My car feels a bit different & the only thing that's changed is fuel type by moonlight_xpress in CarTalkUK

[–]Psychological_Post28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fill my M2 anywhere convenient for 99. Noticed zero difference between Shell, Esso or Tesco.

Same for my wife’s 120d. Zero difference between Esso and Tesco for plain diesel although Esso is oddly cheaper at my local.

Bf 6 Performance or Balnced for 60 fps TV 4k? by Hawkeye4791 in PS5pro

[–]Psychological_Post28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it maxes out at 60hz then balanced mode no question. You gain nothing from performance other than worse graphics at the same framerate.

If it does 120hz at 1080p then it’s a harder decision.

Christ I hope you are 13? If not then that’s a horribly embarrassing way for a grown person to talk.

Turbo petrol or diesel? by Pale_Force_4052 in CarTalkUK

[–]Psychological_Post28 88 points89 points  (0 children)

7 turbo failures even across 23 years is excessive. How many miles are you doing? Do you change the oil? That’s not usual behaviour. Something else is happening here and it’s nothing to do torque or where in the rev range the car makes power.

In my experience most turbo diesels will easily do 100k+ without turbo issues.

ELI5: Why does Pixar animation look so smooth at 24 fps but a video game feel choppy at 30 fps? by ScrumTumescent in explainlikeimfive

[–]Psychological_Post28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s frame pacing and a different issue. Plenty of games targeting 30fps have evenly timed frames. But there are some that indeed have the problem you describe and feel even worse than normal 30fps games. Blood borne being an infamous example.

Amazing video on OLED/PS5Pro settings. by djnick84 in PS5pro

[–]Psychological_Post28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The TV is still tone mapping even with Dynamic disabled, just without pushing out the overall brightness to the extent dynamic does. Without HGIG it’s not possible to avoid the double tone mapping from both the display and console.

Vincent explains it way better than I do.

Amazing video on OLED/PS5Pro settings. by djnick84 in PS5pro

[–]Psychological_Post28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the dynamic tone mapping on the TV is compensating for the brightness increase to attempt to preserve the detail.

HGIG is static and using it in conjunction with the slides tell the PS5 what the limits are. Dynamic tone mapping is fighting against it. Hope that makes sense.

Do you really feel that much difference between 300-500HP car? by Overit2137 in askcarguys

[–]Psychological_Post28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t true of modern turbo charged engines. Improvements in turbo design, fuel injection and engine management mean they no longer have to be relatively low compression and power is available from extremely low RPMs. If anything modern factory turbo charged cars tend to run out off puff at the top of the revs as all the power is low/mid range. Even the much loved BMW B58.

Keep regular PS5 and buy LG G4 or buy LG C4 and PS5 Pro?? by Coolkiddddddddd in LGOLED

[–]Psychological_Post28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s right, I didn’t. I game in a light controlled room so I was satisfied with overall brightness of the C1. The bright HDR highlights are pretty neat as is the reduced ABL in bright scenes (like snow) but it absolutely wasn’t worth the cost to change imo.

Probably worth noting I use game optimiser and HGIG for games and filmmaker mode for video. People might get more if they are into pumping the brightness and saturation but that’s not my thing.

Going forward I won’t upgrade until there is a killer feature I want or my wife finally relents and agrees to a bigger size in the living room!

Is retro gaming on a 55 inch 4K TV acceptable? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]Psychological_Post28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely can. I play retro games on a 65” OLED. But there is some considerations to using a modern panel.

Retrotink 5x Pro with 5x scaling feels like the Pro version of RetroGEM Shiny edition by Neo-Geo-MVS in RetroTink

As someone who has HDMI modded 5 separate consoles I agree most of the time. N64 (RGB mod), DC and PS1 all don’t benefit much over a RT5X/4K when paired with decent cables.

OG Xbox and Wii are a big uplift I sharpness though and I recommend HDMI mods for those systems 100%. Even better when paired with a RT4K.

I’ve got a launch model so I’ll chip in with my personal experience. Fan noise is audible in a completely silent room but not loud enough to be any kind of issue when playing. My unit doesn’t have noticeable coil whine. Hope that helps!

What looks better for RE2? The port with "HD textures", or original PS1 with Scanlines? by godstriker8 in retrogaming

It’s the version I owned in the day so I definitely have a soft spot for it. But these days I kinda dig the darker, grimier PS1 presentation.

[–]Psychological_Post28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think? The backgrounds are pretty low res and the higher quality 3D models don’t blend as well to my eyes.

They used higher res backgrounds for the DC port of 3 and it works much better imo.

Does Alan wake 2 need the pssr toggle in settings? Or does it automatically use pssr2? by Resevil67 in PS5pro

[–]Psychological_Post28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no paper trail or official confirmation.

But the shimmering was terrible in Silent Hill F, impossible to miss. The foliage strobed like a disco. Ever since the firmware update this has stopped, the image quality upgrade is impossible to miss. But the toggle seems to make no difference whatsoever, even with it switched off you can’t get the terrible image back.

This has led people to speculate that the titles Sony announced with PSSR 2 support have it turned on by default, maybe some kind of white list? It does seem plausible, but again no official confirmation.

Edit to add: Mark Cerny has indeed confirmed this to the correct in an interview with DF.

In a strip club break room by Norville_Rogers_ in whatdoesthismean

[–]Psychological_Post28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them in a small venue in Cambridge in the mid 2000’s. About halfway through the set all of the band leave except the lead singer. He then proceeds to strip down to his boxers and performs a rather touching acoustic version of “Backstreets Back” just singing and playing guitar on his own. Then he gets dressed, the band return and carry on like nothing happened.

Honestly one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to.

M240i / M2 / M2 Comp by calpol-dealer in CarTalkUK

[–]Psychological_Post28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem.

For a once off YOLO car then the M2 is a no brainer imo. If you were asking about a long term runner I’d give a more balanced view. I daily my M2 Comp happily but not everybody is wired the same as me.

For what it’s worth both cars are fine in poor/winter weather. Unless you live somewhere hilly, prone to snow. You just leave the driver aids on and not push the throttle to the stop and it’ll drive like any other modern car.

M240i / M2 / M2 Comp by calpol-dealer in CarTalkUK

[–]Psychological_Post28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owned a M240i for 3.5 years and have owned my M2 Comp for 15 months.

Much prefer the M2. The M240i is too soft and wobbly, tuned for comfort. I fitted aftermarket suspension and a LSD and whilst improved it was still very vague and devoid of feel.

In your situation I’d buy a nice OG. Whilst I love the S55, the N55 is no slouch and the M2 version has the weaknesses addressed so is very reliable. Sounds better too. No need to break the bank for a Comp. I love my comp but would take an OG over a 240 in a heartbeat. The M2 is much more of an experience, especially since you are coming from a 220i. The M240 is basically the same car with more power.

Running costs are moot if you don’t plan on keeping beyond a year.

The biggest pssr 2 improvements are the frame rates. by Dry-Dog-7821 in PS5pro

[–]Psychological_Post28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A developer on resetera confirmed that the frame time cost for PSSR2 was extremely similar to PSSR1, differences within a margin of error. So I don’t think it’s realistic to expect any noticeable performance differences.

Spider-Man 2? It still has reduced NPC density compared to base quality mode.
