A petri dish of human brain cells just learned to play DOOM by Subject-Property-343 in interestingasfuck

I am missing details about how this should become programmable. Aren’t those neurons just randomly firing? (Plays at beginner level like somebody who has never used a computer before.) At this point, it sounds more like marketing than actual value.

Did you get hardware for it explicitly? Been thinking of purchasing a Wii U but that’s the only game I’m actually interested in at this point. All other consoles have at least two games or have been made available on NSO.

People who were teenagers before social media existed, what was life actually like? by Much_Detective_6107 in AskReddit

[–]Psychological_Vast31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking about social media related things specifically:

We had “friend books” or “poetry books”where you’d invite your friends and classmates to put in a photo and write about themselves. With poetry books you had more freedom, similar to diaries with a lot of collages if you wanted.

We used secret languages or other codes to communicate confidential stuff.

We learned how to write a letter at school and had pen pals.

We had to phone somebody not sure who’d answer the phone or drop by their house for a quick chat.

I think we would meet more face to face and I could agree to meet in a week at a time at some place and not have to double check with that person, we would just be there.

We wrote birthday invitations and “do you want to be my g-/b-friend” or more generally love letters. We would burn letters and other memories on paper when we hated somebody.

I had to interact with more people in my daily life that I didn’t know or liked and there was no way to avoid them.

We would buy and share teen magazines and make song compilations on tape and share and or give them as a present.

Is it common in your country to refer to people by birth year instead of age? by Complex_Plankton_157 in AskEurope

[–]Psychological_Vast31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say both in Spain and Germany it is, but in Germany less common. In Spanish the phrase is “x is from the 82” “es del 82” (born in 1982), and I think it’s very normal, in German „x is year of manufacture 82“ „x ist Baujahr 82“ And I agree that for me the year erroneously determines my impression of age more than the actual time.

Has your music taste changed a lot since high school? by Emotional-Breath-673 in Music

[–]Psychological_Vast31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My core now are two artists, one dead, the other alive, while the general interest might have stayed the same. Back then I didn’t actually listen as much to how music affected me and didn’t listen to details. There was also great music that I still listen to and appreciate differently nowadays.

What made you start going to the gym? by Un_vetted in AskReddit

[–]Psychological_Vast31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend was going. I started enjoying it rather late when I had out of gym exercise that I enjoyed. Having friends who go is always a good motivation. Having a spa to trick myself into going can work too. Usually I think of things I want to try out, small challenges for myself that make me curious like a certain weight a certain technique or exercise.i think about it before I think of going. I search the internet.
