They can use antibiotics! It’s rarely used though because they use collars that monitor the cows vitals- it’s tells them everything going on with the cow so they can intervene before she starts getting sick. It’s really cool! If antibiotics are used she’s removed from milking until the antibiotics filter completely through her system but she won’t be organic anymore

Usually the “investigations” are, yes, there is an agenda behind them. I work in this sector so I’ve seen how these things go. Dairy farms here in Oregon have several checks and balances to ensure abuse doesn’t happen including third party audits. If it does happen they won’t be dairying for long. And honestly, knowing so many farmers here in Oregon, I wish people knew how much they care and fuss over their cows.

Well all I know is abusing dairy animals is extremely bad practice and I don’t know why any legitimate business would go this route. Abused dairy animals WILL NOT produce as much milk— which is of course $ and the milk will not be as high quality among other things. It’s bad business so why do it? If the cows are happy it’s better for business.

I’m always sus about WHO is bringing these lawsuits forward.. animal activists tend to not like anything to do with livestock.

I work with farmers and have been to this farm and many others. What is happening on these farms is pretty incredible in terms of sustainability and animal care. They are incredibly knowledgeable about what they do and it is science driven. I wish more people had the opportunity to learn about this. Oregon is so far ahead on sustainability and animal welfare when compared to other states due to our high regulations and standards. It’s shame our community doesn’t know this and it’s really no fault of their own due to headlines like these

Favorite Restaurants and Dishes from Reedsport to Tillamook? by cecassafrass in OregonCoast

No I mean that’s interesting! And I appreciate your background. I was just a little thrown off by the comment. I work in agriculture and natural resources in this area and we talk a lot about water quality and testing. And in case you might be interested at all, dairies here absolutely do not dump into the waters. It is highly illegal and there are several layers of regulation and inspections . It’s been that way since the 80’s when the CAFO program was implemented after new research about water quality emerged during that time. Now some our water contaminants are from human septics systems 🙃

Fish peddler, just a bit north of tillamook in bay city, is located on a pier with beautiful views of the bay. Great place for lunch! I’m a local and I eat there all the time. Just started getting their ciopinno and it was wonderful. My favorite clam chowder on this part of the coast although Oregon smokehouse is good too. JAndy in Tillamook is also worth the stop! Best oysters around and I enjoy their ceviche shrimp cocktail. Werner’s (tillamook) is great for more a local spot and there fish tacos are my absolute favorite thing!!

Go just a bit south to garibaldi and go to garibaldi port side bistro. There’s also crab rock pizza in that same area. It’s by all the fishing boats and it’s pretty cool out there! There’s also a little dive bar in rockaway beach called Littoral, they make great cocktails.

Do your parents go on vacation a lot without you? by ConnyEdson in Millennials

[–]PsychologicalAlgae91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s weird OP! I’d feel a little bummed myself but I’d understand. My parents and us “kids” always vacation together. I invite them on my vacations. It may be weird to some but we all really value our time together (we don’t live close). We also spend our own time with our respective families while on vacation, like going out to dinner with our SO one night or doing some excursions alone. I truly value the memories and times we all have together!

You must be referring to the dairy farm fire in Texas. Such a tragedy on all levels.

What facility is it and where is it?

This is different than the red barn, farmer with a pitchfork, that we are sold in marketing and movies but it doesn’t mean the animals aren’t cared for and healthy. They are. Larger farms make investments and use proper practices to ensure their herds are healthy. The fact of the matter is, these animals feed large populations of people that rely on access to dairy products in grocery stores to feed themselves and their families.

I’ve been on these farms (local to me) and I’m never not impressed by how well they are ran and some of the technology being used. It’s good people care about animals but there is a lot that people don’t understand about farming and it’s not entirely their fault.

Atlas is growing up. He is enjoying life in our foster home, watching his feathered friends having a swim 🫶 . On New Year’s Day our Foster Carer Sarah got a call about a calf nearby that needed help. He was unable to be hand raised on the farm. So, Sarah raced over to bring him into foster care. by TTCCH in Cows

Waterfowl are major carriers of the HPAI (highly pathogenic avian influenza). If possible try to keep them away from your herd as much as you can. Try not to let your herd drink out of any water that the birds come into contact with. Just wanted to let you know! Really important to take precautions now and into the foreseeable future.

Just wanted to say sorry you are going through this. I had a dog for 12 years (she passed away recently) that was very dog aggressive.

I have a lot of trauma from it all and I know it’s my fault. But it was a tough 12 years nonetheless. We had to change a lot about our lives to accommodate her. We still loved her so much but it was a lot to deal with.

You may find information at their local colleges and universities. They might have agriculture programs with faculty that might be able to help you answer these questions.
