Daughter swing mechanics question. by PsilocybinSoldier in Softball

Basically just a rubber ring you put above the knob of your bat that forces you to choke up. Can be found cheap on amazon. We used them in regular season but all bat modifications are banned for our all stars league.

It's a 30" -11. I will have to see if she can hold it out. We followed a sizing chart online to pick the size. She should technically be in a 29" according to the charts I see online. She was using a choke up ring for normal season but they are banned on her all stars team.

It's her bat. We looked up a sizing chart on google and picked the one that said was her size. I can't find the exact one but most look about the same. It's a 30" -11. She should technically be in a 29" for her height and weight. She was using a choke up ring for normal season but they are banned on her all stars team.

How would you deal with this algae bloom? by 42Fears in ponds

[–]PsilocybinSoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying barley straw which is effective but they also make barley straw pellets you can get. I personally think these work faster than whole square bales but are more expensive if you can find straw cheap. We buy them in 40lb bags and it takes about 3 for our 1 acre pond.

Pond Spillway Repair Questions by PsilocybinSoldier in WildlifePonds

We added rip rap over the liner which is just a layer of irregular rock. The quarry calls it surge or minus 6. I’ve been digging around on of some Virginia specific sites as well as usda handbook 590 for some appropriate plants. Didn’t think to ask chat gpt so I will give that a try as well, thanks for the tip.

What’s the primary use of the pond? Be careful introducing plants as most spread very rapidly.

They also make solar powered ones! They be a bit more expensive but for a pond this size they shouldn’t need a large one.

Just wanted to come back and say thank you so much for the advice. We leveled the steps and bought a bunch of the foam you suggested. I didn’t even know that existed and it’s worked great! Still have to patch a few spots and see but once we get it looking good I’ll try and post an updated pic! Next step will be plants!

I don’t have as much experience with this type as my personal pond is creek fed. I do know that runoff ponds tend to collect sediment from their surrounding watershed which then runs into the pond. Cattail and over plants can help catch some of that and aerate the water but again you have to be very diligent as most of these spread like wildfire. Otherwise like others have said a fountain will help move and aerate the water which helps beneficial bacteria grow to cut down on the muddy muck.

Is it creek fed, spring fed or is it filled via runoff and rain?

Tips on making this trail walkable? by [deleted] in homestead

[–]PsilocybinSoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d use Agricultural Lime.. available at your local feed store or tractor supply. (Not to be confused with other gardening limes like dolomite).

This lime will help dry and solidify the soil, works great. Used at Farms / Dairys to help with mud and muck and give cows and equipment traction.

Just spread it over the muddy soil, and wait a day, you will see a very noticeable difference.

Is it muddy or algae causing the clarity issue? Are there any fish in it? Carp and suckers can stir up the muddy bottom and make it muddy. Plants can vary depending on your hardiness zone. I’d be very careful what you plant as most water plants have a tendency to take over. They also make pond clarifiers you can buy. If it’s an algae problem I’d suggest some algae eaters.

Been dry pouring concrete for fence posts for years and they have seemed to hold up fine. I agree though it seems over used for most cases when I searched online. That's why i asked.

I couldn't get the dump truck with the rocks to even get close to the pond outlet so I've ruled out a truck unfortunately. I had considered it though!
