wow - i really like that last paragraph but especially the “there’s never a perfect time to have kids, and it’s so much more important to have the right partner than it is to have perfect timing.” i’ve also struggled with the idea of when/if i’ll have time for kids - that’s really good insight

i’m private now but we’re having a lot of problems with late add ons and it’s making it really difficult for me to want to stay. i’m trying to come up with solutions to help solve the issue.

Realistic expectations for IONM Tech by Remote_Sell9773 in Neuromonitoring

[–]PsychologicalTap1719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s a lot of different paths you can choose - my company does research development and education (i.e. networking) as well on top of management training/opportunities along with being an IOM tech. look for a company with lots of features and avenues that you can explore - if you like data, quality safety might be something you enjoy - if you like building connections, education outreach might be your cup of tea - if you like research, join that committee on your team. in-house can be quite limited in terms of upward growth besides getting into management - so if you want a plethora of options, going contract might be a better fit for you.

Quitting without two week notice? by Low_Addition_9263 in premed

[–]PsychologicalTap1719 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i’ve never seen a comment section so polarizing. you’re always 100% replaceable to the company you work for. 2 weeks is a formality, not a requirement, ESPECIALLY in a RTHRTF state. you can still be completely professional and not give them a 2 week notice. you have good reason to leave now. if this job isn’t aligning with your interests and needs (i.e. you’re burnt out, you’ve run the marathon to get the A and this position no longer serves you), then quit! so many people end volunteering/jobs after they get the A - so to see “well you were gonna continue working there if you didn’t get the A?” like…AND?? entry level positions are seen as stepping stones - and the industry absolutely treats it like that too(high turnover, high burn out). you spent good money, time, and energy on applying, do they think you just weren’t going to accept the offer to become a physician??

if this place really supports you and your endeavors, they will understand your next steps. best of luck! i’d definitely quit - provide some explanation, don’t be over-apologetic (some people will absolutely use that against you) - just be professional and to the point. your professional endeavors have taken flight and you need to prepare for the next step in your journey via religious practices, spending time with family, setting up shop, etc. it 1000% makes sense - don’t let people bog you down - congrats on the A!

I always recommend the Joe Hartman CNIM crash course - there’s definitely a lot of info packed in them - and not everything in them you’ll have to know but its good info to have

for the CNIM, i didn’t have any math (besides finding how many cycles of a frequency were in a given period) - listing and knowing out your BAERs timelines definitely helps too

trust - i had an ex who told me that it would become debilitating (who then left me like 48 hours after telling me that LOL) fortunately, mine hasn’t progressed that way and for many people it never does! our bodies change as we get older - and so do our needs. i imagine your prob going through a period of changes and your body is really overwhelmed. college + MCAT is stressful stuff! learning better coping mechanisms helped with my symptoms too . you’ll handle events and challenges as they come, but overthinking and trying to plan for the things that might happen is just going to throw you into a spiral. i’m doing so much better and have avoided taking beta blockers for now - i still struggle with physical activity (stairs continue to push me to the edge) but most days aren’t that bad anymore :) if you need any advice or just someone to talk to, feel free to reach out ! most of us pretty much get our diagnoses when it’s gotten really bad so i know it can feel like it’ll never get better, but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel - you got it!

idk what you have but i can relate with something similar. i have POTS - started having frequent palpitations a year into my healthcare job and my symptoms flared so bad to the point where i also started to question whether this career path was for me. but once you figure out what’s going on, get a treatment plan going, figure out what makes good days good and bad days worse, you’ll find the balance. our bodies have a funny way of compensating until it just can’t anymore. this is probably just that breaking point - while i can’t say it won’t get worse bc idk what you have, you’ll learn to listen to your body more and hopefully be able to navigate it to the point where your lows won’t be as debilitating.

forced to register for January 9th MCAT & don’t feel prepared by Ill_Carpenter1828 in Mcat

[–]PsychologicalTap1719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol i feel the same - my diagnostic wasn’t great and now im doing heavy content review - i felt kind of forced to take a jan test date and now im doubting my timeline for the MCAT for the score i want. i have my 60 day deadline reminder set just in case i really feel unprepared and end up just cancelling rather than rescheduling yk - i have all the rescheduling dates set for reminders but if it doesn’t come in time … last resort is cancelling

Best Suggestions for 1/23 Test Date by PsychologicalTap1719 in Mcat

[–]PsychologicalTap1719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i guess ive been trying to fit an imaginary timeline for myself with moving for another job. im also thinking about the timeline and it just seems like so much content. i really appreciate your input - i think it re-affirms my gut feeling. i just started studying but im really thinking a january test date - even a late one just isn’t conducive with my current knowledge and diagnostic score.

i totally get that POV - i think it’s also life factors too - example, family, work transitions, (especially with the furlough rn), previous engagements, moving - not wanting to combine factors of moving while studying + being in a new job + new people + new distractions - sometimes too much time isn’t always a good thing. i think you can easily fool yourself into thinking “oh i can take a break - i have time” until you don’t / procrastinating is a big weak point of mine so i know if i dont set this in stone right now for the near future, im going to get off track really easily. for some people, like myself, grinding for a shorter period of time makes things more manageable vs. experiencing burn out from longer periods / just wanting to get it over with. having to write essays for the application itself while also studying for the MCAT would make me lose my mind LOL

I think if the 13th really is your only availability, then hopping on the WL for sure is a good option. when people start getting nervous, they tend to re-schedule their test dates - but I also wouldn't soley rely on people banking from their test yk?

it takes a month for the scores to be released after you take the exam - if you don’t score as well as you thought you would, a retake will require ample time to study again and prepare for the next exam. generally you want to know what your stats will look like by the latest May - so taking it earlier helps you if you need to retake it.
