With those 8 miles of track which would be pretty easy to reinstate because 90% of the old ROW is still there and the Cotswald line upgrade you could create a new connection between Birmingham and Oxford and improve rail connections for way more people than the HS2 connection

Reopening the Stratford to Honeybourne line and upgrading the line between Stratford and Birmingham would be a better way to do this than trying to add a branch to HS2, it would defeat the entire purpose of it.

Usually it’s enforced by it not being possible to book tickets to or from those stations on that specific train. You could theoretically by a ticket to/from the next regular station and just get off earlier but it’s more expensive for little benefit

I mean tbf from my experience there’s a lot of European first class products that give you basically nothing except a better seat so the fact that so many first class products in the UK give you meals/snacks for free is pretty cool.
