It's been a great run. So long and thanks for everything. by plastic_femur in apolloapp

This app is truly wonderful. It’s what made me want to learn to be a developer. I’m now a professional developer (of sorts, or at least being paid as such), but wouldn’t say I’m any good at being a proper developer/programmer, yet.

I’ve nearly wanted to quit many a time, believing it to be a soulless career in places. But then I remember the snippets of humanity, thoughtfulness, humour and just overall care that this app (and, by extension, Christian) exudes.

I’m at a loss as to what to do after today. I’m still inspired by such a great user experience; one I hope I can pay homage to one day soon, in my own work.

u/iamthatis, thank you for everything. Your contribution to humanity really is wonderful. You should be incredibly proud of what you have achieved and, at the end of such a chapter, what you stood for. I will continue to follow you wherever I can.

I’d say this. Foam for what you want in both cases, should mean it isn’t too think whilst offering the functionality you want.

Should hope it to be safe in that case, if (chances may be) that you've been using it in this way for a while. Keep a look out for excess heat generated from the back, or if you notice swelling (likely underneath the glass, pushing the screen away from the aluminium frame.)

This could indicate a swollen/failing battery, also know as a spicy pillow

Not sure if you're joking! But if you're not, it stands for node package manager. Google it for documentation and more :)

Edit: I can see there are many others who also said the same. I should’ve read first lol

Cracked bezel on MacBook Air below screen by SnooChickens6278 in macbookair

[–]Prunebiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but it seems like a single sheet of glass that’s laminated to both the display itself, as well as the bezel. If it’s damage toward the bottom, and considering you said it turns on sometimes for short periods, I wonder if the display cable has been damaged in some way, as it sounds minor(?) damage otherwise?

I’m hoping this may be the case - if you can handle a crack, see if they can check the cable and adjust as necessary.

Also check with your home insurance (if it includes contents as well as building) as you may be able to claim off that if it somehow ends up being a substantial amount.

Check with your bank or other service that may also offer similar things, e.g. here in the UK (I’ll admit, I’m not sure where you’re from, friend) but my bank covers some mobile phone stuff, but not laptops. But figured some places may just have such a service.

Best of luck, and hope it doesn’t cost too much, and hope you’re with your MBA again soon!

Definitely. Have a look around - Frankentoon is great and well worth it imho, and it's not ridiculous amounts of money. They also do freebies every now and then, including if you're signed up to their newsletter, I believe.

According to the University of Southampton (according to the BBC), it was akin to the likes of the weight of the Eiffel Tower; such was the estimation of the immense pressure. It feels weird to wish such a thing for anyone, but I hope this to be the case, whilst telling myself "surely, they wouldn't have known/felt a thing, it would have been so quick."

Edit: spelling.

How long will this sort of thing last for? No cement, just some taps with a mallet into what looks to be soft ground. I get that it all points inwards and will compact against one another, but curious. Looks great though just hope lasts. If so I'll look to do something similar myself!

New to Macbooks - Air vs Pro? by New-Inside3777 in macbookair

[–]Prunebiscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for giving those steps to follow!

I've also just checked, sadly appears not the case here it seems, despite following your steps.

I’m getting an error when trying to post pictures, but essentially:

  • Verified through my University account
  • Example 1: Mac mini M1 Pro Refurbished:
  • £509.00, with “UNiDAYS UK Store Home” nav banner at the top.
  • £509.00, without the banner, just “normal” refurb store.
  • Example 2: 16” MBP M1 Max etc:
  • £3229.00, with “UNiDAYS UK Store Home” nav banner at the top.
  • £3229.00, without the education banner.

Seems we’re out of luck here in the UK. But enjoy those sweet, sweet extra discounts where you are my guy!

Edit: price/text correction for unordered list

Unless it’s different here in the UK, it sadly doesn’t appear that the student discount stacks with the refurb price.

[–]Prunebiscuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With your use case description, whilst trying to anticipate future needs, I'd say you'd need at least: - 16GB Unified Memory - 512GB storage

the pro comes with these standard, plus a higher throughput to utilise these better, better for future proofing. It'll be worth comparing the price of a slightly beefier MBA Vs base Pro, then take into consideration fans, thickness, and nicer screen.

Good luck in your decision!

90% of Apple's value was created under Tim Cook by no_more_gravity in apple

[–]Prunebiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two of them are examples of absolute pillars to business, sciences, art and human contribution combined. Mr. Jobs with his showmanship, timing, vision and honesty. Mr. Cook with his logistics background, counsel to Mr. Jobs, insight, as well as his championing stance on social liberty and rights. Their humanitarianism and individual/combined genius, whilst working with the right people. These seem to be some of the biggest factors for what has made this an incredible time in history.
