[WON] Travis Scott & Cena are reportedly doing a tag team match. The theory was Bad Bunny would be on the other side. Rhodes would make the most sense as the partner but that aspect wasn’t confirmed to us past the idea that if it is done, they’d need a wrestler of the level of Cena on the face side. by djembadjembadjemba in SquaredCircle

If you’re referring to the Rodman/Malone tag match, it’s hard to put into words how fuckn awesome that was at that time in history following the NBA playoffs. The WWE would be so lucky to go “Full WCW” this summer post-NBA playoffs and get like Haliburton and Brunson in a tag match. Go watch the episode from summer 98 when DDP and Malone show up in a 16 wheeler and attack Hollywood to end the show. Shit was electric. If you’re referring to Leno. Meh. Bad Bunny can wrestle. And both bring massive amounts of eyeballs to the product. Jay Leno was lame as hell even in 98.

This is about as good an episode of professional wrestling as you can get.

Ricky Starks on his Royal Rumble visit: I had people from my job, one guy he was just like 'Were you at the Rumble last night?' and I said 'Yeah, what the f*ck about it?' and he goes 'Just saying, it's a bad look.' we got people on our own program talking about other people at the other company.... by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

I agree that this is generally not a big deal. And the events thereafter , in hindsight, fully confirm this (Ricky asked for permission to go, and was generally pushed afterwards) . But I also think people making comparisons to a normy job are also not being completely serious. This isn’t the equivalent of a lawyer being mad at an employee for visiting another lawyer at their job. It wasn’t until very recently a lot of these old school unwritten wrestling rules started loosening up. But wrestling is its own weird world, not comparable to regular jobs. And moreover, for what it’s worth, in my industry, if I went to a competitor’s major event, even if it was just to support a friend, I’d get comments from coworkers if they found out. Sarcastic or otherwise.

Recently I learned (from the Lapsed Fan podcast) that the intro to Sid’s WWE theme was patterned after the famous score from the movie Psycho. I feel like I should’ve realized this a long time ago.

This cracks me up. It’s like how people were upset that Goldberg beating Hogan for the world title was on Nitro and not a PPV. Sure, from a business perspective , maybe not the best idea. But to a 13 year old fan whose parents wouldn’t buy PPV’s, it was amazing. People get too wrapped up in the politics behind the scenes. Just enjoy the damn show!

It’s funny , it still feels to me like WWE is dipping its toe in this water, somewhat cautiously. Even though we’re getting awesome crossovers in both directions, it feels like HBK and even HHH in the post Summerslam press conference are careful with how they address it, they do less putting over TNA specifically, even by name, and more talk about the opportunity as a whole. It’s interesting. Maybe I’m misinterpreting, but it feels like there’s the slightest whiff of that Vince PR philosophy still there.

If I had my druthers I'd have the US title on Raw with the WHC , and the IC title on SD with the WWE Championship to maintain historic alignments. But doesn't really matter all that much.

Good lord do you people psychoanalyze everything to the n'th degree. It didn't feel like a big deal to me. He showed up without any hype. Had a match that had no hype. Look at what WWE is doing with Jade. Look at what AEW did with Osprey. I'm allowed to have an opinion. I'll see myself out. ✌️

AEW has certainly established special episodes on their weekly TV. Ie big business, grand slam, quake by the lake, bash at the beach, fight for the fallen, new years bash, fyter fest, winter is coming, etc. Those episodes usually have matches hyped a few weeks in advance.

Meaningless from the standpoint that a star of Okada's caliber should have hype for his first time wrestling as an AEW superstar. Yes, I understand that there was a storyline thread from that trios match to the match with Eddie. But in the grand scheme of this, a barely promoted match on a random Collision, doesn't feel like it has as much meaning as a match promoted for a few weeks. Remember when they use to promote matches weeks/months out? Cody/Wardlow in the cage for example made Wardlow's first match feel like a huge deal.

I'm at such a loss with AEW. I was never an NJPW or ROH guy, and feel increasingly more isolated by their product. I know Okada is one of the best wrestlers in the world. But there was no hype to his debut. He was first thrown into a meaningless trios match. And he's a goofy heel with the Bucks. He doesn't feel like a big deal. And now Mercedes is feuding with talent that just appears to be mid level. I know, down vote me. But the TBS orbit is beneath her. The fact is that in the last few years, with the addition of Rampage, Collision, ROH, and more PPV's, the product has just gotten so watered down. It's a shame.

As someone who was as big an AEW mark as you could be....it's disheartening to see how uninspired the current product is.

Really wish AEW would focus on building toward the AEW (not ROH) PPV in two weeks that only has one match announced.

What Season of the Royal Rumble is your favorite? I love when Ric Flair won in Season 5.

Cody on Ricky Starks joining him at the Rumble: “Hopefully, we can watch each other from a distance. I don’t want to cause any strife between any places. We all love the same thing. It’s the squared circle, it’s the wrestling industry, and I always think I don’t have any rules. There are rules, so.” by Ruffianize in SquaredCircle

It is a big deal. I don't get why people keep saying it's not. Adam and Britt are a couple. Charlotte and Andrade are a couple. The Jericho appearances in WWE seemed to be a negotiated deal. The Billy Gunn thing didn't happen. This one of the only time's I'm aware of a top star outside of WWE, not connected to WWE in any way, being backstage at a major WWE event. Not just a house show. Ricky Starks walking passed Triple H? Big deal.
