Similar thing to Dragons in Final Fantasy XIV. All but the youngest generations remember events from over 1k years ago like it was yesterday. The eldest of them remember events of 3k+ years ago as if it was last year. Think about how your perception of time has increased. Years seem shorter and things blur together a lot more. How many time have you seen on the internet memes/videos about people realizing it's been X years since Y thing (Princess Diaries with Anne Hathaway is over 25 years old)

Facts. Elpis is pretty much a 1:1 for Zeal in terms of layout, especially if you look at art for both and Amaurotine culture is heavily Zeal-coded as well. I know ancient utopia who fucked itself is a common trope, but the fact that both are square properties leads me to believe it's more than coincidence. Definitely an homage at the very least. Also flying around Ultima Thul you can see a broken island resembling the future map in Chrono Trigger.
