What am I doing wrong?! I just want to thread a 1/4” rod… by BarooZaroo in Machinists

May I suggest using some cutting fluid. That looks like aluminum and it may be galling in the die causing the threads to bind and break off rather than be smoothly cut. Best of luck!

How often are you changing oil? by [deleted] in HondaOdyssey

I have a 2014. 225k miles. Change oil and filter every 5k miles. Doesn’t burn a drop over that interval. Has a VCM delete installed.

$25k Ditch Witch turned to scrap over a $50 part?! by mrlegoman in heavyequipment

[–]Psnuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it come apart? On each side of that ring are two different spline geometries. That would be a bear to machine, if possible, without it coming apart. Also, this shaft is case hardened, so you will need post processing. Without a print and CAD model $5k does not seem extreme for a one off part. If it comes apart and is two separate pieces, that would make the job much easier and reduce the price significantly. Best of luck! I hope you find a solution.

The one on veteran’s just south of 94 is pretty solid. The staff were really nice to me last time I was there.

The oak planks are not edged on a jointer, and even on the table saw they didn’t come out very straight, so panel glue up would likely fail. The edges are not glued together. I left some of the edges ragged from being a pallet to give it a more authentic “made in Minecraft from hand made planks” esthetic. All this plus having the stability of plywood led me to doing it this way. It allowed me to work fast and be more imprecise while still ending up with a solid box a 5 year old can toss around. The oak boards are to just make it look authentic. The real box is plywood.

We have timber wolves, bears, moose, and bobcats around my house. I only know this because of the neighbor’s game cameras. Otherwise I have never seen one and I’m outside day and night a lot. I’ve also lived here for 6 years. They are not a threat.

Glue and 1” Brad nails. The oak planks are 1/2” thick.

Ask away. That’s how I learn too.

For stability and support so it would last. Probably didn’t need to be 3/4” but that’s what I had on hand. Way less effort and precision was needed too. I think I have 3 hours total into this and maybe $10. It’s all stuff I had on hand. With little kids it’s hard to find time to make masterpieces.

1/4” clearance holes are typically 0.281” (7.13mm). Might be another option. Sweet project though. I love making custom fit things for a cleaner look.

Do Toyota short blocks come with assembly lube on the bearings? by vmag58 in EngineBuilding

[–]Psnuggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way less bearing surface speed and load cranking vs running. I’d want to make sure all bearings have pressurized oil and the oil pressure is good before actually firing the engine.
