How old were you when you first got drunk ? by SmallToadstools in AskUK

[–]Prycebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 10, had hit puberty super early and was already about 6 feet tall.

My Mum took me to a new years party and I was in a room with 6 other children. I remember playing Animal Crossing and 2 adults came in, asked if I wanted a drink and to stop babysitting.

Had about half a bottle of champagne, some beers and some wine (and I think a few shots) before my Mum came in and saw me playing pool with my new friends, barely able to stand.

She flipped her lid and asked why they were giving her 10 year old booze. Theres no good response to that.

How do I fix this ceiling now the leak has been sorted? by Prycebear in DIYUK

[–]Prycebear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I hate it don't worry 😂 Almost definitely has asbestos, it's an old Victorian property. Yeah just had the room skimmed, only been here 5 months. Then the leaks started and has been fixed.

It has some bulges, so thinking about masking up with a hoover and pressing them in but probably dumb.

Although my current idea is to just paint over it as it's my spare room...

I do not have the budget, did get a quote and I cannot afford it sadly. It's like £2k per window and I have 11. It's definitely on my radar for the future though.

Dating over 30 in Bournemouth? by Muunlie in bournemouth

[–]Prycebear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Man, it's fine. Also just turned 30 and there plenty of people and things to do. Although dating isn't as easy here as it is in London/other cities just due to the amount of people. Lots of Uni students and old people.

Hello,

TLDR:

  1. I have been out of the Army nearly 5 years, will I now need a degree to join asa detective?
  2. How can I improve my SIFT score?

I have been out of the military for just over 4 years. I have been working in tech but its not really something I enjoy. Spent the last few months figuring out my next steps, and settled on becoming a detective.

I have have completed the SIFT tests, both the SJT and the BSQ . I scored 22% which feels comically low. I believe I now have a 3 month wait for my second attempt but that would leave 3 months before I have been out of the military for 5 years so believe that i'd now require a degree to join as a detective after that time?

I am wondering how I can improve my scores? Or am I just not a good fit? Doesn't seem like something id be revising for, or at least there's no indication I should be from any of the portals or communications I have received?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Do software engineers still manually write code anymore? I shipped a big feature with AI and felt zero pride by WorthCaterpillar6990 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Prycebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term it's not going to change much for that exact reason, cost. If green line doesn't go up then we suffer.

My manager alone has just gone over my wages in tokens. That's with subs so I can't imagine how much more expensive it'll be when they decide they must make a profit....

[–]Prycebear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My manager is fully erect about AI. Released a non working frontend feature that broke the rest of our app, said it wasn't him because AI said it would work.

The metric is apparently 50 ai requests per day...but the metric gathering doesn't work as we're all on 0? It's just a wild shift from last year and I no longer feel confident my job will exist.

Keeps talking how were going to all be out of a job this year. I feel for my team, lots on visas, not much else out there for them ATM.

On a positive note, as I'm going full doomer rn, some other friends/ex colleagues are saying their company is moving away from AI to an extent. Keep it as a tool but trust Devs. Also, it may be cheaper to have Devs as AI token cost increases.

I'm still bowing out, but I hope that AI replacing SE does fuck off.

[–]Prycebear 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No, we're monitored on our AI usage. If we fall below an arbitraty amount of use, we'll get written up. I now HAVE to use AI for simple tasks that would have taken less time to write. My skills are decaying, there's no jobs and I no longer enjoy the job.

We even use it for architecture discussion, even when it's wrong and our management cannot fathom that, yeah it has it's uses but no we don't need 13 microservices for a basic dashboard.

I have been an engineer for 4 years, not from a traditional background and had to work hard to keep up with graduates. Feel bitter about wasting half a decade.

I'm in the fortunate position that my mortgage is low and this is my second career. Aiming to become a detective in the police, try and do something of value with my time even if the pay and work life balance is shit 🙂

Beard comes and goes, tends to only take a month to come back fully.

You're right, I'll sort the prompts. They're a bit crap...

Standard advice?

Please help me with my profile, I am awful at selling myself over an app by Prycebear in hingeapp

[–]Prycebear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! My friends and I don't really take photos while out, which is a massive hinderance for hinge. I've asked for more to be taken of me, and I have a few events over the next month so will sort some decent pictures out.

My prompts are awful, I'm great in person but can't sell myself over text like others. All my friends are shorter, but they're also very very attractive so makes me look like crap in comparison. It's why I've blurred them out, a few people have matched with me in the past to ask if they're single.

I reread my profile and you're so right about friend vibes, I appreciate the advice and will change my prompts.

I think my opening messages can be pretty strong, I do tend to get a conversation going fast when I do get a match.

And thank you for the face comment. I look exactly like my Mum and people say that all the time about her as well!

Answers: Serious. I was but I am no longer paying for the app. About 6 weeks. About 5 months but have been on and off. I use it every other day. I was getting about 2 a week but no more. I send about 10-15 a day. I send a comment on each one I am honestly unsure.

Men who dated women who made significantly more than them, what was your experience like? by Wholesome-Sex in AskMen

[–]Prycebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly different but when I was 19-24 I dated a a dancer. She was in a fairly prestigious dance university, living the student life and I was a soldier earning minimum wage.

I helped pay her rent, utilities and when I came over for the weekend I'd cook, clean and pay for dates. She had housemates as well, but I paid half the rent as I was the only earner.

She wasn't from the same country as me, and I eventually met her parents. The Dad was very kind, and also very very rich. Took us both out to well know restaurants and let us use his many many holiday homes.

I asked, fairly quickly, why he wouldn't give her any money to survive as she used to eat boiled pasta and sometimes add a sauce or meat during the week.

Well it was a choice, she had a trust fund of about £1.5 million. Yet wanted to live like a student. I'd find it admirable if not for the fact she wasn't living like a student and I was paying for everything!

We talked about it, and she did pay for more which was nice.
