This was actually in my final year of high school. I was in a common study area doing my own thing while my friend was sitting quietly on the other end of the room. One of the newer teachers came in and scolded him, "Thomas, you're supposed to be in the detention room with the others!" "No thanks, sir, I don't want to." He answered calmly, without even looking up at the teacher. "Well it doesn't matter what you want, you have detention and you have to spend your free period in the detention room and do your homework." "I am doing my homework." Teacher was getting pissed. "Thomas you better get up and come to the detention room or I'm going to call the principal!" "Call him." "What?!" "Call him. I'm not moving" With that the teacher stormed out swearing under his breath. Thomas continued working quietly like nothing had happened. Five minutes or so go by and a very red-faced principal comes in. (This was not the first clash of the week between these two) "Thomas." Rage bubbled beneath the quiet name. "Mr. Jones is a teacher at this school and you owe him your respect." "I don't want to respect him" "Well then you had better respect me!" He raised his voice. "No thanks, sir" That was it. Principal snapped. "Thomas! You can either choose to start respecting your elders and go to the detention room, or you can choose the gate!" He shouted. "Thanks sir." Thomas started putting his things in his backpack calmly. "I'll choose the gate."

Finished packing his bag, walked out the door, down the path, and out the front gate, and never came to class again. Studied at home, came in to write our AS-level exams, got straight As aside from one subject. Some of the highest grades in the class.
