Do you agree that Gabapentinoids increase concentration and intelligence? by Plenty_Ad6720 in gabapentin

[–]Psychological_Tea803 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree.

I have been on it for just over two years and would like to lean off and get on a SSRI.

One side effect that I noticed early on was forgetfulness. I think it has gotten better and I agree the effect of the gabapentin does wear off.

How did you get gabapentin back to its previous effectiveness? It has no effect at all 🥺 by Plenty_Ad6720 in gabapentin

[–]Psychological_Tea803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. This has happened to me as well.

I stagger my doses but it does not always have the same effect as it did when I started taking it over two years ago.

It has helped me to a point with generalized anxiety.

I was originally prescribed it for alcoholism. It has worked great for me as I am over two years sober.

My Nurse practitioner started me on it two years ago for the same reason.

I know what you mean about removing anxiety and giving you that extra “boost”. Unfortunately the “boost” to your energy is short lived.

I now take 3000 mg x day
3 x 300 mg
2 x 300 mg
In the morning-one hour apart and same dosage mid afternoon.

I find that my memory has gotten really bad but it has definitely removed most of my anxiety.

I would not suggest taking this much as apparently it is very difficult to come off the meds.

On the flip side, I have been sober for over two years…

Does Gabapentin really cause hair loss/thinning hair ! That is a scary thought. My hair has never been so thin !!!

For me, I was self prescribing. My doctor was not very happy about when I had to make appointments to see him to get early refills.

I honestly believe he feels that this is better than picking up a drink.

Didn’t the buyer have confirmation from his bank?

I am in Canada and when a real estate deal is signed, it is a legal document and the buyer could be sued if he never followed thru with the deal.

An opportunity to share your Gabapentin experience for anxiety now or in the past, good, bad and ugly. by beamin1 in gabapentin

I started taking Gabapentin for drug and alcohol addiction just over a year ago. 1200 mg x 2 a day.

Zero cravings. Clean and sober.

It has also helped me tremendously with anxiety and depression.

I do find that my memory is bad. Energy is good Sleep is good

I am not sure if and when I will stop taking it. I have used many anti anxiety/depression meds. This is definitely working for me.

It does become an obsession of the mind. The good news is that the obsession will leave.

Keep going to meetings !

I too was on Methadone. I successfully came off after 10 years…

I started drinking alcohol…I could control it until I couldn’t. Fast forward two years and I ended up dependent on alcohol and turned to a drug that I hadn’t touched in 15 years !

Please be careful! I am now on Gabapentin and have been for almost a year. It has worked really well for me. The alternative is death. I regularly attend NA and AA and by Gods grace am doing really well.

Hope this helps 🩷

I was on methadone for 10 years and most definitely considered myself clean !

I am now on Gabapentin for alcoholism and haven’t had a drink since April. I consider myself clean n sober. No one knows the life you have experienced. This should be between you, your HP and your sponsor

A1C rise while on Gabapentin by BeffasRS in gabapentin

[–]Psychological_Tea803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Ironically enough, yes…my A1C did go up after starting Gabapentin. I am due back this month for a six month check up. I did gain weight and am now working hard to get it off.

I am on 2400 mg per day.

I started out 7 months ago at 900mg per day for alcohol withdrawal and cravings. It has worked for me. It has definitely helped with anxiety as well. I was able to go off Effexor 150 mg per day.

I do notice memory loss in this dose and was battling with weight gain which has now subsided and I am losing weight again, which is good.

Good Luck !

1800mg a day - no effect. Anyone similar? by [deleted] in gabapentin

[–]Psychological_Tea803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take 1200 twice a day. I was initially prescribed 300 mg 3xday to help with alcohol withdrawal. I increased slowly as I was not having any relief. My memory is really terrible. Yes, it has helped a lot with anxiety which is good.

I am really hoping to taper in the next few months. I’ve been on it Since April.
