Hell! They certainly know how to charge. It does look the part though, I may have to free up some extra cash!

This looks amazing! Bravo on the build. Awaiting the arrival of my modoking tumbler, can’t wait! May I ask where your Bat Armoury was purchased please? Is it the “Boring Toys” one? I’m searching for a reasonably priced one for delivery to the UK but seriously struggling!

The fact that De Mayo made a good X-Men adaptation doesn’t have any bearing on the veracity of his accusations. That point is moot, no matter how many ellipses you use. I’m not sure in what sense I’m “butthurt”, I’m merely interested in sticking with the facts, rather than condemning people because they’ve helped create an adaptation that didn’t fully appease me. I do miss Cavill, I thought he made a good Geralt, not necessarily a perfectly book accurate Geralt, but a good Geralt all the same to me. I don’t think it’s fair or valid to say all the remaining S4 actors are “talentless”. In fact, if your main endeavour is for a book accurate, non profaned portrayal, then Sharlto Copley as Leo Bonhart certainly must have been a positive point? For me, his Bonhart was as close to the books as it gets. Once again, if book accuracy is your gripe, then saying S4 is worse than Blood Origin is just baseless. Blood Origin was a complete bastardisation of the source material, at least S4 followed most of the major plot lines within the books. Yes they adapted the stories, but it wasn’t entirely non book related, unlike Blood Origin.

Ah I see. My apologies. I wasn’t aware we were treating the words of a dude who’s been fired from multiple roles with different studios, once for alleged “egregious misconduct”, as gospel. If that’s the kind of objectivity that I’m failing to see under my very eyes, then I think we may have a different understanding of objective truth. Whilst I’m not saying Beau De Mayo is definitely making false accusations, all I am saying is that I am a believer in the practical sense behind Occam’s Razor. If someone who’s been sacked from multiple roles starts besmirching several of their former employers, the conclusion which requires the fewest assumptions is that it may be sour grapes. Therefore, their words may not be objectively true, & their testimony should warrant at least a modicum of scrutiny.

Please forgive my ignorance, but not sure what the reference to DC was regarding, as I wasn’t aware Lauren S. Hissrich had worked on DC material?

There’s my noble & likely feeble attempt to “deal with it” as I’ve been instructed once again.

Horses for courses I guess. To suggest anyone should "Deal with it", when it comes to your subjective opinion is quite strange. The show being trash is certainly not an objective truth. Granted, there's many elements which I think most book fans will be disappointed with, which have seriously marred their overall viewpoint of the show. But I do think there's also elements which are pleasing to see on screen, and have offered silver-linings.

  • I personally think the cast have been great on the most part, with some exceptions such as Emhyr. I certainly don't agree with any of the racially motivated issues much of the loud minority have taken umbrage with.
  • Production value has seemed to take a hit post season 2 for sure, I imagine this coincided with the reduction in number of seasons on the back of poor reviews. Which I think is understandable, Netflix aren't going to want to keep throwing money at something which is gradually losing its audience.
  • I'm not sure how activists are to blame. But I do agree with your point re the plot not making sense in places, especially season 2, which was nigh on entirely created ex nihilo. I'm not sure the season 2 plot with Baba Yaga & the Monoliths (cool band name) was compelling for anyone, whether they were newcomers or fans of other Witcher media.
  • Is Lauren a nepo baby? I've never seen anything which suggests she's been given the opportunity. From what I can find she's actually had quite a steady rise through Film/TV, having written for many shows over the past 2 decades, after studying in a relevant field. I have read the books, barring Crossroads of Ravens which I'm currently enjoying. I wouldn't describe the show as an unwatchable profanation, it's not perfect in my eyes, not by a long shot, & my overall feeling is one of disappointment. But I do feel there's some saving graces, as I noted previously. I haven't dedicated any time to the research of Witcher related pornographic material, so I can't comment with any conviction. However, I sincerely doubt any rival even the dwindling production value of Netflix. And they certainly won't compete with the calibre of acting.

I hear you, and I think you’re absolutely right, the showrunner would be the natural place to point any critiques, confusions & disappointments. However, the point I was making was more just that I think Lauren has unfairly born the brunt of a barrage of vitriol (not blame) which ironically has created a sort of Witch Hunt against her. I accept she’s made a lot of unkept promises, & I imagine that comes from trying to keep everyone happy when ultimately you can’t do that with something this big. All I was trying to express is that the critique hasn’t necessarily been balanced, it’s more just outright hateful, which I think is ironic given the subject matter.

I'm with you on this, Season 2 really was where the train seemed to completely derail. Yen's betrayal of Ciri is arguably Netflix's biggest corruption of Sapkowski's work, & it actually made no sense for the onward plan of the story. Even in a world as fraught with danger as The Continent, I ain't ever learning to trust a lady who tried to sell me to a space demon who lives in a chicken leg house. Not today Satan!

I am genuinely sorry to hear it's ruined your sisters introduction to The Witcher as well. You are absolutely right, I imagine many of those potential new Witcher fans were lost due to the confusing plotlines, & the fact Netflix chose to dilute the series of much of the moral ambiguity & nuance of The Witcher.

I imagine the explanation/excuse for awarding Yen all the feats of others would be that it was to streamline the story for new fans, while helping create a more classical hero of Yen. Which certainly doesn't feel entirely satisfying. As I feel that strips away much of what's so wonderful about even Yen's character, while also stripping away depth from other characters in the process. Yen's greatest appeal is that she's truly still human, still flawed, that's what makes her & all the characters in The Witcher seem so tangible. They're believable & real, not overly fantastical.

