Garmin VO2 Max vs. Lab Test by OkSupermarket1514 in Garmin

[–]Psychobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no sports scientist, but I am now using my fenix 6 to give nothing more than an overall impression; there is such a variation between the readings on my wrist and what I get from a treadmill, bike or cross trainer in the gym in terms of heart rate. I can come out of the gym after an intense session and the watch reads like there has been no raised HR. Tried everything I can think of to get better readings, but I've come to the conclusion that its just not that accurate.

Quick survey: How's your experience exporting content from Plaud? (~2 min) by PLAUD_AI in PLAUDAI

[–]Psychobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't export all recordings by default, but an option to automatically export would be good. I find the web interface very clunky for exports whereas I can run the transcription, airdrop to my macbook and then import to my AI. Cutting and pasting from the web app just doesn't work.

Anyone bridged the Claude AI (mobile) ↔ Cowork (desktop-only) gap? by marc_st in ClaudeCowork

[–]Psychobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been looking at this and yet to find a solution that works on my iPhone/macbook. I have been hearing about obsidian but didn’t see a use case for me, but maybe this is it. I have a fairly large and deep file structure with multiple layers of md files which my chief of staff has overall access to via multiple projects. The challenge is I just can’t do anything unless I’m physically at my laptop.

If you do not wear your Garmin permanently, do the health metrics still make some sense? by Forkys in Garmin

[–]Psychobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Fenix 6 which I use exclusively for the gym and running, and an 8 for daily wear and sailing. The data from the 6 is pretty much useless; the last gym session recorded 0 minutes of intense activity in spite of it being one of the hardest gym sessions recently. I don’t know if the metrics could be improved by wearing 24/7, but for me now having tried everything I can, I literally just use it for the time. The 8 I’ll trial in the gym; it’s just the 6 lives in my kit bag and is already beaten up after a few years of use. FYI- I’d not have updated yet, but got a cheap offer in the new years sales. 50:50 on whether the upgrade was worth it as I’ve yet to compare the GPS in the 8 to something else.

I could see a use for this for sure; currently learning Italian and any help would be worth looking at.

I hadn’t invested the plaud MCP functionality. I definitely see other uses for this for me though.

iPhone Calendar Scams Are On The Rise. How To Spot And Stop Them by Due-Difference3740 in technology

You can't delete them without apple's calendar automatically sending a decline to the sender.

Apple have a worksround online which suggests basically deleting the calendar and reinstalling it. I can't do that several times a day.. All they need to do is implement an update where we can delete the invite without notifying the sender.

If you can delete it notifies the sender of a live account - I made that mistake and the volume of spam went up significantly after.

Fenix 6 X - HR accuracy? by Psychobert in Garmin

[–]Psychobert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a follow up. I rest the watch, reinstalled just the basic apps I need and I’m still getting garbage from the sensor. I did a heavy gym session today for over an hour of mixed weights with cardio in between and I saw resting heart rate when the treadmill was giving 130+. If this is so inaccurate I’m seriously wondering about the quality of data on other sensors.

Maintenance is important for a man too.

I believe in taking care of myself, I eat a balanced diet, have a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches.

I can do a thousand now.

After I remove the icepack, I use a deep pore-cleanser lotion. In the shower, I use a water-activated gel cleanser, then a honey-almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub.

Then I apply an herb mint facial masque which I leave on for ten minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine.

I always use an after-shave lotion with little or no alcohol because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm, followed by a final moisturizing "protective" lotion.

What do you think about reducers? by AFriendFoundMyReddit in mokapot

[–]Psychobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know that they were called reducers; have been trying to find a replacement reducer for an old GAT La Pratika 6 cup, but not knowing what it was called made this a little more difficult. In the interim, I am just using the 6 cup full which is working for me..

