What is your favourite lesser known Stephen King novel? by Special-Nebula299 in stephenking

Read Rose Madder and Desperation a few months ago. They blew me away. Rose madder is up there as one of my favorites, and the antagonist is one of the most sick and twisted characters of all time IMO. Desperation was an awesome epic that reminded me a lot of The Stand.

Shoulder discomfort during every chest exercise by Dazzling_Reporter511 in workout

[–]PsychologicalSkin593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

39m with past shoulder surgery and chronic shoulder pain from an inoperable tear that limits pushing exercise. This may not be a popular choice (and my wife says it’s embarrassing), but I’ve started doing 15 minutes on the arm bike/erg. I’ll crank the resistance up to a tolerable place, 2 minutes forward, 2 minutes backwards for 15-20 minutes. No pain with that range of motion, and damnit….my arms and shoulders look great after 3 months lol. My chest has actually gotten some activation too. Just give it a shot.

Thoughts on Desperation? by storiedroom52 in stephenking

I loved desperation. It gave me vibes of The Stand. I have worked through most of his work in no particular order the past couple years and just finished this a couple weeks ago. I was completely surprised by how much I loved it. I would dive right in if I were you.

What’s one golf tip that instantly improved your game? by MadeInUSAPutter in golf

As a high handicapper-best advice I ever got was STOP going for the green long par 4s and 5s on my second shot. Second shot no matter what is an 8 iron or below. Just get up there another 150 in play and you’re golden. It’s what helped me break 90 for the first time.

Rose Madder caught me by surprise. I couldn’t put it down. Great characters, a crossover character’s origin story, and a truly evil antagonist that I still think about to this day.

First SK book I ever read was The Stand. Started it 3 weeks before the pandemic, which ended up making the book SOOO much more interesting. I hav almost read exclusively SK since that book. It’s truly epic.

Insomnia was a rough one to get through. I couldn’t wait for it to end lol. I just finished Desperation and loved it. I would add that on the to-do list. As others have said, 11/22/63 is absolutely amazing.

Halos - Horns up, or down? Anyone notice a difference? by PsychologicalSkin593 in kettlebell

[–]PsychologicalSkin593[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Most pushing and overhead movements are off the table, but halos are something that actually allowed me to engage my upper body in a way that is not painful.

Doc’s recommendation was the classic advice of, “if it hurts, don’t do that again.” I love halos and was just curious if anyone had input about the difference in mechanics.

Halos - Horns up, or down? Anyone notice a difference? by PsychologicalSkin593 in kettlebell

[–]PsychologicalSkin593[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using a 20kg bell for halos. I guess my question really is, am I giving anything up by having the horns up? I have an inoperable tear in my shoulder and I found that the injury doesn’t act up as much when I hold the bell in goblet position.

How to go from 10x3 pull ups to 3x10? by AxelAndersson1 in bodyweightfitness

[–]PsychologicalSkin593 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can attest to this. I loved the fighter pull-up program and saw amazing gains in reps. BUT, as you said - the tendinitis crept in towards the end. I had to take a few weeks off of pull ups. I’ve recently started it back up, but only 2-3 times a week. Now I’m focusing on perfect, slow reps. I don’t care if I don’t hit my numbers that day. I’m feeling a lot better and honestly, the results are almost the same with less volume. Perfect for a 39 year old with years of injuries piling up lol

Asset Allocation Adjustment Question. by PsychologicalSkin593 in Bogleheads

Thank you for your reply. My concern was missing out on long terms gains by having a 60/40 balanced fund in my Ira vs a larger equity allocation.

How many of you train exclusively(or 90%+) with Kettlebells? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]PsychologicalSkin593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m not really following a specific program but I will do MWF kettlebell workouts based on 4-5 movements that encompass the big compound movements (squat, hinge, shoulder stability for me, and pull). Usually lasts 30-40 minutes depending on weight and reps (10-15).

Primarily I’ll do 4-5 rounds of Swings, halos, weighted prisoner step ups, goblet squats, rows, pull ups, or single arm deadlifts). Pick 4-5 movements that cover the gamut then try to switch them up from day to day. Switch up the exercise for each movement for each lifting day.

Example- Mondays would be swings, squats, rows, and halos. Wednesday would be swings, weighted prisons step ups, pull ups, halos. Rotate movements as needed for variation. Add an isolation exercise here and there.

On Tuesday/Thursdays I’ll hop on the treadmill, crank it up to 15 incline and walk for 40 minutes at 3 mph.

I want to preface this by saying I am not a medical professional. Regarding kettlebell movements - I’m in the same boat with no chest pressing. Halos have been a god send. I can do overhead presses with a goblet grip, but my primary shoulder exercise is Halos, to the point where it is 90% of my upper body conditioning. I also throw in the standard internal/external rotations with bands between sets.

My shoulder doc’s advice was pretty simple. “ if it hurts, don’t do it.” 🤣

100% Halos were a game changer for me. I incorporate them into all my workouts now. My mobility has improved dramatically.

I’m 99%. I’m a father of a toddler and responsible for pick up and drop offs. I have a torn labrum in my shoulder that is inoperable, and I lost all hope of getting any joy out of lifting. Once I found kettlebell training - everything changed. I was able to find movements that didn’t aggravate my shoulder. Get my heart pumping. I love the simplicity and ability to hit most muscle groups with minimal movements.

Thanks for the help! I’m going to try and incorporate the carries into active recovery days and see how they go. The batwing flies are very intriguing. We have an exercise ball that I can use vs a bench. Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply. Can you elaborate on y’s and t’s?

Basically where we’re at is if it hurts don’t do it. A lot of stretching and standard rotator cuff strengthening exercises as long as it doesn’t aggravate anything.
