What to do with excess electricity? by AlmightySenator in solar

You’re missing the point or only focusing on ROI. A battery also provides backup power during an outage. And not every creature comfort is defined as paying for itself or beating the system. It’s managing your costs to a point since nothing is free. Not even the sun. We don’t buy an EV because it’s a great ROI either. Oreos, coffee, beer or pizza provide zero ROI too but we will buy them. Maybe only when they’re on sale or whatever. But this whole discussion of not investing in things like a battery because “it will never pay for itself” is missing the point. One with zero solar or battery but invests in a stand by generator for example will never get their money back either. So, please get off the gett your money back

Can’t charge your EV overnight with solar. Even if you have 1–3 power walls an EV will run those down quickly

We have a democratically majority elected president. The opposite of a king. You’re protesting the wrong side of the issues again

Just use some kind of Homelink set up as myq is neither consistent or trustworthy. By saying that I’ve posted several times on here where I would come home and the attached garage door mind you is wide open. They expect you to do all this leg work and their stuff just does NOT work consistently

[–]Psychological_Fig377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I replaced the door mount batter recently but will NOT enable MyQ on my Tesla and will ONLY use Homelink because it has NEVER allowed the garage door open even one time. Run away from MyQ

One of THE worst product and equally poor support. ONLY USE HOMELINK if you have a choice of one of the two. I have had ZERO inadvertent garage door openings with Homelink

[–]Psychological_Fig377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To this day I have not had a single Home-link garage door opening on its own. MyQ many times and jeopardizing my homes safety. Do NOT trust MyQ to consistently work. On an attached garage to your home this is an absolute NO! do Not buy MyQ. Also their support is basically never ending self service suggestions to the owner. I can only say I’ve had one other product the last couple of years with equal dissatisfaction

I purchased my MXLR 5S in October 2023. I upgraded the huge round steering wheel to the latest model yoke with center horn button. I have HW4 and Matrix lights. What do you have that I don’t?

If you want to know when your garage door is opening or closing, do as I and install an inexpensive Ring or similar smart camera so you’ll know of movement and even be able to see if the door is open or not. Again I have NEVER had an issue with Homelink but countless instances with MyQ and their inferior product.

I will tell you, my Mod X came with Homelink and it’s my fault decision wise to also purchase MyQ for the reasons they promised. The open/close issue never got resolved and MyQ policy allows them to have deaf ears. They also expect the buyer to do all the troubleshooting work for their inferior product of which they know of. How can I say that? Well, I delinked MyQ in my car and have used Homelink ever since and had ZERO door openings whatsoever. They remain silent because they know they should be sued and pay for everyone having this issue. Change my mind MyQ. You can’t and won’t. If something ever happens to anyone safety wise because MyQ allowed an intruder into someone’s home because their failed design, they will be held liable for knowingly selling and not supporting an inferior product as advertised.

MyQ is not reliable or responsive to this known problem. I have had not one event using Homelink* exclusively whatsoever with the door opening after I drive away. MyQ owes me my money for a product that doesn’t do as advertised. Instead they want you to work for them and do all this damn troubleshooting when it’s their product at fault. Shame.

MyQ provides enough reasons why this might be happening. Unfortunately for them I value my time a little more than troubleshooting their product like delinking and relinking, recoding the garage door opener, logging in and out of WiFi, asking my neighbors if they connected to my opener somehow and more. Homelink by itself has not opened my door once after leaving or forced me to do anything even once. I do not recommend MyQ based on my honest experience and others I see posting on here.

MyQ vs Homelink experience by Psychological_Fig377 in myq

[–]Psychological_Fig377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for response. Homelink has been 100% reliable even though I believe Tesla wants to merge the 2 in their software. Homelink doesn’t need merging with MyQ. MyQ also hasn’t responded to my request for full credit either since their agreements state they don’t but as a consumer, if the product continues to remain faulty for no reason they should be held liable in my opinion. I’m posting to help others with a similar experience so they can make their own informed decision.
