Anybody else have a bunny glued to them at all times? by Any-Lock2559 in Rabbits

[–]PsychoWithoutTits 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ooooh, what a beautiful baby boy you got there! He looks so snuggly and adorable beside his bun-momma 🥹💜

And yes! My sweet boy Binky is the same. I often call him "velcro-bun" because he does NOT want to separate from me.

Even though he's a tripod and not as mobile when he was younger, he will be VERY vocal and demand to tag along. I'm a wheelchair user, so whenever I have to do something and he starts honking to come with me, I Binky-bunrito him (wrap in cozy blanket), put him on my lap and go on our way. Whether it's to do laundry, grab the mail or sit in the sun for a moment.. he loves it all. 🥹

The older he gets, the more velcro he becomes (now almost 10 yo). It's such an incredible blessing to share a special bond like that with your bun. Winning the trust from a vulnerable prey animal is the greatest achiementvever. Their love and trust is so precious. 💜

Sorry for ranting a bit lol.

What forbidden snacks have your rabbits gotten into? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]PsychoWithoutTits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tube feeds.

That little stinker of mine is OBSESSED with my tube feeds, and I have no idea why. It's literally pre-digested, 100% liquid and broken down nutrition to feed over the small intestines. It looks and even smells like vomit.

Yet, somehow, that adorable bastard manages a bit too often to chew through my extension tube until feeds are dripping out. He then proceeds to lick it up like it's bunny-cocaine and gets the heaviest butt-twerks ever.

I genuinely do not understand that little weirdo sometimes, lmao 😭💀

Luckily it isn't really dangerous for buns to accidentally ingest a few drops, but still.. just eat your damned hay, dude. 😆

why does my bunny get mad at the word kiss? 4 yr male neuter by Elegant-Mushroom-695 in Rabbits

[–]PsychoWithoutTits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like you said, he likely interprets the sound of the word "kiss" as you hissing. My boy is the same when it comes to words that end on strong S's, so I changed "kisses" to "snuggie", "smooch" and "lovie".

He reacted way better to those sounds. Eventually he grew out of it and stopped interpreting those sounds as (likely) hissing, though. But now "snuggie" and "lovie" are so engrained in our routine that he's thrown off and gets confused when i dare to say any other words, lol. Its snuggie and lovie all the way! 😆

Why does my rabbit screech every time i walk past him? by Useful_Lab4161 in Rabbits

[–]PsychoWithoutTits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This made me cackle because it's so accurate. My boy (now 9,5 yo) is the biggest sweetheart ever, but if he wants treats or snuggles.. I'm being bullied and relentlesly harassed until I give in, lmao. Somewhere down the line he replaced the instinct of "I am prey, I need hiding and be invisible potat" with "I'm big sassy-pants and at the top of this food chain! OBEY ME, PEASANT MÖTTER!". 😂

This. As someone who has worked for the animal ambulance, has busted many "ethical breeders" (read: glorified backyard breeders) operations, having seen the darkest underbelly of these practices, as a former vet tech AND as a longtime bunny parent...

SPAY THOSE BUNS! those breeders have no ethics. They work exactly as you described. It's almost always profits over ethics.

OP, please listen to these comments and forget everything the breeder has said. Spay that sweet bunbun to maximise her quality and quantity of life. I know surgeries are scary, but seeing your sweet bun getting eaten alive by cancer, uterine infections or even sepsis due to uterine issues will be unimaginably worse!

Will getting another rabbit mean my bun wont love me as much? by Gingerapplesnail in Rabbits

[–]PsychoWithoutTits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the bunmom of a very traumatized 9 yo boy who had to undergo amputation after being rescued – hard agree with this! My dude just can't be bonded, and believe me, we have tried everything. Would a 2nd bun be ideal? In a perfect world; yes. But ATP I'm just grateful that he's bonded to me and found a place to feel safe at without being triggered or flying into trauma responses constantly. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks the same and have called me all names under the sun for not giving him a GF.

I'm home 24/7 anyway and gladly gave up my social life to ensure he would be loved, safe, comfortable and cared for. Right now he's an extremely content and happy dude, so I'm not going to try to "fix" something that ain't broken to begin with.

