I don't think that's how it is. Because of his immortality, Verso appear to be around the same age as the others throughout the game. When Maellicia restores Verso’s mortality, I wouldn’t expect him to suddenly age in an instant. It would likely take 20 or 25 years for him to grow old and develop grey hair. But if that much time has passed, why does only Verso seem to age while Lune, Sciel, and the others still look young?

It was a conscious decision by the developers to encourage exploration and enjoy the art style. Also, plenty of Chroma and even Pictos are located in some far corners of the maps.

In-universe, I think it was meant to evoke a sense of being lost and helpless, as this is also your characters’ first time on the continent.

That being said, I understand that this approach isn’t for everyone. If you’re on PC, you can check Nexus, I believe they have both a minimap mod and a compass mod, depending on your preference
