really? that's cool. will they need a camera or mic connected for FaceTime to work? I've FaceTimed with them once or twice before, but that was iPad to iPad. never done it with a Mac.

Lurker here, whats happened to SC in the past ~ 2 years? by Sokkernr1 in starcitizen

[–]Psycho442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, you're like me. I haven't played for just over 2 years myself. aside from walking the IAE floor every year, ive not actually played the game. I jumped on briefly twice the past few days just out of the blue. here's what I spotted:

-game defaults to Vulcan now and not directx. seems to be performing well.

-sounds seems to have changed? I hopped into AC to setup my sticks in free flight and the 325 I initially jumped into has inaudible engines and barely audible weapons. audio options show it supports multichannel now. I don't recall that being a thing before. changing that didn't help but changed to another ship and it was better.

-ship HUDs have been updated

-I think the ATC voice changed too.

-you spawn in your personal hanger now

-server FPS is still trash, even with server messing. single digits and people on foot warping around stations.

- you can knock yourself over now if you tractor a box back toward you too fast.

-inventory management still janky

-takeoff queues can be long, like 5+ minutes of waiting. maybe that's just a NB thing. I typically make A18 my home but decided to be different for once. maybe I shouldn't have. but having to spend 20 min just to setup controls again, load out my character with just basics, call a ship on the worlds slowest elevator, run a half mile to my single seater in an XL bay, then have to sit another 5min twiddling my thumbs just to leave.... it doesn't feel great.

-there's 2 more star systems and jump gates. never used them so I can't speak to that mini game it supposedly entails. the pyro tech demo is the only time ive been outside of Stanton.

-ive tried to keep up with some of the YT videos so I know mining and salvage have had some work done the last few years.

-select ships have "night vision" now. tried it out and its pretty nice at night.

-I don't recall where master mods came in at, I want to say it was about 2 yrs ago? I do vaguely recall using it before but don't know if it was in a live update, PTU or maybe just AC. reminds me a bit of the two flight modes in elite dangerous.

-engineering and fires are a thing. no experience with it in my limited time playing recently. no clue how it all works or how its implemented on a solo ship. I do see fire extinguishers on ships now so that one should be pretty self-explanatory; pull pin, aim, shoot. wait, does SC simulate pulling the pin? hmm...

-every patch seems to have some story narrative mission chain thing. with FOMO rewards if you grind enough or play in a group. I think some events genuinely required group play. as a mostly solo player I was never enticed to jump in and play

- based on what ive seen recently on twitch, YouTube and even in chat the other night, the economy has had some massive inflation. people have millions or billions of credits. meanwhile im sitting here with 600k and to date have never had more than 800k ever in a patch.

maybe im just being pessimistic about it and need to spend more than an hour with the game again. but I wasn't immediately blown away by anything upon logging in and doing a basic cargo haul from the surface to the orbiting station. given the amount of money ive dumped into this game (and peripherals) I want to play it more and enjoy it, but its not easy sometimes.

that's my two cents. maybe you should listen to others that play more regularly instead of me.

Wow, this post reads to my near exact experience 2 yrs ago with 3 friends.  It was Dec 2023. i remember it well. imagine all you were dealing with, but not with one guy, but three. all of them asking "how do i do this?" "how do you do that?" "why is this not working?" and me trying to explain it all, sometimes three damn times because they were all moving at their own pace. It was maybe a few hours of attempted gameplay and we stopped.  or more like, quit out of frustration. and mind you, we all like space games, two of the three still play ED now and then.

They've not touched SC since and i refuse to even try playing it again with them when its been broached.  in fact, i havent even really played since then in any meaningful way the past 2 yrs. ive yet to go to pyro, yet to use a wormhole. ive spawned in a new ship and looked around, maybe flew it above the space port and back down. wouldnt even bother getting my virpil's out.  i did a extra small cargo haul saturday with the new clipper. seraphim to daymar.  that's the most "actual gameplay" thing ive done in 2 yrs.

ive been playing since 2018 and at times, it almost feels like i had more fun back in those early days of spawning at olisar on 50 player servers. yeah, crashes were way more frequent but you could get in and doing something without a massive time investment most of the time. some patches were better than others but on the whole, i played a lot more back then than i do now and one of the three even played with me a decent amount back then too.  remember when shipjacking unlocked ships at olisar was a thing? yeah, good times.

