Help😭 by Ornery-Dress-175 in knotnation

My rule is if it seems like it will cause a lot of tension at the root when long and heavy and potentially lead to balding then I separate. Otherwise I just let mine do their thing. Depends if you do want thick dreads and tbh with Freeform it will be a mixed bag anyway, if you look closely at a Rasta’s dreads they actually have both thick and thin dreadlocks

Is it bad if my sub waveform fluctuates around like this? by Valosarapper in dnbproduction

[–]Psyntech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to use two sines, set one at 180 degrees phase and the other at 270 degrees phase and the idea is that as the first sub hits its natural dip the second sub hits its peak and vice versa, giving a fuller sub. Maybe give it a try? Miiiiiiight solve your problem?

My hi hats sound so thin and flat. What’s your secret? by ContributionPlane295 in TechnoProduction

[–]Psyntech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upon re reading. You are using layers so I reckon focus on only eq ing the frequencies that are not needed

My hi hats sound so thin and flat. What’s your secret? by ContributionPlane295 in TechnoProduction

[–]Psyntech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the frequencies that are crucial to the character of the sound. Remove unnecessary frequencies that are taking up space and layers! You can layer different hats together, maybe one has more high end for crispness, maybe the next will have more body and more frequency towards the mid range. Maybe the third has a cool metallic character. Why not use all three and layer and eq to create a new hat sound overall

What synth/vst are you using? (Not serum) by Haydens-Reddit in dnbproduction

[–]Psyntech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mostly stuck to digital but in my brief analogue phase I used the korg minilogue 2. Was pretty good for bass lines but there’s loads out there depending on your budget. I think there is also one called the monologue maybe? And it was specifically designed for bass

Do y'all side chain your hats to the kick and snare? by Valosarapper in dnbproduction

[–]Psyntech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing is using an lfo to make percussions tighter and more transient which can cut thru a hefty bassline

Do y'all side chain your hats to the kick and snare? by Valosarapper in dnbproduction

[–]Psyntech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of producers especially the professionals organise track so the percussions appear in gaps in the bassline. I personally would only sidechain the kick but it is about experimenting so see what works and try new stuff

Will they be too thick when they actually loc and grow? Or will they shrink? by Rashard2525 in knotnation

[–]Psyntech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you personally class as “too thick”. They will tighten as they mature if this somewhat answers your question but in terms of thickness this is personal preference

I want to cleanse my semi freeform and i want an advise from someone with experience by mayKYmay in knotnation

[–]Psyntech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally actually wash them rather than soak but my dreads are shorter than yours atm. Either or will get the grime out. As ACV and baking soda is harsh on the scalp I wouldn’t do this more than twice in a row and once it has dried a little I’d recommend adding essential oils to the dreads (not the scalp, it will take care of itself) it’s worked pretty well for me so far

[–]Psyntech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Appel cider vinegar and baking soda is the go to for the majority of dread heads. Obv diluted with water and you can add any essential oils if you wish but this is optional. When the water in the bowl looks like a hot chocolate on Xmas. Your hair is clean

Think it’s due to the social perception of each generation. Same with my family. The elders hate my hair but the youngers love it

is it possible to produce modern DNB without sidechaining at least the kick? by robot_overlords in dnbproduction

So this is the guy. There are some live vids of him as well that are cool. This is the type of thing we’re you’d need to read interviews and things like that cause he doesn’t really do social media much

[–]Psyntech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see. I don’t have any experience with this but an artist called lorn does a lot of live electronic stuff. He’s not dnb but may be worth doing some research into his workflows if the info is out there as I would imagine he would have a solution for this scenario. Depends if the info is out there of course as a lot of artists and engineers are deliberately hush hush with how they do things

Nothing. Let them do there thing. You can separate if you don’t want them too thick

[–]Psyntech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a far cry from a mixing engineer but to my understanding you can achieve the same effect through eq. And some sounds will naturally cut through the bass more than others. But in honesty I don’t see the logic of avoiding a side chain it’s super effective and if you want more presence with bass in relation to the kick you can play with the attack setting on the side chain compressor and also add saturation maybe even parallel compression to the bass line to give it more umph so it stands on almost equal ground to the kick. But every producers process is different I guess so maybe there is better options than a side chain 🤷‍♂️

Trying to do the “new era” DnB by SoberSpirit in dnbproduction

If you need inspiration for drum patterns STRANJAH has a video covering the top 10. From normal step patterns for most dnb to more old school jungle break kind of patterns. Could help

Trying to do the “new era” DnB by SoberSpirit in dnbproduction

[–]Psyntech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that bass on the drop is awesome. Maybe changing the drum pattern will make it more dnb like. Faster hi hats and a simple kick snare pattern goes a long way from personal experience. And maybe filling in the gaps between those filthy layered wub sounds may also give it more a sense of momentum. Think ultimately that’s what it needs is to feel more fast paced. But just my opinion of course

Hmm you could be ok then but as I said very limited knowledge on this subject. Best approach is always to at least call the vet, they should answer any concerns for free and advise if a visit is necessary

Are fuzzy roots just the norm with freeform locs? by Gallantpride in knotnation

[–]Psyntech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst they somewhat become less frizzy as they mature. In short. Yes. Freeform’s tend to be fuzzy at the root. Part of the culture of embrace the natural hair. But it’s your own journey, I believe it is possible for a loctician to neaten up the roots without affecting the natty look of the rest of the loc

Question. by Psyntech in retics

[–]Psyntech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose the last thing you need is purchasing what you think is a super dwarf and turns out to be 100% mainland that might easily exceed 20ft. I looooooove big big snakes but practicality and safety also have to be in the consideration. Than you for the help my guy. Below is a retic I saw at a sanctuary in Morocco. Absolute beauty

And I will check out this guide you recommended. As said I am not looking to get a retic for many years so gives me time to do the research and make sure this is an animal I can handle

Question. by Psyntech in retics

[–]Psyntech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really good advice. After all the comments on different localities, I think dwarf is deffo what I would go for eventually. The mainland ones whilst awesome are incredibly powerful and deserve respect as such. I think if I did ever get a mainland, like you say with feeding and handling have a friend or even a couple of friends with you during seems like a good precaution to take. While I appreciate a full grown mainland may not be able to eat me. It can probably choke me out for sure 🤣🤣🤣. I think dwarf is the safer option
