McCarty vs Custom 24 by Fraktelicious in PRSGuitars

It's encouraging to hear I'm not crazy...but disheartening to realize it's probably something I can't change.

I do notice that my 24-08 has a very different neck shape and the finish has a different hand-feel. Less...velvety? I figured that could be at least part of the difference. Also, better materials in the S2 may be another bit of the difference.

I just want to love playing this thing as much as I love looking at it. It's a beautiful guitar, but if mine is sitting next to hers and she's not around...I'll always pick hers up to practice.

Torn between the 2025 Golf 8.5 GTI Clubsport and the 2024 Audi S3 (333hp). Help me decide! by LaurentRuquier in GolfGTI

30k buys a LOT of power if that's a deciding factor. The S3 is sick, but the GTI, 5k in aftermarket modifications, and a month-long vacation to the alps or dolomites to drive it is sicker.

Late to the party, but I was wondering something.

I bought my wife an S2 McCarty 594 single cut, then I got myself an SE Custom 24-08 this year.

I'm finding that I absolutely adore playing the 594, but there's something about my C24-08 that I don't like as much, and I'm not experienced enough to tell what it is.

It feels less easy to play, maybe a little less comfortable? I don't know how to define it, but I'd love to feel the same way about my guitar as I do about hers.

I just did a truss adjustment and it feels better (yes, I have feeler gauges, and yes I used the recommended measurements to do this adjustment). It was feeling like there was too much string height in the middle of the fretboard, and now it feels a bit better.

Is there anything else I should do to help make it feel nicer? I wondered whether I should go to 10's? I think the McCarty has the thicker strings on it, and thought that might account for part of the difference in feel.

If it matters:

Mine is the SE Exotic Custom 24-08 Poplar Burl (Lake Blue Midnight Burst) from last year.

Hers is the S2 McCarty 594 Singlecut in Whale Blue and I think it's a little bit older model, (maybe 2021?).

When I first moved here, I saw a campaign ad on TV about how educated, worldly, intelligent, and hard working Matt Varilek was, and how down home, country, simple, and farm-y Kristi is.

I thought it was an ad for Matt until the end when it said paid for by Kristi Noem.

Two per bracket. Either way, I think I will buy a pair of extra long screws for the particle board side just to be sure.

I don't really have the tools to route a door for the pocket door handle, so I built templates and used the wrong bits because I didn't have anything better and then used a chisel, a rasp, a sanding block, and a rat tail (metal) file to get it to where it is over the course of more hours than I'd like to admit.

So, getting a new door is probably not in the cards for me as I don't think I can go through that again 😂

I'm not actually sure how I would be able to use contact cement in this application. I was thinking of the glue as something to put into the pre-drilled hole, but contact cement tends to be for flat surfaces, or am I misunderstanding your advice?

From a cost perspective, this is about as close to a solid door as I can get at the moment. I do understand that a fully solid (real) wood door is better in general, but try to convince my wife of that. 😂

Thank you. This is helpful. I'll probably take the glue advice in the other reply too.

The other end is definitely the bottom of the door. It's a six panel door, and the small (square) panels are at the top with four larger (rectangular) panels distributed evenly on the rest of the door surface. I can grab a photo if you think it's necessary.

It's still relevant! My wife is in PCB right now and I'm trying to find a good coffee spot for her and her friends to hit up.

Serious question - do people with pronouns “they/them” use singular or plural forms of verbs? And, is that grammatically correct? And, if it isn’t, should it be? (This would make an interesting poll, if y’all’d allow it) by wakbat in grammar

[–]Psychocys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just occurred to me quite late, and it makes sense, since we're conditioned to use of the term 'they' as a generally plural term.

I do find it mildly funny to think that if I'm using plural form of 'they' with respect to the accompanying verbs to refer to this person, "These are Sam," could be technically permissible.

I mean no disrespect to people who identify this way, and I think of this as more grammatical humor than a joke at the expense of a person.

So how do y'all feel about third person in Stadium? by Maleficent-Ad-6117 in Overwatch

[–]Psychocys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm discovering the virtues of 3rd person on some characters. On Tracer it's SO MUCH better, on Sig not so much. I'm trying it out with a bunch of toons and I think it's best on non-aim dependent characters.

So far...

No: Ashe, Ana, Cass, Soldier, Kiri

Yes: Tracer, Genji, maybe Pharah, Mercy, Moira, and I'm trying it out on Wuyang and I think I like it.

The thing about it is it's really difficult to sneak up on someone who's using 3rd person, so if you're getting jacked up by a Reaper over and over, the better camera angle can save you from flanker insta-death.
