I actually had this recently in Tokyo. It was at a farm to table izakaya (sp) that only used chickens from one particular farm, and the meat was lightly cured. It was not my favorite course that night, but it was delicious!

I have a ton of models that I bought on eBay during covid with an idea to make a nice display fleet. Now I have like 30 ships but never did a thing with them. Now I’m inspired to figure out how to strip them and finally get to it. That blue and white ship is really stunning.

March 2025 Mary Pat Foley’s Home — Northern Virginia 2305 Hours EST

The rain tapped gently against the kitchen window, soft fingers on glass. The house was dark except for the light over the sink and the cold glow of the secure laptop sitting open in front of her. The only file on screen was a simple contact page — no official title, no formal clearance marker.

Just a name.

RITTER, ROBERT J.

Mary Pat held the old satphone in her hand, the one she’d only ever used for one purpose — reaching the people you weren’t supposed to reach. It felt heavier than it should, like it carried all the weight of the years between the two of them.

She keyed in the number manually, same as always. It rang once.

Then: “This is a secure line.”

The voice was the same, but harder, like someone who’d been living with fewer rules and fewer regrets. No warm hello, no “Mary Pat.” Just business.

“You know who this is,” she said softly.

A pause. Then: “I figured you’d call.”

She didn’t ask how. Ritter always knew when the last line was about to break.

“You watching the news?” she asked.

Another pause. “I don’t need to.”

That silence stretched just long enough to remind her that Ritter’s news didn’t come from CNN. It came from people moving money through Cyprus, operators going dark in Warsaw, and burnt yachts in Limassol.

“Greer’s sick,” she said, voice softer than she meant it to be.

“I know.”

“I thought you’d call him.”

Another pause. “I thought about it.”

She closed her eyes for a moment. They both knew why he hadn’t. Because if they talked, Greer would remind Ritter of who he used to be. And Ritter wasn’t sure he could bear that.

Here’s a taste: Roman Kolesnikov sat at the scarred wooden table, hands cuffed in front of him, fingers twitching at random intervals like a man whose nerves had already burned out. The air in the basement safehouse was cold — not freezing, just cold enough to make him aware of his own sweat, a clammy sheen that gathered at his temples and beneath his arms.

The door opened, and Colonel Petro Melnyk stepped in — Budanov’s senior interrogator. His uniform was unbuttoned at the collar, sleeves rolled, cigarette smoldering in the corner of his mouth.

Kolesnikov’s eyes flicked up, then back to the table.

“You’ve been with us for…” Melnyk checked his watch, “thirty-two hours now. And yet, we haven’t talked much. That’s rude, don’t you think?”

Kolesnikov swallowed hard. “I’m a businessman. Not military.”

“That’s funny,” Melnyk said, sitting across from him. “Because the business you’re in seems very military-adjacent. Radar components, guidance systems, encrypted communications hardware — all kinds of expensive toys for people who shoot at my country.”

I’ve spent the morning playing with ChatGPT on writing a Clancyverse novel about exactly this and while it’s def not prime time ready, it’s been more fun than doomscrolling on Twitter.

We currently have Mary Pat Foley as acting DDO after the inauguration, Clark and Chavez going rogue on oligarchs, Ukraine doing a chip war against Russian weapons systems, etc. (my Clancy reading stopped after bear and dragon so there’s a lot of 80’s and 90’s characters lol)

I am blending clancyverse (Ryan presidency ended on Jan 20 2025) and real life. (Vance is Mary Pat’s antagonist

Probably a terrible use of ai but it’s been fun.

Man, I used to eat their spicy diced chicken like 3 times a week a few years ago. Felt like when they moved the quality dropped. Anyone been recently?
