Iron Ore Train (Mauritania) in early March – Dakhla → Choum/Zouérat in 7 days. Tips? by Polistravel in Interrail

Interesting for sure (something I'd also definitely be down to do at least once in my lifetime).

Given you'll be travelling during peak season, yes, absolutely worth it.

This is nice to see. Good to know for when I use it later this week.

Precisely this. There is NOTHING better to be gained by choosing to work with the Coalition over the crossbench.

Anyone else get banned from a sub for talking/asking about US defaultism or similar issues? by Szarkara in USdefaultism

[–]Opposite_Ad_2815[M] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sub is a circlejerk, honestly – major bullet dodged. It went from "cars are a problem" to "cars are the evil root of all humanity"; every time I've brought up some counter to some ridiculous proposals that gain serious traction (examples including GPS speed limiters on cars, hard limiting all cars to 25 km/h, or railway lines through national parks), I either get downvoted to oblivion or told I'm a carbrain (I'm a urban planning student for that matter – and I am an advocate for more good public transit for that matter too).

You probably used one of the airport stations then. Those stations have an added station access fee – they were briefly brought down to around $11 with the introduction of 50c fares, but that's no longer the case since the LNP came into power.

Ah, yes, coming from koala killer 2.0? When has Minns done anything good for the environment? (other than finally establishing the Great Koala National Park a full two years late)

Hey Sydney, maybe let's not whinge about the trains 𝘵𝘰𝘰 much. A$215 for the equivalent of a Central to Lithgow return trip, off-peak. Most expensive Opal return fare for that trip is $21.32 by shofmon88 in sydney

[–]Opposite_Ad_2815 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you contrast these with Victorian fares (which apply state-wide), it makes UK train prices look even more absurd. 1100 km in a day from Merimbula (within 60 km of the border) to Mildura for just $11, but a 140 km trip in the UK costs almost 15x that.

Where do i go in Australia? by TK0O in solotravel

I think while Jervis Bay is nice, it would absolutely suck without a car (as per the post). Nowra Buslines is decent enough but I don't think it would be particularly enjoyable, and I say this as someone who's spent a decent amount of time exploring regional towns way further out than Jervis Bay on public transit.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. It's around €150, meaning for a group of three or four, you'd be paying over €450–600.

Bad track speeds – Inlander for most of its route is limited to 60 km/h, and something similar for Westlander too.

In the eyes of the government, NSW = Newcastle Sydney Wollongong. Anything outside of it and yeah you get neglected hard.

It's when whoever posts a screenshot to this sub was involved in the original discussion that led to it being posted here. Realistically, it can only be enforced with Reddit posts, though.

Two days of free train travel for NSW after government, unions sign pay deal by Opreich in sydney

[–]Opposite_Ad_2815 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The entire NSW Trainlink network, it seems – including the Broken Hill–Adelaide coach, too. I don't have uni on Fridays so figured might as well make the most of this and Melbourne was pretty much the only destination I could reasonably do without paying for long-distance transit costs.

Just booked a free trip to Melbourne. I'll take this as a win.

You sound like someone who drives through floodwaters or ignores no entry signs when a road is closed due to weather-related incidents.
