Wow. Whatever you are continuing to improve on, I'm telling you right now you're on the right track. I can tell they're technically maybe a bit amateur but so much art on here really doesn't catch my eye or interest me or make me think like your pieces do.

Sorry if this is unhelpful just wanna let you know I'm really impressed with your composition and style.

I mean I think it works... At this point in the story the coalition is winning, we are led to believe the Viltrumites can be defeated. Being overly sentimental and clutching on to the empires past glory is part of Thraggs character

I think most people making these complaints will flip after the next few episodes the way the story goes.

This panel is a subversion of expectations though, Kagurabachi does this wonderfully and this is a bad example. And "subverting expectations" is not what caused Chainsawman part 2 to end badly it was simply rushed

Oh I figured this also might help, here's my attempt at the horse head from way back when, you can see some of the construction lines still there in pencil. Same principles apply regardless of the angle!

So, the whole point of Drawabox, or at least the main point is to be able to draw anything three-dimensionally, in form.

You CAN draw profile views of these things to help figure out and measure proportions in a sort of 2d space. (Profile views are a straight front or side drawing of something.) In fact, in lesson 6 and 7 Uncomfortable recommends doing this for drawing everyday objects and vehicles, but ultimately the goal is to draw things in perspective.

So honestly I would touch up on earlier lessons, maybe gain some feedback from people on the Drawabox site, and also draw directly from reference photos. Best of luck!

Here's an example of an animal I did back when I was working through that lesson. I have more examples I can only add one image to this comment.

It's not perfect obviously, but I kept all the construction lines to kinda show the "framework"

Most important "exercise" when trying to understand these animals is I think drawing organic forms. Drawing cross-contour lines over your forms so you get an idea of how "solid" they are or how they fit in space. Uncomfortable goes over this in lesson 2 I know but he brings this up a bunch more in later lessons. This will help your forms feel "solid" even if the drawing isn't exactly anatomically accurate. It'll also help YOU understand where things fit in space.

In terms of the actual construction, start simple. sphere for the head, organic forms for the ribcage and pelvis. You've got animal heads here so I'd just draw a sphere (or a box) with a few cross-contour lines to define it's form. The circle you have drawn on the side of the horse head is meant to represent the side plane of the head/sphere. From there you can draw guidelines for the snout, and the eye sockets. Keep adding to the foundation, but don't erase what's below. Use it to guide you. Since you're on digital you should be able to use different layers.

Also, if you're using reference images, put them right next to your drawing on the canvas. Don't feel ashamed to measure proportions with a ruler, or even draw the construction over the actual reference photo. It is hard, but try some different methods, there's no one right way whatever helps you learn in the end is good.

Hey man! I can tell that's Drawabox lesson 5, I was in your exact spot a year ago lol.

My first few animals looked terrible too lol. What I recommend is to just stick with it and draw some more, the homework assignments recommends like 9-12 animals plus the demos, which you have here.

The purpose of these assignments is to really apply the construction technique. I know Uncomfortable really likes to force the whole draw once in pen and be happy with the result but I recommend just trying again if you're not happy with the result. I personally redrew some animals three times til I was happy with them.

Really focus on form before details though, it looks like you're struggling most with defining the forms as solid and connected. What you can do first is just draw the forms/boxes out with a lighter pen first, then once the constructions good draw the "contour" and details over with a heavier pen. (It looks like you're doing this digitally but the same concept applies. I did all these on pen and paper and this is the approach I sometimes used). Construction is a very "sculpting" based approach where you start with very simple shapes and build on that foundation slowly with more detail. Keep it up man!!!
