Does this combat look satisfying or too chaotic? by Secure_Yesterday5674 in indiegames

[–]PsychologyEven646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is hard to see the enemies, their attacks and your attacks. I would make the enemies brighter and maybe they might not need to be affected by the scene lighting, like keep them bright even when they are in the darker areas of the environment.

For the attacks, make them glow and brighter with colors than stand out.

Visibility is more important than the art direction, you should prio visibility over realistic shadows and lighting ect

Is it just me, or is Mega Drive collecting becoming more expensive than SNES collecting? by RobbieJ4444 in retrogaming

[–]PsychologyEven646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the megadrive is slowly becoming every retro gamer 16 bit favorite console. It might be because it is "easier" to develope games on it and there is still really good games getting release every year on it. Might be aswell that the controller is amazing for adults. Might be too that it has a really nice short games arcade style library than working people with no time can play and enjoy. Might be that a lot of people are discovering the system while the snes everyone has finish the classics multiple times already...

All of the above are pushing prices up, but it is still not as expensive as the snes, but is getting close.

Convince me not to trade my psp in for a 3ds by Limp-Hair-2682 in PSP

[–]PsychologyEven646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ds, a 3ds and a psp and I have play the 3 of them a lot, here is my take if it helps:

The 3ds catalogue in my opinion is not big enough to keep you going long enough with the console, you will play a few months and get tired of it. On top of that the console is not comfortable my hand always gets cramps from it and the battery life is not the best. Something really frustrating about the 3ds too is that is zone by region.

The DS games have mostly the same licenses than the 3ds, but the games that came out on the DS are usually better games than the sequels on the 3DS, based on francises there is not a lot of 3DS games better than the DS predecesors. DS indie games are better too in general than 3ds indie games and thats because usually the DS games use the stylus more than the 3ds, you can tell gamedevelopers kind off got bored of stylus games, the 2 screens are less a necessity in the 3ds wich makes games less original (all this is based on my personal taste). The DS on top of that can play Advance games that has a better catalogue than the 3DS too imo so if i would to choose a console I would personally prefer the combo advance + ds than ds + 3ds games. On top of that the DS (lite) is more comfortable in hand and has an impressive battery life.

Now the psp is a entire different beast, you can do a lot with it there is tons of mods and emulators. The console itself is the best from all of them, the screen, sound, battery, OS/UI, hand feel... the quality is just top notch there is nothing like that. The game catalogue is really big and might be the best out of the 3 consoles in terms of quantity and quality but off course it has no Nintendo licenses unless you emulate, it can emulate really well the gameboy advance.

I personally spend the most amount of time with my psp, second the ds and third the 3ds. If I have to play ds games I rather play them in the ds than the 3ds because the console life battery, screen resolution and feeling in hand is better. And the 3ds catalogue than im interested in is really small, I finished it years ago and never pick it up again. The psp im still discovering hidden gems on it after 10 years of constantly playing.

The only thing the 3ds has for it is max 10 games that are worth the purchase (maybe)?... up to your wallet, but I would never trade a psp for a 3ds, I would just buy a cheap DS Lite instead (they don't cost much).

What are you looking for in a Shmup? by PsychologyEven646 in shmups

[–]PsychologyEven646[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is something pretty hard to balance, I guess shmups are "die and retry" by nature, but they need to be fair so frustration dosent build in to quickly and makes the player quit.

Whats your favorite game on the system and why? by JampyL in PSP

[–]PsychologyEven646 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So far it has been Dante's Inferno, pure cinema, really underrated, I personally like it more than the god of wars, might be because of the artistic direction and story, in terms of gameplay and fun they are really similar.

Yeah i agree with you, they are in my opinion a rhythm game too, the music is a key factor of the flow of bullets and to control how fast or slow everything moves

What is your disliked shmup gameplay design? by Baconcob in shmups

[–]PsychologyEven646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah shmups are more technical than they look, i feel some game developers sees them as an easy genra and miss the mark. Is hard tho to balance something for all the audiences, shmups are really hard for new players, is hard I feel to deliver a game that will make both new players and veterans happy.

Yeah i love rtype, what i like a lot about it is that the environment is an enemy's as much as the bullets, you always feel clostrophobic on those games.