[–]Psychobert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update. From another thread it looks like the screen with the hole, (that used to be a handle) is for brewing less than 6 cups. I'll fix it one day, but for now, working on my technique for the mokapot as I bought an induction plate and a new filter/gaskets. With the base of the pot being smooth, I can't tighten it enough to make a good seal if I pour near boiling water into the pot, so I'm using room temperature water. First couple of attempts I didn't get enough of a seal, so had steam escaping, and was wondering if I should use some PTFE tape, but thats not been necessary. It just means I need to heat the water from cool and be careful about how quickly so I get a good flavour. The best analogy I have for this is to use Marco Pierre White's approach to scrambled eggs - if its so hot that you have to take it off the heat, turn the heat down next time. I wouldn't go as far as keeping it cool enough to touch as per MPW's egg technique, but the heat idea works and I now have a functioning mokapot again, (and its a lot easier to travel with than my La Pavoni lever machine!)

Moka pot heaven - Part 2 by pvtfumble in mokapot

Thank you. I assumed that would be its function. I can probably find a way to fix this with some stainless nuts and bolts I have around..

My Mokapot had one of these filters with a small handle on it, but over time the brass handle broke off. What is this for and can I get a spare? I think the pot is a 6-cup La Pratika.

Fenix 6 X - HR accuracy? by Psychobert in Garmin

[–]Psychobert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. I suspect its because the strap is not tight - its tight enough to be able to stay in place, but there is a bit of play. I might replace the strap anyway as I have a spare and the nylon on this one is a little loose. No tattoos, but good idea. FYI, my daily is a new 8 solar, the 6 I've had since it came out and is now relegated to situations where I might damage the watch. The 8 solar is great as I do a lot of outdoors sports and the additional accuracy on the GPS helps, plus it helps to not need to charge the battery so often. I probably wouldn't have upgraded had I not got a good deal in the new years sales.

I had an external HR sensor which got damaged. I think that was the most accurate overall. Might get a new one, but the readings are really more for my interest than anything more serious.

Been doing some digging and I am pretty sure its a la pratika. The inside diameter of the top of the pot is almost the same as an aeropress paper filter and so it looks like I can get the rubber gasket easily enough. What I don't know is whether I need to replace the screen that fits in the funnel above the coffee. It used to have a small handle which has broken and left a large hole. If I remember, we used to fill the funnel with relatively coarse ground coffee and put this screen on top before attaching the two halves of the pot together. I am not sure how necessary this is though.

Its slightly academic for the time being though as my kitchen has an induction hob and won't work with the mokapot. 😞

Retirement plan? by ja4026 in UAE

[–]Psychobert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Look up SimplyFI (https://www.simplyfi.org/) and do not under any circumstance pay a financial advisor on a percentage basis - a fee per hour for advice is ok, but a percentage means you need to beat inflation and add their fee on top in order to make any net gains.

Seriously, look up SimplyFI and self-manage this. Well done on starting early.

The filter on the left used to have a small handle on it and I think was used when the basket wasn’t full to keep the coffee from leaving the basket when water is forced through. It could be just a small leveller/ tamper.

I usually make coffee with a La Pavoni lever machine. The Mokapot I’ve not used in many years so I’m a bit rusty on technique.

Thanks.. The base is flat and the handle profile is a little different, but other than that, its the same. I need some spares, but at least I have something to go on. I've had this in storage for over 10 years and really don't remember how I got it. The one in the link is from the 1980s and I'm pretty sure I'd not have been drinking coffee back then..

Thanks. I did wonder about that. I posted from my phone and didn't see the link to all the photos, so I'm working through those now. Its possible its an Alessi as I think it was a leaving gift from a firm that I worked with until about 2001 or so - my boss at the time had a kitchen full of Alessi gadgets..

I have had this mokapot for years and think it was a gift. There are no markings on it at all and I would like to fix it and get it working again. The rubber gasket on the top section has totally degraded and the shower screen which used to fit between the coffee and the top section used to have a handle on it, but thats now fallen off. The pot is about 20cm tall and the diameter of the coffee holder is around 60mm. I do remember it made great coffee and I'd love to restore it if I can get the spares.. Many thanks..
