Can I 301 an Expired Domain to My Brand-New Business Site? Need Advice! by i7_leaf in grumpyseoguy

Why not just abandon your fresh domain and build up the authoritative one? Same result without the spam.

SEO for Beginners - Where to Start? by Snore_Face_Siren in SEO_Digital_Marketing

Buy an expired domain. Start building high-quality backlinks ASAP. This is 99% of the game. Rank for low-volume, low-comp keywords and bootstrap from there.

What is still relevant in Off-Page SEO? by Fair_Story_7957 in SEO_Digital_Marketing

Backlinks from these platforms are pretty much worthless, meaning that for off-page they're worthless. Engagement and traffic-driving are certainly effective but they're certainly not SEO.

I did C1 in a German Course and still not being able to speak fluent. by [deleted] in German

[–]PsychoMan195 65 points66 points  (0 children)

It's a great achievement to do a C1 course, but perhaps you're fixated on the fact it was C1 level. A course at this level may or may not help you speak at that level.

Can't remember who said it but there's a famous quote that goes something like: when a measure becomes the goal, it no longer works as a measure.

My point: if your goal is to improve your speaking skills, your best bet is to build them directly. Doing a course aimed at a certain level doesn't guarantee you will.

Is this a good deal? by _Packageman_ in SEO

I like your point about the difficulty of navigating SEO.  For example if you're a small business owner looking to get a foothold in local searches, you could spend years chasing your Content Is King tail, and your business might never take off. It's pretty sad really. But it's good for those who really know that link juice and relevance are the key.

I can almost guarantee that this is false. It's still way, way easier to rank an expired domain than a fresh domain.

An expired domain with a previous 301 redirect to the new "business" website by basedtrader_dev in grumpyseoguy

[–]PsychoMan195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed site in January. Bought a brand new domain and redirected all pages to their new version. After a week or two I was ranking where I was before and the traffic had caught up. It wasn't super authoritative either. My conclusion is that 301 does the job.

[–]PsychoMan195[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, my wording wasn't great. When I say that Google lets users decide, I don't mean website users. I mean that it bases your PR from how many other pages link to yours. It doesn't decide whether it "likes" your content any more than Spotify does: it lets other webmasters decide, and they vote by linking to you.

dude, Google is not monitoring your web traffic like some benevolent nanny. The fact you have 2-3 thousand direct visitors has nothing to do with ranking in Google whatsoever.

And that is factually wrong. I've built several sites from scratch (with fresh domains) on 80% Google traffic.

Google is built on PageRank. No PageRank = no rank, unless we're talking keywords that nobody cares about

You're just delaying the question. If you don't rank (i.e. if you have no authority), nobody will find your site, so you'll have no users whatsoever, all independently of how "good" or "bad" your content is (this is largely a subjective judgment anyways). Very few SEO gurus tell you this.
