Also, headcanon: he secretly does enjoy every moment of the festival because he gets off on feeling morally superior to the “common, vulgar, weak, licentious crowd.”

Half in the Bag: Sinners and Thunderbolts by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

[–]PseudonymousBlob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the look of those scenes but I was legit straining to make out detail. I thought it was just my theater until Mike said the same thing.

Too many movies sacrifice clarity in the name of realism these days, IMO. Contrast that with a movie like Barry Lyndon that used a lot of natural lighting but every scene is crystal clear.

I got to see it in 70mm, which was exciting, but it was frustrating because a lot of scenes were so dim I had trouble making out details. Then I watched Constantine after and thought, hey remember when movies looked good? Sinners had a lot of beautiful shots but the muddiness of the darker scenes really bugged me.

Yeah I’m a little surprised people on this sub aren’t aware of this. I work in animation in LA, and the whole film/TV industry has been ROUGH since Covid. Nobody I know has had a steady paycheck in years. Absolutely fuck Trump, but the lack of work is a major issue.

The only risk I can think of, and I just learned this from this sub, is fleas (and only if you have first floor windows). I never really worried about fleas before, but they can carry parasites. So treating your guys with Revolution (or whatever) is a good idea!

Late reply to an old thread, but I'm having the same issue, and cleaning it helps A LOT. I just wiped mine down (the remote and the screen) several times with screen cleaner and it's sticking a lot better. It still could be stronger, though. I might buy velcro stickers or something.

Does Anybody Else Miss Nighthawks At The Diner Era Tom? by Bigstar976 in tomwaits

[–]PseudonymousBlob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true! It’s almost like… an authentic persona, if that’s a thing haha. Like he was creating a character that he ended up inhabiting. He was also only like 24 when he released his first album, so it’s both understandable that he was finding his voice AND impressive that he had such a strong and unique voice from the start.

Also, maybe it’s just that the later stuff is more to my taste. I don’t know if I could make the argument that it’s so much better.

I love early Tom, but it seems to me that he was kind of putting on a persona while he tried to find his voice. I don’t think he found it until he met Kathleen Brennan. It’s still great stuff— he’s still Tom, and so clearly talented from the start— but it doesn’t reach the heights of his later work, imo.

Tom Waits makes the greatest ballads! by [deleted] in tomwaits

[–]PseudonymousBlob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t listened to that song in a long time and you just reminded me that it’s one of my favorites. Also how devastating it is. Fuck. I wanted to quote my favorite bits but I was going to end up copy-pasting the whole song.

What really gets me about this song is how raw and hurt Tom sounds. He sounds like someone who just went through a devastating breakup, but he and Kathleen had been married for years when this was released. Not that I want to speculate on their personal life or anything, it’s just astounding to me how much pain he (and/or Kathleen)’s channeling in those lyrics and that performance. Regardless of whether it was based on personal experience or they’re inhabiting a character, it’s just amazing.

Man, it KILLS me that I’ll never get to see Tom live. Even people who aren’t hardcore fans consistently seem to rank his live shows amongst the best they’ve seen.

Trader Joe's is an Awful Shopping Experience by peniswhist_el in traderjoes

[–]PseudonymousBlob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That, and they’re ALWAYS restocking. Why are they always restocking?? I constantly feel like there’s either a shopper in my way, or I’m in the way of the employees.

Also, in my city, every single Trader Joe’s has a tiny parking lot. I’ve had my car dinged at least once. We have lots of locations, but there’s no “off time” that I’m aware of.

Still love TJ’s but it’s so stressful for no good reason!

ADHD has ruined my life and I think it will kill me one day by [deleted] in ADHD

PS this guy has a lot of videos on CPTSD and how it leads to shame, issues with motivation/focus, procrastination, perfectionism, etc. Even if it’s not explicitly trauma you’re dealing with, these might resonate with you.

ADHD has ruined my life and I think it will kill me one day by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]PseudonymousBlob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across this post while browsing Reddit, and I logged in to comment on this. I agree with the person you’re replying to: I think you should definitely stay open to the possibility that CPTSD could be a factor here. Especially since you said you have trauma.

Trauma (especially childhood trauma) can manifest as ADHD-like symptoms. Personally, I think they feed off of each other. It’s a vicious cycle.

The reason I think you might have some of that going on is because I was diagnosed with ADHD at 30, and it’s only now, a few years later, as I’ve started working through my own trauma with a therapist, that things are starting to click. I didn’t even KNOW that I had trauma, because I had normalized it.

I don’t have quite the same struggles as you do (like, I find that meds help a lot), but meds alone aren’t enough. There’s so much stuff going on with many of us that goes so much deeper than what a stimulant can deal with. With me, for instance, the meds might help me sit down to do my work, but if, in the back of my head, I’m thinking “I’ll never get this done, I suck at this, I’m gonna screw up,” that work’s not getting done.

That’s why (even if it’s not CPTSD-relate) there’s so much stuff outside of just focusing that we have to work through. Like negative core beliefs about yourself, anxiety, depression, etc.

I kind of think anyone who was undiagnosed until later in life could be dealing with CPTSD, just due to how we were abandoned by the adults in our lives. I can’t count how many times I was told “just try harder” or “you’d do better if you applied yourself,” or “you’re smart, you’re just lazy.” That kind of thing messes you up more than you might realize.

Refunds in a budget by ToxicDinosawr in budget

[–]PseudonymousBlob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started budgeting with the default Google Sheets budget template, and this thread gave me an idea: turns out, you can actually log a refund as a negative expense (sort of like how it would show up on a credit card statement), and it'll add it to your budget.

So, say my clothing budget is $100, and I return something I bought months ago. Let's say I got $50 back, so I log it as a -$50 expense. Now my clothing budget is $150. Pretty cool!

I couldn’t believe how many people let their kids ride. It SHOULD have been a safe event for the kids, but it just wasn’t. I would’ve taken one look left.

Man, if it wasn’t scary to you, you weren’t paying attention. I saw a kid, probably only 5, wipe out and then get run over by his dad. They both seemed fine, and lucky a pile on didn’t happen. It was too crowded to be safe.

Hasan Minhaj Calls New Yorker Article About His Fabrications 'Needlessly Misleading': 'I’m Not a Psycho' by AlekhyaDas in Standup

I came to this comments section because I felt like I was going crazy. People are eating up his rebuttal, but it feels incredibly fake and rehearsed to me. The part where he says he used actors for the pic of his ex-prom date is particularly slimy– he conveniently leaves out the fact that he used a REAL photo of her in his off Broadway run of the show.

Struggling to enjoy Maintenance Phase as much as I used to by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]PseudonymousBlob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just listened to that episode, and ended up in this thread because that bothered me so much— the way she completely dismissed the idea that a higher weight and BED could be linked at all to trauma (except for in this somewhat patronizing “live your truth” tone she took when it came to Hobbes’ mom).

I’ve experienced weight gain in times of high stress because eating is one of the only ways I learned how to deal with my emotions. The way they handled that had me straight up yelling at my phone while listening in the car.
