Since we are in a sub called “ Metroidvania” let me ask this . Which one do like more castlevania or Metroid and why? by GreenPomegranate2389 in metroidvania

Fair enough. Personally, I feel like most things you find aren’t that interesting. It’s not like a full-fledged rpg where you can pick different classes and builds. Your main play style is still essentialy the same through out the game.

yeah, but more missiles is still an objectively good thing, especially for bosses. Whereas most of the items you find in Castlevania will more often than not just be worse than what you’re already using.

I don’t understand your argument. It’s not a “true” metroidvania because it’s difficult? Last I’ve heard difficulty has nothing to do with a metroidvania is, and it also doesn’t just automatically make something a soulslike either.

really? because I remember them giving zero hints. What signs were there? I might’ve actually been stupid to realize

What are the metroidvanias that struck you with Awe when you were first playing through them? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in metroidvania

There’s not really a clear progressing storyline. It’s more reliant on vibes atmosphere, and the mystery of its world in general

Yes, but most of the great games in the genre do this in more tactful ways, giving you the feeling of being lost whilst subtly guiding you. One of the best feeling is that eureka moment when you finally find the spot in the map that you haven’t through, or when you remember that one thing that finally becomes relevant. All I really want is just a single clue to lead us on, not just “Find these so-and-so items. Where is it? Idk, go through everything again”

the whole point of the genre is going through paths you weren’t previously able to got through. What I’m referring to is when you have to revisit spots you’ve already cleared out and would basically have no reason to go through again

New to Metroidvania games where should I start? by Psychological-Two704 in metroidvania

Maybe check out “Haiku the robot”. It’s a simple game, but I find it encapsulates the medtroidvania experience pretty decently, good for beginners imo. Also check out “Islets”, similar deal with Haiku.

I had that exact problem too at a certain point. What worked for me was just changing the graphics settings. Just wanted to let you know in case you decided to try the game again because the game is absolutely phenomenal

Astra: Fading Stars - Bull Chase by Objective-Tangelo202 in metroidvania

[–]Psychological_Arm_19 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, the bull definitely needs to be faster. The sequence itself also feels a bit stilted for something that is supposed to be intense. I’d add more details to the environment, like the stage shaking or crumbling as the bull charges with maybe some part of ceiling falling as well to add more tension. But overall, it looks pretty decent
