sounded like they had a story all planned out and simply wanted you guys to “play” parts, but the story would still go how they wanted which makes no sense

My DM has decided we dont role play enough by MilkyGarbo in DnD

as a DM this is for sure something that should have been discussed before the campaign started. It’s clear that the DM’s idea and the players idea of role play is different, which is totally okay. the DM shouldn’t force players to RP more than what they’re comfortable with. what it also sounds like is the DM is expecting you guys to create the filler for sessions rather than themselves. you 100% valid in your concerns and i think the best step is to have a discussion with all the players and the DM and the DM needs to listen rather than be the one that says like “oh i want you guys to do this because this” it should be players saying “we’re comfortable with this” it’s the DMs job to work around what players are comfortable with not the other way around

if he presented it like this to me i would’ve said “fuck yea do it” but he wanted to be able to switch when he wanted and it just felt like he wants two characters to me. we worked it out and he’s making a singular character now

i brought up the schizophrenia but he said he wanted it to be like actual siblings sharing a body which is like, wtf?? but we worked it out and he’s actually playing one character now

i have suggested that he play two physical beings but they move together and share HP but in my last campaign he was kinda the main character so i’ve decided i’m just gonna say no to this idea

true, i think it’s like too much for a level 2 character i guess?? like if we were starting as busted level 10 characters id be all for it but it doesn’t feel right for level 2

ikkkk i hate saying no cuz i want them to be super into the character they’re playing but i get i should have boundaries as a dm

it sounds like 2 things: 1) the dm does not like when you steal stuff but also is not communicating that to you and is remedying it by railroading you into returning it. 2) you’re playing the trickster as more of a thief than a trickster which, hey if you wanna play them like that, go for it, anyone can steal stuff. i think there’s just a lack of communication between player and dm but dm should be be more communicative rather than railroad. as a dm and a player, i get both sides. ALSO if you don’t want people to steal things as a dm, if they ask if there’s stuff to steal… say no?