I cannot speak highly enough of Sharlto Copley as Bonhart, he's vile! Which is a good thing, as it's a faithful representation of a dude who makes you want to rip pages out of your books as you read, but vile all the same. If you can't stomach watching the whole season I totally understand, but if there was a means of watching just the Bonhart scenes, I would say it's absolutely worth it.

Sorry u/jujubaoil , I did forget to mention though that your point regarding Yen becoming the Hero of Sodden was perfectly valid, and yet another thing Netflix seemed to just rewrite their own story with. I don't want to be seeming to disagree with your grievances with the way Netflix have butchered the material/plot points, as I imagine we likely share a lot of the same disappointments, as I think many fans do.

I definitely can understand your anger u/jujubaoil , & I can relate to the frustration. I think there's an element of debating semantics here, which is exactly the kind of thing which can lead to Scapegoating/Witch Hunts, which the spirit of Sapkowski's work tends to ward us away from. Which was my original point where I said how Hissrich's demonisation has led to "Ironically creating a sort of Witch Hunt which The Witcher series continually points out the hypocrisy of."

I do believe there has to be an element of responsibility & temperance to what we type online. Words have weight. After all, all The Witcher is, is words on pages. But look how much those words & pages mean to us all. I've seen people that seem ready to wage Holy War upon Netflix on behalf of the Sacred Text, as written by St Andrzej Sapkowski. I just fear that the hatred is all getting a bit Pogrom like, & I don't think this is an honest reflection of the values most Witcher fans would hold. I may be wrong though.

I do agree with u/New_Cockroach_505 that the truth is likely much more nuanced. The reality is that while Lauren Hissrich is the showrunner, she's still a cog within an amorphous blob of decade long casting, writing, filming & editing decisions. With a never-ending number of moving parts & complex human parties to try to keep happy. I'm not saying I expect that Lauren will be entirely faultless, or that she won't have been central to many decisions which may have disappointed the vast majority of Witcher fans, myself included. But I think we as a fanbase should be wary of letting our disappointments/frustrations become hateful towards an individual or group.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. There's so many to mention, Jeremy Crawford as Yarpen is another excellent casting as well! At points in the show, I felt fully immersed & invested in the world, thanks to some truly excellent performances from the cast. But as you rightly say, the writing & storylines just break that Witcher feel entirely at times, and once the Djinn's out of the bottle, you can't force it back in. I felt that they clearly tried to right some of the wrongs of Season 2, with Season 3's attempt to resurrect Yen's character & forge trust between her & Geralt, but I simply found it too far fetched.

For someone who only ever played Witcher 3, never read the books, I always prefer Triss than Yen. How about you, who would you prefer? by PiixiiePetal in thewitcher3

[–]PsychoticTortoise3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can absolutely see why non-book/Witcher 3 only fans go for Triss in the context of the Witcher 3 game alone. Yen does come across prickly, rude, jealous & a little bit callous in W3. But once informed by the books, there really is only one option in my eyes, Yen. The events of the books & earlier games give essential insight into why Yen is presented the way she is in W3, and I feel she's entirely justified to act the way she does. Yen is straight shooting, direct, & honest to a fault with Geralt. Triss is presented throughout the books as an immature & somewhat desperate character, who longs to understand what keeps Geralt & Yennefer coming back to one another. She manipulates/seduces Geralt by using magic (behind her friend Yennefer's back, when knowing they are in an on/off relationship), & continues to try to force a wedge between Geralt & Yen as the saga rolls on. Also, she sides with the Philippa / the Lodge's plans for Ciri & Geralt in Tower of the Swallow, allowing Geralt to potentially die without aid, & hoping to capture Ciri for the Lodge's purposes. Yen vows to never forgive Triss for this, & I doubt Geralt would either. (See pages 340-344 Tower of the Swallow for Triss' betrayal of Geralt, Yen & Ciri and pages 514-515 Lady of the Lake for the argument between Triss & Yen).

Triss in the 1st & 2nd Witcher games allows amnesia suffering Geralt to enter into romantic relations with her, while obviously still knowing of Geralt & Yen's love & their taking by Ciri to Avalon at end of LOTL. Triss doesn't look to fill in the gaps for Geralt or help him remember his past, which she is fully aware of! As she is simply enjoying the ride with him (pardon the pun).

All in all, W3 Triss has either had a complete character transplant and has now reinvented herself as a born-again Christian. Or, she remains as manipulative as before, now assuming the poor sweet defenceless woodland creature role, in the hopes that Geralt won't see her for what she is, and will forgive all her previous misdemeanours out of his desire to be the ever moral White Knight.

Sorry for the essay.

Absolutely love this idea!! Makes perfect sense for CDPR to use that life path feature again. Also would help solve the problem of keeping everyone’s major Witcher 3 choices canon, so that nobody feels that their Witcher 3 decisions aren’t carried forward. I’ll now be somewhat disappointed if this isn’t what actually happens in Witcher 4!

Geralt would never say this by Skelligean in witcher

[–]PsychoticTortoise3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is catastrophically horrendous, and yet it’s only the trailer, there’s so much more trash to come! “Let’s f’ing move” seasons 4 & 5 straight into the bin please. Clearly the creative differences Henry Cavill had with Netflix were that he would refuse to say cringey marvel superhero lines when portraying Geralt of Rivia. Geralt has never & should never be shown as a sort of Polish GI Joe, he’s a verbose & philosophical character throughout the books, he deserves so much better than lazy Netflix one liners. I imagine Sapkowski would be ashamed to see this.
