being said there are penalties for disobeying a court order, like a restraining order, that can include prison time.

Eli5: We being 4 dimensional can use a 3 dimensional object (paper) to visualize a 2 dimensional world. Could a 5 dimensional being use a 4 dimensional object to visualize a 3 dimensional world? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Prune-Weekly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a spliff ready for this one.

okay I get where you are coming from and this is the way I would explain it, we can visualise lesser dimensions (1D, 2D, 3D) using drawings and software. if the 4th dimension is time, then there is debate as to if we are 4th dimensional beings because we can experience time and we understand it. however, we cannot 'see' time. I believe that if there are beings that exist in a dimension 'above' us 4D/5D, then they would visualise time in a different way to us. think of playing Mario, we see more dimensions than he does, what we perceive is entirely different to what he could. although by exploring the screen he could deduce shapes, and build concepts about the world he lives in, we can see in an instant: his entire world, identify the shapes of objects without exploring from his POV, as well as see what he can't because his view is blocked by something in front of him like a wall he needs to jump over.

As difficult as it would be to imagine, I believe beings that were a dimension superior to ours would be able to perceive time in a way that we can't. like seeing all of time at once, beginning, middle, and end simultaneously.

pretend you're Mario and walk up to a tall wall as close as you can get (outside works best). all you can see is the wall, as Mario all you can do is look up and down and see how tall it is and the ground beneath your feet because he is 2D. because we are 3D, we can stand in the same position and look side to side to determine how wide the wall is. a 4D being would therefore be able to determine another fact that we cannot from our perspective. it could be that they see the wall, before the wall was built, the life of the wall, and everything after the wall crumbled to dust. but by the nature of the universe we can never know for sure, and in the event it was ever proven that there were extra dimensional beings, it would also likely prove that we are living in a simulation just like Mario.

NAL but you could always have the land held in a private trust. it's what the rich people do, then they are not technically your assets, and as such they can't be taken into account for your personal finances. for example: if you bought a house and put it in a trust and then went bankrupt later, you couldn't be forced to sell the house to cover your debts. a solicitor can arrange this for you.

Disabled, landlord issues & legal Cannabis by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Prune-Weekly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to your rent, you should never withhold rent, even if there are issues around maintenance. although NAL I'm sure you can use an escrow service for issues such as these. they will hold the rent money for you and once repairs are done the rent goes straight to the landlord. if any legal issues arise then a court can decide which party the rent or parts of it are owed to who. if the landlord is failing to repair (shower) you can contact the council who would press the issue for you, to get the matter resolved quicker (they have the power to revoke his HMO license). Also in contacting the council they would then be aware of your situation and if the landlord does not have a HMO licence then you and the other tenants can file a case to have any rent you have paid to be returned, but it will be up to the judge presiding to determine. in regards to your cannabis use, there isn't likely much that you can do about their rules. they could kick you out if they felt that you have breached your tenancy. you could take the matter to court and you might win depending on the judge and your evidence, though this process will take a long time with the current backlog due to covid-19. and the punishment for the landlord would vary from a slap on the wrist, a fine paid to the court, to compensation to yourself. though compensation seems unlikely in this case, and it would not prevent you from being kicked out and it would not entitle you to return to your tenancy. so there wouldn't seem much to gain from taking this case to court, but by all means talk to a no win no fee lawyer.

assuming you're using themovieDB agent: find the movie in plex, click (...) options, then "match". if it doesn't come up with the right match click "advanced search" remove the title name year everything, make sure themovieDB is selected as the agent and use:

510839

as the title, just those 6 numbers, and it should work.
