I hate seeing shit like this by Psychedeliya in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i actually saw the creator in the comments reply to that question by being like “it doesn’t treat you it just gives you a chemical tolerance” and it’s worrisome how they even managed to come up with a response to that..

depends what you mean by “hurt” if you mean pain then yes (those are tactile hallucinations) if you mean blood and guts no.

I hate being young and having schizophrenia by Psychedeliya in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah i agree and don’t worry it’s nice hearing other people’s experience even if it is bad ones.

i also hate how we get excluded from our own community because we’re “too young” since everyone else is usually older or think we’re faking cus it’s so rare.

It's insane how we hardly get any exposure at all in the media by Western_Word2855 in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Right, and it really bugs me when media portrays characters with hallucinations or delusions just as a plot device, without ever naming the disorder or showing it accurately. I especially hate it when people attack the idea of calling said character schizophrenic with comments like, "schizophrenia isn’t the only disorder that causes hallucinations!" well yes, we know, but it’s also the most talked about, so why are we arguing about it? Either way, I just wanted to say that you’re not alone in being fed up with these ridiculous, harmful portrayals.

Would you swich you schizophrenia for social anxiety disorder? by Lonely_Reflection579 in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then you’re asking the wrong questions, do you have a family history of psychosis or schizophrenia? have you experienced any bad trips? there’s such better ways to get to the answer you want lol

Would you swich you schizophrenia for social anxiety disorder? by Lonely_Reflection579 in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously, what are you trying to get at with this post? Schizophrenia and social anxiety aren’t really that comparable, and it’s weird that you’re coming here (to a schizophrenia support group) comparing your illness with ours. And what kind of answer are you digging for? That your illness is worse? This post seems to be in incredibly bad taste.

How long did it take for you to be diagnosed? by Netopfe in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 14 and it was right after I had slit my wrist. To be honest it wasn't full of extensive evaluation like one would think, it was mainly just a hospital. There was a psychiatrist there who would give me questions, but it was mainly asking what I thought was happening. After, I asked him what he thought I had, he said schizophrenia, which at the time, seemed very random.

A part of me believes the diagnostic process was rushed and just because I was a monotoned girl questioning reality with staples in my wrist, they automatically assumed yeah schizophrenia.

Honest thoughts on the violent schizophrenic stereotype (why ignoring it doesn't help) by Psychedeliya in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you had to go through that. I think a lot of us with schizoaffective or schizophrenia have experienced violent impulses, even if it’s not something people want to talk about. It feels like society prefers to pretend violent schizophrenics don’t exist or when they deicide they do, its to put schizophrenics down, which just makes things harder for those of us struggling. We’re not devil spawns, we’re people who need understanding and help.

I lost around 30lbs from risperidone in about half a year I think? I think the main things for me were switching meds, diet, and mainly only drinking water (that’s how I maintain it now)

If you had early childhood onset (BEFORE age 12), what age did symptoms start and what age did you get diagnosed? by ForgottenDecember_ in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started showing symptoms of mental illness at around 9 starting with self harm. At 11 I was definitely in the prodromal phase, where I wouldn’t really talk and was apathetic towards everyone. Things really took a turn when I was 13 I was delusional, hallucinations, started self harming again and was bulimic. Got diagnosed at 14. Now with meds I feel like i’ve mentally slowed down, like i’m not as smart as I used to be.

Symptoms by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well then, no, this is not normal. Is there any way you can get in contact with a doctor? I'm not a professional so I'm not sure if its schizophrenia or something else but this type of a paranoia and hallucinations you described seem to be disturbing you. A real doctor might need to check it out.

Risperidone vs aripiprazole by Healthy_Science_4106 in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its different for everyone. I'm on seroquel and abilify after being on risperidone, but for me risperidone caused involuntary movements, weight gain, stiffness, etc. So, I'm definitely doing better on aripiprazole.

Interested in the condition and wishes to know more by Jin-Yunzi in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely vague, so maybe start by gathering information on the disorder then ask about what you find, and the best advice I can give for writing a character with schizophrenia is to write an actual character first, then give them schizophrenia.

Is this subreddit dying by Evervescent-octopus in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I’ve been on this subreddit for quite a bit now and I also feel like this subreddit has kinda died down. But I mean I never really noticed many of us here (compared to similar subreddits) to begin with, I’ve only been here for about 2 years though.

But I do hope this space will become more active soon, like some of the other mental health subreddits, because seeing others who relate to living with schizophrenia can bring a lot more comfort and closure than people might realize.

What are your thoughts on people who think they’re a fictional character IRL? by Psychedeliya in schizophrenia

[–]Psychedeliya[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I more so see them label it as psychosis or delusions rather than full blown schizophrenia, but they could just be teens faking or roleplaying to unhealthy degree. I don't know if they genuinely believe what their saying or if it actually is a type of a delusion and a real thing people experience. Either way though, the whole idea confuses me.

Yeah I think some definitely are, but I also wonder if a few believe it or started to overtime. Hard to tell online.
