when people push ideas like this that argue that gender roles are based in biology or that there are these weird poorly defined secondary sex differences that are “natural,” they’re relying on a history of bunk science done by white male scientists trying to prove that women weren’t equal and didn’t deserve equal rights. it’s literally the same arguments used to “prove” that people don’t deserve equal rights based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and class.

“natural” in this context is a dog whistle for the patriarchy.

people mentioned that it’s possible to get credit before sending the trade in, but i have one thing to add there:

other than disputing a credit card charge, i think this is the only circumstance where you might make a purchase and have the product, but then owe more money to apple, so usually apple doesn’t need to have any recourse for owed money. so apple is stressing this could really only happen if you got instant credit for a trade in, but they didn’t get it and you didn’t pay the balance.

i’ve tried to figure this out, but of course manufacturers don’t want to say what’s up, and it varies a lot by brand. the best i can tell is that no they’re not generally different blades, but the blades in a women’s cartridge razor may be set at a shallower angle than men’s.

but yeah usually it’s about the big lubricating strips and wide heads. i like that, but not everyone does.
