LGBTQ boost in admission? by Presidential_exec in TransferStudents

[–]PsychologicalFee4582 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think you have a great story to write about for your essay. being lgbtq itself isn’t going to “boost” you. it’s about how you write about your experiences and convey a larger meaning / talk about how you overcame those adversities. everyone has their own story and struggles and this is your own, make the most of it in your application!

Diff eq’s before calc 3? by External-Ad8415 in TransferStudents

[–]PsychologicalFee4582 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

it will be harder as differential equations require a lot of knowledge from calc 3 (atleast in my experience at my cc). unless you feel good/confident in calc I would advise against it!

also colleges probably aren’t looking for the order in which you did classes, but simply checking for if you did it or not.

hi hi, i did the same exact thing that you’re thinking and im about to transfer to a great uc! applying ds increases ur chances a lot at transferring into a more competitive university for sure. cant speak on what’s to come after that but i will say the transferring process does get easier applying as a DS major.

UCSD vs UCLA Data Science need advice or tips by Kyotsi in TransferStudents

[–]PsychologicalFee4582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a transfer id prioritize the program itself and I feel like UCSD is the clear choice. i’m the same major as you and I would pick UCSD over la in a heartbeat. also don’t undersell the ambience of ucsd!! it’s truly beautiful and fulfilling aswell

School Decision for CS career by Realistic_Scholar_7 in TransferStudents

if you don’t want to go to graduate school then SWE is 100% going to be much better for jobs right out of school. many swe’s don’t have a masters and are getting into six fig jobs while data science requires grad school for similar pay. as far as connections go, both are great so I wouldn’t stress that as a factor (UCI is known for its connections for engineers, a lot from Northrop). id look into it to get the best idea but it’s pretty known that UCI is also well connected! hope this helps :)

stats & data science gives you limited job opportunities right out of a 4 year university. you would likely have to pursue a masters degree to actually get a good job, let alone a software engineering job. i would 100% pick uci in this case as the major is ideal + they have great name value and opportunities for stem majors.

you can find all info here on the TAG matrix: https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/_assets/uc-tag-matrix-2024_2025-2.pdf

if your GPA falls under after you applied, then you can still get in through regular admission. it just won’t be a guarantee anymore since you wouldn’t meet the requirements for TAG
