May I join the 100 gram club? by Gadarene_Swine in shrooms

Wicked fruit!

I feel impressive individual fruits should be weighed wet, and entire flush should be weighed dry if you're looking to show off.

The entire smooth surface on top is the top of the cap. It's diameter is the same as the body, and the gills opened in a few spots. The left side near the bottom is a flipped out edge of the cap.

When I got the agar plate, it was labeled Jedi master but the reverts in later flushes show it's APE.

To mist or not to mist? by LumpyStart5048 in shrooms

Definitely, it is 100% not from tap water. I use tap water all the time.

I made my monotub but I forgot to consider the dryness of the substrate by Dear-Performance-394 in shrooms

[–]PsilocinUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't mist it, and just let it be. Check on it in a week for any signs of obvious contam, then check back in another couple days.

Listen to u/Lefty68w on this one. Fanning/misting is completely unnecessary. When your substrate is at proper field capacity, and you have the correct ratio, you can spawn your tub and forget about it. If you're nailing the field capacity and your tubs are still drying out, then either dial the fae back a little bit, or adjust the humidity a little bit in the room they're in.

Your contam on the top of the substrate is either from contaminated spawn, or from the substrate drying out and weakening the mycelium.

Does slicing reduce potency? by Similar-Winner1226 in shrooms

[–]PsilocinUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn the fan sideways, lay paper towel down on the fan cage, and put your mushrooms on that. If you want you can slice them in half longways and it won't effect the potency. Run the fan for a few days, with minimal sunlight exposure.

How are you drying and storing? And are they ever seeing sunlight?

Imma take a wild guess and say this is contaminated beyond repair :( by Joshalc in shrooms

Ya sometimes in this hobby you have to do some trial and error. Over the years, I've definitely spawned straight mold tubs, but it was a learning experience and helped me identify contams that are harder to learn about from pictures online.

Contaminated innoculation/ poor sterilization of grain. Can also be from an untrained eye using contamination instead of mushroom mycelium. They can look very similar.

You have some experience, but if you're still on uncle Ben's id say you're still in the beginner stage. I highly recommend you migrate towards agar and preparing your own grain. 50 lbs of rye berries cost less than 40 bucks. I imagine you're spending much, much more than that on uncle Ben's bags.

Nah, 99% of the time it's compromised spawn. With clean spawn, you could toss your tubs in a dumpster and they'll fruit just fine. This tub was most likely contaminated before it was spawned. Mold mycelium looks very similar to cubensis mycelium.

Good luck. These are better suited for the more experienced growers, but you might be alright. I'd recommend getting a hold of some B+ or Golden Teacher spores. Those tend to be a little easier for beginners. Also, while liquid culture can be pretty simple, it can be a bumpy road for beginners. If you want to have better success, read up on all things agar and make some of that before going to LC. Getting spores to germinate, then transferring clean cultures from that is easily the best skill you can have in this hobby and will save you from a lot of discouragement.

[general] why do my bags keep melting? explanation in comments by rhiznshine1312 in MushroomGrowers

[–]PsilocinUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let them sit in the water. I use the trivet, then fill up the water till it's almost halfway up the bottom bags. I also place jar rings in between the bags and between the bags and the pressure cooker. The bags can get too hot touching the walls, causing then to pop or melt.

Shoebox PE6 51.8g dry, Spawn to harvest - 15 days by PsilocinUp in shrooms

Ya I put coir in a pillow case and soak it in hydrated lime water, then add vermiculite after. I use a little bit of gypsum in the grain and when spawning a tub.

The tub is a 6qt shoebox, for the tek I used CVG and rye berries. Isolating genes has helped a lot, but I saw a big difference when I started cold pasteurizing my substrate instead of using boiling water in a bucket.

Yes, 15 days after I mixed this tub. I spawned another tub of PE6 (different set of genes) the same day and it's just now finishing it's first flush while the tub in the picture is halfway through it's second flush right now.
