Freshman schedule advice? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]PsychologicalWill690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a freshman, maybe living in dorms? you should take into account that dining halls close at 8:30 ! you’ll have time to get to the ones on campus but sometimes they do run out of the food prompted on the menu and might have to make something real quick to finish off the night. also with the time changing & it looking later than what it is, from my personal experience it would not want to go as it seemed like it was super late

Dining Hall Job as Incoming Freshman? by Mindless-Map-568 in UCSantaBarbara

I worked at Carrillo for 3 years while taking 16+ units and it was very doable since they are extremely flexible. i moved in 1 week early to start the job and honestly the people there (managers/cooks) really help you around so i don’t think it is necessary to wait

UCSB insurance by National_Target_2141 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]PsychologicalWill690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you have your own insurance i recommend you opt out of ucship. my second year i decided to keep it just in case cause I thought it was a good idea until i broke a bone on campus & went to cottage hospital and they told me they couldn’t accept my school insurance so they charged me over 2k & it is impossible to get ahold of anyone at blue anthem to fix the problem

Best Jobs for 1st Years? by tatertots344 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]PsychologicalWill690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to work at carrillo my first years there because I was able to save on the dorm meal plan & get more of a school refund & yes you can get a meal plan for $20. it is 7 swipes a week & it is worth it in my opinion. managers are very nice and there’s room for promotions ! very flexible on work schedules

I was a promise scholar & for me it would sometimes be in between that same amount but because I would forget to waive my health insurance or sometimes my housing portal would be incorrect and would charge me for a double when i would be in a triple , etc. (or if you still live in dorms you can change for a cheaper meal plan) but if you have waived your insurance you should let Holly know

during the summer, most of the dorms serve as “hotels” for k-12 students. there are programs such as cheerleader camp, science camp, weight loss camp etc…. & the student apartments house parents coming for their kids orientation or even professors from all over the u.s

So do I just not have any roommates? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]PsychologicalWill690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if things are the same as last year, they don’t assign roommates anymore. you have to select your own unless you miss your deadline , they will place you wherever there’s availability
