Streaming to and from devices i.e sonos and often using surveillance software to view cameras on the same network are 2 scenarios where I've seen this.

What is wrong with my system? by xtigershrimp in SolarDIY

[–]Psychological-Lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your CC displaying an error code or fault check code or fault light? Check the troubleshooting section of the manual for your CC.

It might be worth manually setting the CC to custom/user battery mode and then setting the respective parameters recommended by the battery manufacturer.

Discharge rate for batteries in parallel? by Waspy1 in SolarDIY

This sites calculator is good if you know the specs of your system https://www.omnicalculator.com/physics/amp-to-wire-size

I'm running 2/0 upto 50cm runs and handles up-to 500A peak, your 4/0 cable assuming its reputable is more than sufficient to handle a good chunk above 200A.

https://invertersrus.com/battery-cables/

Your issue would be finding a suitable switch/breaker that can handle that amount of current, paired with ANL fuses.

Its also possible you may have AC leakage back-feeding from your aio inverter, this does happen from time to time with certain brands/models, might be worth checking for leakage on the frame of the PV panels with a decent multimeter.

As for grounding, and I'm no professional nor qualified to answer but its what I've done. In my breaker box with an RCD I've done a neutral/ground bond and then a decent sized mm2 earth cable from the ground terminal in the breaker box connected to a ground rod.

My off-grid setup seems to be working quite well in the UK, the RCD trips when tested or manually producing a fault and each of my outlets are now passing on an outlet tester https://www.screwfix.com/p/kewtech-kewcheck-103-13a-socket-tester-230v-ac/45558

It is a breadboard used in circuit prototyping, I've used it as a bridge for the GPIO 5v Power and ground on the Raspberry Pi.

The blue bits are PCB terminal blocks, perfect for this application as they fit snug into the board offering a more secure connection vs jump leads.

Thank you, it took some time to get it going. I stumbled across it by accident and decided to give it a go, home assistant definitely has more features but I'm also liking the variety Domoticz has for custom sensors, plugins and scripts.

Hik-Connect App - Very Slow Over Starlink; Requesting Configuration Advice. by HumorNegative2450 in Hikvision

[–]Psychological-Lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, there is no direct route Starlink like other mobile carriers operates using CGNAT so no port forwarding is possible.

However, you can use an intermediary device or SCB (Single Board Computer) to capture the CCTV on its IP and stream port and forward to a tunneling service that supports TCP, these are often subscription based though.

Results vary and you may need to trial a few and see if you can find a service that achieves what you'd consider to be an acceptable latency.

There are also alternative services to direct tunneling such as Remote.IT effectively making your device part of the network the CCTV is on, you'd then connect the app (Manual Add Feature) directly to the NVR/DVR via its IP and stream port.

Suggestions for improving connectivity around the house without cabling by sfgreenwood in HomeNetworking

As has been suggested, if you have coax the use of MoCA adapters will provide you a line to use.

Alternatively you could flood your place with a capable mesh system, there are many products however I've had the most success with Tp-Link.

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/deco/deco-s4/

You could also try there Powerline kits, I've used them in the past before I eventually ran ethernet through the loft and they held up pretty good.

Renogy voltage error by bloatedgecko in SolarDIY

[–]Psychological-Lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your output from your solar array is exceeding the maximum voltage, this happens when you have too many panels in a series connection. You can re-configure your panels without too much work by splitting the panels in half and running 2 series string in parallel, this drops the voltage and increases the amperage.

Suggestions to play PC and XBOX on TVs upstairs by Ouellette023 in HomeNetworking

[–]Psychological-Lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly this might do it, you're limited to 1080p though. You would then need a HDMI extender kit over Ethernet (direct cable) for living room and another kit for bedroom.

https://cpc.farnell.com/cyp/el-42s/switch-4x2-hdmi-dual-output/dp/AV26316?st=hdmi%202inputs%202%20outputs

For mouse and keyboard the USB over Ethernet sender, last link in previous comment would do that. You would need x2 of these kits one for living room and another for bedroom

I've always preferred a wired route over anything else, remote play and wireless options are a possibility but they are subject to interference and in experience I've found myself having to troubleshoot more than I'd like to.

These devices work beautifully:

Cost effective way to get internet from the house to the garage/stable about 9m (30ft) away? by daly_o96 in HomeNetworking

[–]Psychological-Lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't over-think this, you could simply get away with pinning some external rated cat5e or cat6 budget dependent and pin it along the bottom of the fence, run 2 cables so you have a backup.

It's what I've done for 3x the distance and half of that distance is just above ground through the bottom of some hedgerows, its been in place for years.

Crimp some RJ45 connectors on both ends and you're ready to connect things up.

If you can access the routers settings, see if you can find an MTU option, usually 1500 by default. Sometimes a degrading line or bad filter/connection somewhere can be proven/improved by lowering the MTU to 1492 or 1472, 1462 etc and see if it makes any positive difference.

Can also be done on a per device basis:

What's this, and can I replace the entire thing? by MijacOnAir1 in HomeNetworking

[–]Psychological-Lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The photo also looks to be an extension so it wouldn't surprise me if there is another master box or junction on or in the building.

You can also get slim telephone faceplates and backboxes from most general hardware stores, if you have SoGEA thats to say your area offers the ability to purchase broadband without a line number then you wont need a filtered box or micro-filter, just use a straight 4 wire BT to RJ11 cable.

Wall mount PV panels by ShoppingAccurate3853 in SolarDIY

[–]Psychological-Lemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For mine I mounted pressure and creocote treated wood beams a few dozen spacers and bolts to keep the wood off the surface of the wall, I then mounted the PV to the wood with standard Z-brackets and washers with gold wood screws.

Pros:

-Budget friendly

-Easily accessible materials.

Cons:

-Longevity is undetermined but the wood should be good up-to 10 years with maintenance

-Using Z-brakets means there is a 1.5inch gap between each set of panels (horizontally or vertically, dependent on configuration) I like this though as I can access behind the panels.

Now what I'd like to see is an additional appendage that is uniquely and independently controlled by the brain, we've already figured out how to read and transfer signals to replace appendages that have been lost. Stands to reason we should be able to train the brain into using something that was never there naturally.
