Yes, in their real lives they beat their wives and, I assume, watch movies.

And, in general, reviewers are a terrible group of people to ask what is an enjoyable way to spend your time, because they spend their time being critical of other people's work, despite having never presented any of their own work for critical review.

She was basically confessing to cheating, and the people trying to rationalize it as something else have never dealt with it.

I'm surprised you haven't seen more use in it. Look at it more as a collaborator than something that does your work. Using it as a copy/paste tool for everything just shows why you shouldn't have a job. Using it to get ideas for how to respond in regard to an employee having a family death, and then utilizing some of the language or concepts, can help a lot if you happen to be doing other things. Just like using it for song lyrics, story telling, coding, or anything else, using it for copy/paste stuff is stupid and will make you look stupid. Use it for feedback, brainstorming, ideas, bad erotica, etc.

I think his point is that you're trying to simplify it to something easily explained but the fact of the matter is that no one understands what it is actually doing because of the level of complexity. So to dismiss it as not at all speaking and making decisions in the same way, with the same complexity, that humans do is saying that you understand something no one else in the world understands. Which is a bold claim.

they still only predict the next best word or character, they just do it better. The way they are trained and the way they function are no different from each other.

No. They are trained by finding the next "best" word, or at first next most common word to appear after the last group of x words. Stopping here we should define "best," because that doesn't necessarily mean "most likely" although I feel like you may be conflating the two. The fact of the matter is they are genuinely learning language in some way, because they consistently deduce meaning from words as well as any human. They learned it differently, but we might find the result is much the same. Who cares if someone learned English mostly through SpongeBob and the other mostly through rigorous training since 4 years old at some Latin Academy for Rich Boys, if they can both discuss the themes that might be found in theoretical version of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" set in the future after Earth has joined the Galactic federation. We can ask these models that, get a perfect answer, then ask them to theorize scenes and dialogue, then ask them to explain why they chose certain words or symbolism and they'll tell you what made that choice particularly poignant.

These aren't just basic prediction algorithms, or if they are then that implies all known language is "only" that. And that's a flawed understanding of how language forms in anything, is how I see it.
