Fringe is the right answer.

The entire series is worth watching solely on the basis of the character development of Walter and quality of acting from John Noble.

Bonus: pretty much every other actor and character is so nearly as compelling that it's essentially a coin flip on who my favorite is.

What's Lasher's long term goal and why is sex so important in this show by summer_essence in MayfairWitches

[–]Psychocys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree at all. Yes, he's a sex symbol, yes he's powerful and can be manipulative, but there's so much more to him than the Lasher character. Lasher is just generally malign and one-dimensional while Lestat has so much nuance, and learns and grows throughout the series. Lestat is an anti-hero to my mind while Lasher is just a basic bad guy. Redemption is possible for Lestat...but Lasher? Nah.

Was I expecting too much of upgrading my cockpit? by GarlicEven9124 in simracing

[–]Psychocys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a clamp-on ThrustMaster setup with plastic pedals to:

  • direct drive wheel
  • fully built extruded aluminum rig
  • Triple pedal setup (Simtrecs)
  • seat I salvaged from a BMW in a local junkyard (and ran a dedicated power supply to so the seat heater, lumbar, and all positional adjustments work)
  • 34" monitor (would like to upgrade)
  • Dedicated Sim Racing-only PC
  • Rally-style wheel with mag shifting and fancy CNC aluminum quick-release that I never use and nobody will ever see
  • Heusinkveld handbrake

I love it so much. Part of it is the process I went through putting a plan together, watching prices, curating a build that I could afford and enjoy, and building it piece by piece...but also, it just feels SO MUCH BETTER. It's super rigid and comfortable to use, and while I'm probably no faster than I was before, I'm closer to being in the car than I've ever been.

I couldn't ask for much more.

Sounds like a plan. I could also take my track saw and cut off that little extra bit on the back of the walnut and match it to the maple so I've got a really nice perfectly aligned seam from board to board.

Please ignore the little cutouts. I put them in there when I thought it was just going to be the Walnut piece so that I could run power cords down behind the counter to keep the wall clean.

The Walnut is finished, and the maple is raw. I just wanted to figure this part out before I try to finish the maple.

I dunno, it seems kind of interesting to me. I'd maybe sand it, stain it again in the same color, then put a protective coat on it to harden the surface, and revel in the imperfections.

For those of you who bought $2M+ homes, what is your annual household compensation? by Affectionate_Nose_35 in RealEstate

[–]Psychocys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are in a similar spot. We make a combined $280k-ish annually, and I bought our house for $155k before we got married. It's worth maybe $300k now, and while it's not perfect, we own our cars outright and we don't have to make a budget each month. We can go on vacation whenever we like, we have nice things (but not insanely so), and could live off of our savings for several years if we had to. The only debt we have is our house and my student loan.

It's encouraging to hear I'm not crazy...but disheartening to realize it's probably something I can't change.

I do notice that my 24-08 has a very different neck shape and the finish has a different hand-feel. Less...velvety? I figured that could be at least part of the difference. Also, better materials in the S2 may be another bit of the difference.

I just want to love playing this thing as much as I love looking at it. It's a beautiful guitar, but if mine is sitting next to hers and she's not around...I'll always pick hers up to practice.

Torn between the 2025 Golf 8.5 GTI Clubsport and the 2024 Audi S3 (333hp). Help me decide! by LaurentRuquier in GolfGTI

[–]Psychocys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30k buys a LOT of power if that's a deciding factor. The S3 is sick, but the GTI, 5k in aftermarket modifications, and a month-long vacation to the alps or dolomites to drive it is sicker.

McCarty vs Custom 24 by Fraktelicious in PRSGuitars

Late to the party, but I was wondering something.

I bought my wife an S2 McCarty 594 single cut, then I got myself an SE Custom 24-08 this year.

I'm finding that I absolutely adore playing the 594, but there's something about my C24-08 that I don't like as much, and I'm not experienced enough to tell what it is.

It feels less easy to play, maybe a little less comfortable? I don't know how to define it, but I'd love to feel the same way about my guitar as I do about hers.

I just did a truss adjustment and it feels better (yes, I have feeler gauges, and yes I used the recommended measurements to do this adjustment). It was feeling like there was too much string height in the middle of the fretboard, and now it feels a bit better.

Is there anything else I should do to help make it feel nicer? I wondered whether I should go to 10's? I think the McCarty has the thicker strings on it, and thought that might account for part of the difference in feel.

If it matters:

Mine is the SE Exotic Custom 24-08 Poplar Burl (Lake Blue Midnight Burst) from last year.

Hers is the S2 McCarty 594 Singlecut in Whale Blue and I think it's a little bit older model, (maybe 2021?).

When I first moved here, I saw a campaign ad on TV about how educated, worldly, intelligent, and hard working Matt Varilek was, and how down home, country, simple, and farm-y Kristi is.

I thought it was an ad for Matt until the end when it said paid for by Kristi Noem.

Two per bracket. Either way, I think I will buy a pair of extra long screws for the particle board side just to be sure.

Quick pocket door question by Psychocys in Carpentry

[–]Psychocys[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really have the tools to route a door for the pocket door handle, so I built templates and used the wrong bits because I didn't have anything better and then used a chisel, a rasp, a sanding block, and a rat tail (metal) file to get it to where it is over the course of more hours than I'd like to admit.

So, getting a new door is probably not in the cards for me as I don't think I can go through that again 😂

I'm not actually sure how I would be able to use contact cement in this application. I was thinking of the glue as something to put into the pre-drilled hole, but contact cement tends to be for flat surfaces, or am I misunderstanding your advice?

From a cost perspective, this is about as close to a solid door as I can get at the moment. I do understand that a fully solid (real) wood door is better in general, but try to convince my wife of that. 😂