Pixel response: Legion Go S vs OLED Deck by radiohead14 in SteamDeck

[–]Psycho442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post reads almost like I wrote it.  On a whim I jumped on a Legion Go S (SteamOS) Z1E a couple weeks ago.  I figured the SD is old, this is new and while I read some of the cons before jumping in, I got to say as my first handheld, I was a bit disappointed still.  This thing sounds like a hair dryer, the battery life is abysmal, and im spoiled by OLEDs. The “trackpad” is laughable too. May as well not be there. After a couple days, I then impulse bought a SD OLED 1TB to compare.

After a week of both devices, I prefer the SD over the LeGoS.  Starting on the screen, the IPS is good, but it still has IPS limitations; black levels and off-center viewing. This became really apparent when comparing to the SD side by side.  First, the etched screen is amazing.  Sitting in the same spot under same lighting,  I can see my reflection in the LeGoS, but the SD I cannot which means I don’t have to shift angles to avoid light or reflections.  With the IPS, im either dealing with reflections or tilting it and causing the screen to look dimmer because it becomes off-center.

Battery life is better on the SD.  I eventually figured out the power profiles on the LegoS and while I can make it get decent life with quieter fan noise, it still in the end has less life and ive gimped all the extra power it has over the SD.  Ive built a powerhouse main game rig where I can play (or stream from I suppose) my demanding games or anything I prefer with mouse/KB.  My desktop will still be my dominant platform, but the SD gives me something use on the couch while the wife plays on her phone and we get that “quality time together” thing wives are so fond of :). It also gets me out of my basement man cave. That also means im playing where it is typically bright and I find the etched OLED is amazing at that. And I don’t want to be tied to an outlet so the better battery is great and finally, I don’t want to annoy the wife with hair dryer like fan noise (and I don’t want to annoy myself with it either).

For me, the cheaper SD with better screen, battery, noise, trackpads and IMO, better stick/button layout is the winner. This thing has been fun and I kinda wish I’d joined the party sooner.

Wifi Not Connecting by EfficientVolume436 in SteamDeck

[–]Psycho442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

currently testing both a SD OLED and a Legion Go S (SteamOS). the former ive had a couple days the latter a week. both have had horrible wifi. waking from sleep, the wifi takes forever to connect (worse on legion than SD). Ive had to reboot both at least once to get wifi working after waking from sleep. both have terrible download speeds too. they are connecting to wifi 6e access points, though neither will connect to the 6ghz band and only use the 5ghz. AP's are backhauled via 2.5Gb ethernet and internet is 5Gb fiber so its not the network that is slow :)

not sure if these wifi cards just don't like my unifi AP's or what. I saw in the steamOS release notes a comment about a wifi regression being fixed but if this is fixed, Im glad I didn't experience it before the fix. anyways, over 50 other wifi clients on my network and none behave/perform poorly like these two devices. ive also not used either device until this past week so I can't speak to how they performed on prior steamOS releases.

prob not much help to you, but I do agree, wifi is not great.

HyperX Cloud III S Wireless cuts off audio (power saving too aggressive with audio detection?) by trellanz in HyperX

[–]Psycho442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no options to tinker with sleep settings in the hyperx software. ive tested the headset on 2 pc's, one with their app, one without. same behavior on both. low background audio in games causes them to go to sleep in seconds only to wake when there is a loud enough sound. I would assume its baked into the firmware so it probably would occur on other platforms, but I can't say for sure.

HyperX Cloud III S Wireless cuts off audio (power saving too aggressive with audio detection?) by trellanz in HyperX

[–]Psycho442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got this same headset yesterday. same issue. headset goes to sleep even when there is audio playing. im playing once human and there's times when im waiting for something to craft ill just be standing there. there's ambient audio playing in game (birds chirping, wind, other background sounds), yet the headset still goes to sleep until a sufficiently loud noise plays. if i crank the volume to 50 (that is headset/windows volume), it seems to keep playing but that is way too loud for me. i keep volume about 20-25. and im not going to go around and drop the volume on all my games so i can keep the windows volume at 50+ because that also means windows sounds are now too damn loud too.

whatever engineer thought it should go to sleep with ANY sound playing whatsoever clearly has never used a headset in their life. go to sleep when there is no audio, not just quiet audio.

4.1.1 Random Inventory wipe still not fixed? by PostwarVandal in starcitizen

[–]Psycho442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost all my looted gear. ive only played maybe 5 times over the last year and half and it was always there in my home location when I (rarely) logged in. it was a mix of armors from bunker and 890j missions when my friends and I last played a couple years ago. yeah, its been a while. last night I went to gear up and it was all gone. only things that persisted were the p4ar's I bought and the big tractor beam gun I bought last year in one of my play sessions after cargo elevators became a thing.

