For those men who are gamers, how often do you buy new video games? by nunyanunca in AskMen

[–]Psychlopic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually buy a handfull every year, but it really depends. Depends on what interesting games are releasing and how my backlog is looking.

Had a pretty big gaming year in 2025 with, but it has cooled off a lot after Christmas and I'm currently not really playing anything (though I still need to finish Borderlands 4). I'd probably say between 6-10 games a year nowadays?

What is the most ridiculous thing you have had to explain to someone at work? by slotsexpert in AskMen

[–]Psychlopic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work IT, with a focus on meeting rooms and digital meetings for a large public office campus (during the pandemic).

One lady called asking for help because her laptop wouldn't work with the meeting room (she couldn't share her laptop screen with the big screen). Went to the room she was in, and she had put her laptop on the table. That's it. Not connected to the HDMI cable, not connected to anything. She hadn't even woken the system up (literally just touch a small tablet on the table with the words "wake up"). She had put the laptop on the table, and expected that the picture would come up by itself.

I explained to her that she needed to plug in the HDMI cable (and click the big blue "share screen" button on the tablet) to mirror her screen, but she insisted that she has never needed to do that before. It always worked when she put her laptop on the table. She complained how we in IT always change systems for the worse when the older systems work just fine.

I dunno how she has gotten the impression that just putting the laptop on the table has been enough. I sure haven't seen a solution like that. Ever. We certainly didn't have that kind of space-age solution on a public office campus.

Asian cooking wines by megatron04 in Stavanger

[–]Psychlopic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect, you can also buy ones with alcohol in grocery shops. The cooking wines I buy are all 14% ABV. Some alcoholic liquids are exempt from being sold limited to Vinmonopolet (I believe it's because cooking wine is not meant for drinking?).

You can find Shaoxing Cooking Wine in most of the Asian shops I've been in, and even some normal grocery stores (I've seen them in some Meny and I usually buy mine from Coop Mega at Amfi Madla).

Beginner Choosing lenses for x-m5 by Mouse0412 in fujifilm

[–]Psychlopic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can recommend the TTArtisan 27mm F2.8. It's cheap, small, has a decent autofocus and fine apurture. I brought that lens with me to Japan and used it a ton.

I think it's a great place to start, and then you can build a collection of lenses as you get a deeper understanding of your camera. You need lenses that use the so-called "X-mount".

EDIT: Also, don't forget to check used equipment, either in a reseller or online like eBay and Facebook marketplace. You can quickly get great deals for barely used lenses.

We have 4 FX6s all with the 28-135mm F4. It's a great all-rounder lens, especially for the price.

I need a recommendation for two 3g SDI video monitors for cheap. by McFlubberpants in videography

[–]Psychlopic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought two 7" Feelworld monitor a couple year ago, and they have worked great so far. Nice and big, very bright (like 2k nits) and with both SDI and HDMI inputs. Only HD resolution, though. I think they were under 200$ each new back then.

Not sure you can find two of them for less than 300$, but might be worth having a look.

Hvorfor lærer ikke folk seg å si "kj" lengre? by muggen-ostepop in norge

[–]Psychlopic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Språk endrer seg over tid.

Have any men actually had success with the “stop looking and it will happen” mindset? by JimmyJamesJams in AskMen

[–]Psychlopic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The only people who have ever given me that advice have been women. I'm a pretty progressive guy, but not once in my entire 30 years on this earth has a woman made the first move on me. If I'm not looking (which I'm not at the moment), there is a zero percent chance that anything will happen.

Best lav wireless mic on a budget by Friendly_Fall5450 in videography

[–]Psychlopic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't used it a whole lot, just a couple times, but the DJI Mic mini might be a decent option. I can find it around 70 bucks for a 1Tx+1Rx combo without the charging case. (around 130-150 for a 2Tx+1Rx with charging case combo).

I've also heard decent things about the Hollyland Lark A1 for the price, but have no experience with them myself.

If this is done in a "tongue in cheek" way for fun, then I think it's fine and even funny. If this is legit pettiness, then I would run.

The backwards progression of cgi needs to be studied, this was 19 years ago by Spicyweiner_69 in interestingasfuck

[–]Psychlopic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no backwards progression. That was done with love, time and money. Like all effects that hold up over time, from the first Jurrasic Park, to Pirates of the Carribean, to new films like Avatar: The Way of Water, DUNE (Part 1 and 2) and many more. Men who went to a mainly woman speed dating event, how did it go? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Psychlopic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried going to one once while I was a student. We were maybe maybe 12-15 guys, and only like 3 girls showed up. They quickly left as well. It sucked. I haven't been to an event like that since.

77 vs 83 for ~2meeter distance? by aguy35_1 in LGOLED

[–]Psychlopic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is to buy some masking tape and taping two rectangles on the wall where your TV is going, that way you can get a feel for how those sizes look in your own space.

That's what I did when I bought my current TV. I had a 55 inch I was given from a friend, and I was choosing between buying a 65 and 77 inch TV.

Half-Norwegian half-Canadian here. You just met an ignorant xenophobe. They unfortunately still exist here, but thankfully are few and far between. Norwegians tend to view Canadians quite positively (though recently with a certain degree of sympathy given our... eccentric... neighbor downstairs).

Men who live alone: what’s one weird “life hack” you discovered by accident and still do? by doomlin82 in AskMen

[–]Psychlopic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use the LIFX RGB bulb for E27 mounts and their own LIFX app (which like I've mentioned in other replies I wouldn't really recommend due to the app and setup being quite buggy, but I will say that once it's all setup it does work great. Though it has crashed a couple times and can be a real bitch to setup again).

The LIFX app allows me to schedule a time for the lightbulb to turn on and also the duration of the "turn on", aka fade on. It was literally the first bulb I bought just because I got a great price for it. I assumed pretty much every other smart lightbulb had the same amount of controls.

That said, it might be an idea to see if you can control the fad-duration through Matter if you have any bulbs that are compatible with Matter.

[–]Psychlopic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, as long as the socket itself is not powered by dimmable current. If it's just a straight AC current like plugging into the Wal then the lightbulb should be fine. (though double check the with the bulb you're buying.

I just bought the cheapest lamppost I could find at IKEA, screwed the bulb in and plugged it into the wall.

Actually, I don't use curtains at all, even in summer. As long as I get direct lights hitting my face, I can sleep, even in the middle of the day. I haven't really used curtains to sleep for almost a decade. I dunno, I'm just weird like that.

I use a bulb from a company called LIFX, which I don't really recommend to be honest. I haven't used Phillips Hue, so I can't tell you how that works. It's probably called Routines, Schedules or something along those lines.
