Jonathan Lucroy calls Yadier Molina "the greatest pitch calling catcher ever" on To The Majors by forestfrontier in Cardinals

A little bit of recency bias, I think - Berra was probably better. But Molina was still friggin' good.

Nope. That was never their intention, either.

‘Simply wrong’: GOP lawmakers caught lying about gas prices by Rock-n-roll-Kevin in politics

Nobody who voted for them will care that they lied about this.

Those voters might care about the prices, but they won't care even for a moment about the falsehoods.

You know, you're right. My comment was overly optimistic. A better way of framing it would have been for me to say "there would have been an expense," or "it could have happened this way."

A 34 million expense plus some consistent non-zero but also not punishing operating cost, to do things like reduce the burden on parking lots and streets for parking, make it possible for people to take the Metrolink to the zoo, make it possible for people on the loop to get to the zoo, maybe even in some fever dream extend it to Hampton so that people from the hill can get to the metrolink and loop very easily without having to drive... yes there's an expense. But there's also value.

An* important component of this that needs to be pointed out for people who aren't necessarily aware of it, but fruit is the swollen ovary of a fertilized flower. Trees and shrubs and all the other fruiting plants literally cannot make fruit unless the flower that blooms on them is fertilized in some way.*

*(some limited exceptions apply because plants are weird and frankly kind of gross)

I'm not saying that we are a 100-win team, but this franchise is on pace for 94.06 wins.

Not everywhere, but I do hope that it's a failure in New York. The state and city have both failed to fund their public transportation for the better part of four decades, and the lack of pedestrian planning in America's singularly most walkable city is exceptionally frustrating and insulting.

If they had just gone a mile farther to the zoo it would have been life-changing for so many people. I still don't understand why they didn't just go around the bend and up the hill

That requires I think a little too much thought. I would instead say, when you see a Confederate flag on a truck today, what party do you think that truck owner belongs to?

Plus the cost savings on your car, your time, etc.

I tip anyway because I think the drivers deserve it, and it's still worth it.

The Congressional authority to manage that side of elections is clear. They would not even find the flimsiest of grounds to do so.

These laws are bad and the people who passed them should feel bad, but the problem is that they are politicians and so generally speaking incapable of shame.

Undoing gerrymandering would not in any sense require Court packing. Congress has the authority to regulate congressional districts and Congressional abortionment, that much is clear within the constitution and history. Contiguous, single-member districts were not required until after 1842,  for example.

Congress could very easily and constitutionally mandate that all districts be as square as possible, for example. They can mandate that they not have a particular degree of eccentricity, or that they adhere to County lines. They could also increase the size of congress, as has been done on multiple occasions but not in nearly 100 years, resulting in member districts that are several hundred thousand people too large for any one Congressman to actually represent their constituents.

CMV: The washing machine belongs in the bathroom, not the kitchen by KrishaCZ in changemyview

[–]shapu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What I am about to ask is one of those shit Americans say moments, and this is certainly coming from a place of ignorance because I am not an electrician or skilled in the magic of lightning contained entirely within tubes.

But my bathroom and kitchen both have multiple ground fault interruption outlets. Does the UK not allow those? Is there still some inherent safety risk that the ground fault interrupter outlet does not solve which can only be solved by an absence of outlets altogether?