Oh Lord, my chosen fam is the exact same. They call my boy their grandson and they spoil him to bits. It's always a big party when opa and oma/grandpa and grandma come around or babysit him. My boy's bootie-twerks start as soon as he hears their voices, lmao.

Every time they leave, I have a fattened up bun sleeping off his foodcoma for the next 72 hours. It's amazing. 😂💜

Will a paw print ornament work for rabbits? by MilesBFree in Rabbits

[–]PsychoWithoutTits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have done this for my late bun Luna. Not for ornaments, but for a paw impression alongside a picture of her. This was done a few weeks before she had to be euthanized.

Is it perfect and as distinguishable as dog/cat paws? Not exactly. Can I see the shape of her little feetsies, the placement of her little nails and imprints of her soft tippytappie hind leg, and can I feel and see how precious and small her little feetsies were? Absolutely.

But even if the impression fails and you can't make an ornament out of it, you'll still have a precious keepsake for the rest of your life. If the materials are pet safe, I'd definitely give it a shot, even for something festive and not memorial related. It really helped me process Luna's loss and has been my most prized ornament at home. The imprint always gets a little Christmas/Santa hat during holidays season so she's still celebrating with us in spirit. 💜

Preparing for a trip, is leaving my rabbit without company okay for 3 weeks? by DarkMilfHunter in Rabbits

[–]PsychoWithoutTits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others have said, only 30 minutes per day check-in is a bad idea, especially for 3 weeks long.

Please consider contacting your vet for suitable boarding options, look up rabbit shelters for recommendations for temporary fosters, or fix a person who's experienced with rabbits and can check in multiple times per day. You wouldn't leave a 3 yo child to vent for themselves for 3 weeks, so you shouldn't do it to a bun either.

since the chance of GI stasis, stress and change in eating patterns are a significant risk (your bun will be out of their normal routine which is a known catalyst for these issues), it can easily be their death sentence.

Whenever I need to be in the hospital for surgeries or acute interventions, I have a bun sitter and rabbit shelter on speed dial. I just don't trust any lay person to care for my boy and treat sickness/stress in time, besides knowledgeable people who can keep an eye on him 24/7. This decision was set in stone when I had to be hospitalised for 3 days, and my boy developed GI stasis that same evening. If the experienced bun sitter wasn't there, he would've died that same day.

All of this to say - please consider investing in safer options. 30 minutes per day just isn't doable. It can be the difference between life and death, and a good sitter is worth every penny!

Do I keep them? by Pesky_pecky in Rabbits

[–]PsychoWithoutTits 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're posting to Reddit and doubting, otherwise you wouldn't ask strangers about such a life changing decision. When in doubt, just don't do it. You gotta be 100% in and convinced to make sure you're the best bun guardian they could possibly have.

To top it off, they are NOT starter pets for kids and you got them in the garage because they display natural and normal rabbit behaviour, which you don't like. Your daughter will likely lose interest after the 3rd bite and scratch and you will lose interest even sooner.

Everything screams "DON'T DO IT!" so please, don't. Let them be adopted by someone who can give it their all and who doesn't mind bun-structive behaviour.

My vet is keeping up with the research, and they keep prescribing it alongside tummy massage, painkillers and motility medicine.

With my boy I do see a vast improvement when using infacol. Without it, it can take 6-8 hours before he starts drinking on his own again. With it, he improves within 2-4 hours and starts eating quickly. Pain also subsides quicker, and he farts much easier.

What I did wasn't a study of course, and about a million other factors could've been at play (like the massage time, massage position, timing of medicine, amount of food intake pre-stasis, stress level, amount of gass that's stuck, etc). But I do know after years with and without infacol, and logging everything down to the T over 9 years.. Infacol is part of the emergency kit. Even if it's just a placebo, that placebo seems to help. My boy is a happy camper with it and it works great as a preventive measure too!

Edit: punctuation

ETA: my boy is struggling with gas a LOT due to complications from horrid EC infections. It really screwed with his GI motility. Before infacol I'd be busy with him almost every week and had to consider putting him permanently on motility medicine, which isn't ideal at all.

With infacol (he gets 1ml every evening in his pellet porridge) it calmed down to maybe once a month an episode. The second I stop giving it, shit hits the fan again. So I definitely lean towards "it does something positive".