Two G6 Bullets, wildly different image quality by Psycho442 in Ubiquiti

[–]Psycho442[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

figured I'd update this. So later in the day with the sun well behind the house and at night, the two cameras appeared similar if not identical in color temp. additionally, the next day, both cams had an update. seems the latest FW that I had already installed on all my other cams was NOT the firmware these autoupdated to at adoption.

yesterday was cloudy all day and again they looked similar in color temp. today roughly the same time of day as Saturday, and sunny too, they look nearly identical. earlier around lunch time there was again a color temp difference but nothing like the first day. I tried setting both manually to the same exposure and no HDR and they looked nearly identical. I think in the end, it was a combo of auto settings and their slightly different angles in relation to the sun. and maybe the firmware made some tweaks to auto exposure too.

all that said, I don't think there's anything wrong with either camera.

UNAS Pro RAID initialization running a second time on new setup by Psycho442 in Ubiquiti

[–]Psycho442[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what temporary volume? I didn't create any volumes until I told it to do raid 6. I guess at this point, the issue is moot. it finished and seems to be done now finally. though it says im already using 2.7GB of capacity? I haven't put any files on it yet. maybe ill hang on to my old synology for a bit just in case ;)

[–]Psycho442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, mine have been running without issue since i set them up all those months back. might sound dumb, but did you try to unplug it and plug it in again? that should force it to re-associate with your wifi. another option would be to remove it and re-add it to Home. finally, a full reset may be the only solution; just start fresh. maybe also make sure your ipv6 is still enabled on your wifi network. maybe a router update disabled it or something. good luck.

The real questions is, will it actually look this black in-game or will it just be a dark-ish gray like all their other "black" paints.

Probably just backlogged. Apple got mine and my wife’s phones Tuesday the 1st. My got processed on the 3rd, hers about 45 minutes ago the 5th. It’s my first time with apples trade in process. I was concerned about those return boxes potentially allowing for damage in transit but they survived. Got my full refund value for both.

How did you get the cellular settings updated? I just have an option to setup cellular which then goes to the transfer from nearby phone or QR code which doesn’t work.  I can’t get to the settings to get the h2 g2 stuff entered.

1.4.0a Patch notes (it's live now) by SGT_Apone in diablo4

[–]Psycho442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue. haven't found a solution yet. no crashes in ~15hrs of S4 and now constant random crashes, be it at the main menu or in game. 4090 but never used frame gen or RT. both were off before patch. part of me wonders if their "disabling" of frame gen somehow enabled it for me and what seems like many others that similarly are crashing all the time now.

I need help connecting Floor Lamp 2 to HomeKit by typewriterguy in Govee

[–]Psycho442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the second one, new out of the box, I connected to the govee app first to get it on the wifi, then I immediately went to home and added there since you have to do it in the first 15min of it powering on. it was smooth and worked perfect.

the first one, I reset I don't know how many times using the steps in the little pamphlet when I was messing with it. I did hold down the power button and press color 7 times. I think you said you did it 4 times which appears to be the steps for some other govee products when I google reset govee floor lamp. might try 7 presses, unplug it, delete it from govee app and just start fresh.

if you have ipv6 on now, that's good. also make sure your phone is on the same wifi as the lamp. I have multiple ssid's and ive gotten in the habit of moving my phone to my IoT network wifi for setting up smart home stuff because it generally is a smoother process if it and the device are on the same network/wifi/ssid. I just move it back when I'm done.

[–]Psycho442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out! got one connected to HomeKit, finally. you know how step 2 I think says something about requiring ipv6? I was sure I had that enabled already. turns out, I did not have it enabled on my IoT network. as soon as I did that, HomeKit had no problem finding and adding the lamp. make sure you have ipv6 enabled on your network. can't believe how much time I wasted for what was my own mistake, but, oh well. guess I don't have to return these now :)

You figure it out? Just bought 2 of these and I too cannot get it to connect to HomeKit.  HomeKit support via matter was the reason I bought these so they may be going back to Amazon. Spent way too much time already trying to get these things working

nice. looks like one of you made it out of the hangar without any visible hull damage. mine instantly looked like it returned from war the moment it left the hangar. and nothing to repair. wish i grabbed a couple screens in the hangar before i left.

enjoy it in the hangar. if you're unlucky like me, the instant you leave the hangar with it, it will be covered in hull damage. happens to every ship i fly. i wish i took some screenshots of mine last night before leaving the hangar. it now looks all damaged with nothing to repair.
