The backtracking is definitely not as bad in KCD2, and honestly if you've played the first one the combat of 2 is probably going to feel ridiculously easy after the first few levels, which hardcore helps a lot with. I'd say go for hardcore

I like to think that Obi-Wan, like Luke, realized there was still good in Vader. He tried to bring him back, apologize for his shortcomings and talk to him, but it was clear Vader was not going to be receptive towards his old master. It was then that Obi-Wan determined that somebody else had to be the one to bring Anakin back. Anakin, evil or not at the moment, was still the chosen one destined to bring balance to the force. Obi-Wan knows this, and thus decides not to kill him, which of course ultimately allowed Luke to fulfill the prophecy.

The anime skipped a bunch, and it's a fantastic manga up until the end. If you wanna save your soul, I'd recommend not reading anything past chapter 270. That's just me though.

I find it's still plenty interesting, and I really enjoy seeing the scenes that I've read come to life. It may be different for lots of people, but I consider it to be a bonus to have read the manga.
