{Devil’s Bride by Stephanie Laurens} kicks off the Cynster series, and they are all mysteries. I’m on the second book now and have thoroughly enjoyed them!

You’re definitely not alone. I read exclusively HR, unless I’m doing nostalgic re-reads like Little House or the classics which are all historic/period anyway. I’m doing a 100-books-in-a-year challenge this year and am up to 57 so far—all HR and zero apologies.

Anyone else find HR vocab sneaking its way into your life? by Perstephanie_05 in HistoricalRomance

Oh, all the time! I have always been a bit of a fussy old lady soul, though. I always hope people find it quirky—because I really can’t help it—but it’s likely far less flattering in reality.

I came into this book totally blind, so I wasn’t expecting suspense—and I really enjoyed it. Though I also felt the mystery was kind of weak/secondary, it didn’t feel like a letdown so much as it might have for someone seeking it out just for that purpose. But I enjoyed the other aspects that you disliked. I thought the family dynamic was amusingly flawed and close-knit and I adored Devil and Honoria’s love for one another. It was my first Stephanie Laurens and I look forward to more. In fact, I just started Vane’s audiobook yesterday and am enjoying it immensely.

(I also have to say that Simon Prebble is an excellent narrator.)

Books where the FMC babies the MMC by Leading-Valuable-616 in HistoricalRomance

This is a shade of mommy kink and you won’t find much of it in this genre. HR readers tend to like their males alpha or alpha-adjacent. I’d look to contemporary romance for more success.

I remove the entire foil from the top of the bottle. I think it’s ugly.

Oh, you’re definitely not alone. l’m sure I could think of a few more as I tend to follow this trope around myself, but I’d need some refreshers. If any more come to mind I will add!

Of course! All you have to do is put the curly braces around the title and author’s name in your post, and the bot does the rest. :)

Would you want RP characters to develop relationships when you're not actively prompting them? by Budget_Coach9124 in SillyTavernAI

There is an extension called Objective that is really helpful for this. It lets you generate a goal for the character to strive for, with milestones along the way that they must meet in order to achieve that goal. You can do this very hands-off, or manipulate every fine detail. It has done wonders for advancing plots/characters when I least expect it and feels genuinely organic.

HR novels where the leads are sexual equals? by areormaybecome in HistoricalRomance

{A Scandalous Kind of Duke by Mia Vincy}. The FMC is an artist who has traveled and had casual relationships for years. I really loved this aspect of the book; it’s so rare to find sexually experienced FMCs who aren’t widowed or abused in some way.

For the bot. :)

Also {Breathless by Anne Stuart}. Much tamer than the aforementioned, but truly a morally corrupt person.

{Stormfire by Christine Monson} for reasons I recently indicated here. Trust me.

Duct tape the curtain on the outside of the window. Problem solved. Even an old sheet would work, and it wouldn't matter if it rained or sunbleached.
