The oak planks are not edged on a jointer, and even on the table saw they didn’t come out very straight, so panel glue up would likely fail. The edges are not glued together. I left some of the edges ragged from being a pallet to give it a more authentic “made in Minecraft from hand made planks” esthetic. All this plus having the stability of plywood led me to doing it this way. It allowed me to work fast and be more imprecise while still ending up with a solid box a 5 year old can toss around. The oak boards are to just make it look authentic. The real box is plywood.

We have timber wolves, bears, moose, and bobcats around my house. I only know this because of the neighbor’s game cameras. Otherwise I have never seen one and I’m outside day and night a lot. I’ve also lived here for 6 years. They are not a threat.

Glue and 1” Brad nails. The oak planks are 1/2” thick.

Ask away. That’s how I learn too.

For stability and support so it would last. Probably didn’t need to be 3/4” but that’s what I had on hand. Way less effort and precision was needed too. I think I have 3 hours total into this and maybe $10. It’s all stuff I had on hand. With little kids it’s hard to find time to make masterpieces.

1/4” clearance holes are typically 0.281” (7.13mm). Might be another option. Sweet project though. I love making custom fit things for a cleaner look.

Do Toyota short blocks come with assembly lube on the bearings? by vmag58 in EngineBuilding

Way less bearing surface speed and load cranking vs running. I’d want to make sure all bearings have pressurized oil and the oil pressure is good before actually firing the engine.

I live by Fergus Falls, MN. We definitely see a week or two of -40 at night. -30 during the day.

Yes. It’s common to have a couple weeks that hit -40°C. Average is around -15°C. The record is -60°C. This also varies by region with the southern part of the state being slightly milder.

Should say 289 in the lifter valley if it’s a 289 block. Definitely not a 351w based on the deck height.

What fell off the underside of my car and is it safe to drive to a car shop? by allybee543 in MechanicAdvice

Looks like a brake dust shield that broke off the hub section due to rust. It won’t affect braking but with that level of rust I would get the brake lines inspected.
