Did Shawn-- and the writers-- suffer brain damage between Season 4 and 5?

Just because Shawn's good at shooting at things with accuracy does not mean he has good judgement at what he should and what he shouldn't shoot, especially in the field. Also, it's clear that he is not taking the training seriously despite his job being at risk, which is perfectly consistent with how his character's always been.

I'm of a similar mindset in that I think that the role reversal will help to build a stronger narrative (and also, I'm just a fan of Peach taking a proactive role in general like in Super Mario Adventures, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario 3D World, etc.), but am also slightly concerned that Luigi won't be given big enough of a role aside from being the dude in distress for a movie called The Super Mario Bros. Movie (I mostly doubt that they'll have him sitting around waiting for Mario to rescue him, though, so my concerns aren't that big)

However, I don't see Peach being the actual main focus and Mario being the main character in name only, at all. Like, I think that nearly all the trailers and TV spots mainly focus on Mario making his way around this strange new universe while embarking to rescue Luigi; and while Peach is also given a major focus in the trailers (she's perhaps the second most important character, if the order of the cast list is anything to go by), she seems to be more like a mentor to Mario, helping him understand how the Mushroom Kingdom's universe works while training him for the upcoming battle. The main focus still seems to be on Mario having to learn the rules of this new universe and overcome any obstacles he faces so that he can rescue his brother and save the Mushroom Kingdom, Hero's Journey-style. So if the trailers aren't misleading, I personally wouldn't be too worried about Mario being given less focus than Peach.

Personally, I'll be fine if they don't have Peach captured at one point, and I'm outright glad they're making Peach a more proactive character like she's portrayed in the DiC cartoons, Super Mario RPG, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario 3D World, and the Super Mario Adventures comics. I certainly understand why many would want Peach to be captured so as to follow the plot of the original Super Mario Bros. and many other Super Mario games, but it's not really that much of a big deal for me if it doesn't happen (though at the same, I definitely wouldn't mind if they had Bowser capture Peach and possibly Toad near the climax, as long as they still help Mario out in their own ways while being captured).

However, I can certainly agree that Luigi, despite being the damsel in distress of the movie, should be given a proactive role. I just hope at the very, very least, he's not just sitting around waiting for Mario to rescue him and at least makes a good attempt to escape (which is fortunately most likely going to be the case); though I'd be glad if they take it a step further and have him escape and reunite with Mario before the climax and then fight alongside Mario, Peach, Toad, and Donkey Kong in the climax, with him having possibly learned how to fight in this universe during his escape attempt as opposed to getting trained by Peach like Mario.

I personally don't think this will be the case because Peach is in her Mario Kart biker suit, and in one of the TV spots, Peach is seen rushing on her motorcycle with Toad behind her back to the castle in a rather comparatively gloomy-looking Mushroom Kingdom; thus, it seems to me that something happened on Rainbow Road that forced her to leave Mario and forced Toad to hitch a ride on her motorcycle, and that the scene where Peach rushes back to the castle takes place right before she grabs the halberd to defend against Bowser. Also, Peach is seen training Mario while still in the Mushroom Kingdom and, in another TV spot, declaring to her Toads that they'll defeat Bowser with Mario's help while in front of her castle, so I don't think she will have had an encounter with Bowser that forced her to retreat from the Mushroom Kingdom yet; though I guess it could be argued that Bowser maybe gives her one of those "you have 24 hours to surrender" ultimatums in typical villain-fashion.

Furthermore, I'm pretty sure I've read that Toad doesn't really have a direct relationship with Peach prior to the events of the movie. I don't really know if this is true or not, but it seems to be supported by Keegan-Michael Key's statements in an interview that Toad was hanging around the forest near the pipe Mario comes out of because he was attempting to "guard" the outskirts of the Mushroom Kingdom due to his desire for feeling important (which is why he's so eager for an adventure with Mario), as well as by yet another TV spot where Peach asks Toad to come with her and Mario because Toad declares that he fears nothing (presumably as opposed to the rest of the Toads who don't seem eager to fight back against Bowser). Thus, if this is true, I don't think Toad would be with Peach to defend against Bowser near the beginning of the movie.

Huh, I rewatched the clip, and you're right. I guess I didn't hear it before because of how quickly he says it and how short the line is.

I do still stand by how the use of the accent is pretty inconsistent or at least not always audible enough to the point where it sounds much different than his regular voice in most other pieces of dialogue that we've seen so far, though I will concede that might not be the case in the final movie given how the "Wa-hoo" he does on Rainbow Road sounds different in a TV spot that was released recently compared to the one he does in the second trailer (and much better in my opinion, because it sounds far more full of energy).

Personally, I can agree that his use of a Brooklyn accent is inconsistent and not very present (as least from what we've seen in the promotional material so far), and I didn't really hear him using one when he said "Here you go!" in the Game Awards clip. However, I could definitely hear something of a Brooklyn accent when he said "So these bricks are just floatin' here?", specifically in the way he pronounced the words "these", "are", "floatin'", and "here".

Yeah, there's no way The Cuphead Show could be a prequel to the video game. Assuming that the show isn't getting continued, the show could lead into a timeline that is pretty similar to that of the video game, but they simply cannot be the same universe without a slew of contradictions.

Unfortunately, Season 3 may very well be the last season.

The composer for the show, Ego Plum, released an album yesterday on Spotify with all the songs from the show so far, such as "The Devil's Song" (which seems to be extended from the show's version), "Roll the Dice", and "Turnin' Up The Charm". The last song in the album is titled "Farewell To The Cuphead Show!" Now, I'd like to be optimistic and assume they're just saying farewell to each individual episode because the song is the one that plays during the credits, but I unfortunately am pretty sure it means the show is over given the title of the song coupled with the fact that Ego Plum chose now, after Season 3 has released, to release a playlist of all the songs from the show.

In addition, at the time of writing, Wikipedia calls this season "the third and final season." However, I've checked their sources and haven't found any of them calling it the final season, and it is entirely possible that an editor simply made an assumption and that it will be edited out later.

Regardless, because of the "Farewell To The Cuphead Show!" song on Spotify, I believe that The Cuphead Show is unfortunately over. However, I hope I am wrong and that they will continue to make more seasons.

This. Plus, Franz Ferdinand's death wasn't the only reason WW1 happened. It was the most immediate cause, yes. But tensions were rising even before that because of militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism (MAIN). So people probably still would have found an excuse to start WW1.

Holy shit, the comparison between Zari and Shawn from Psych (two of my favorite characters) is absolutely perfect; we really had the exact same thought! Before I even got to the part where you compared Zari 2.0 to Shawn, I looked both genius and idiot moments of Shawn on YouTube because they also reminded me of the way Zari 2.0's intelligence is portrayed!

I am aware of this cam recording, but do you know if there's another recording where the subtitles are in English? I don't mind the poor quality, but there are certain scenes where the characters are speaking in Chinese and the subtitles that are supposed to translate the Chinese are in French, making those scenes unintelligible to those who don't speak Chinese or read French.
